Get your heart right, or don't carry... If you aren't mentally prepared to take life, don't carry... If you carry, and you're not mentally prepared to do what it takes, you are only bringing another means of your own demise, or the detriment of others... If you're going to carry, make yourself mentally prepared first.

He’s right everything. Get your mind right, understand what you’re signing up for, know what you’re willing to do, and be realistic about your capabilities. A classic example is I know very feminine women - super girly. They want a gun and fast forwarding we go to a Glock 43X for lightweight, small, concealable reasons. But then I give them spray, a good knife, stun gun, expandable baton. They think I’m crazy for carrying at least one extra magazine… we go to the range and after they blow through their 11 rounds they get such a realization they then want a full size handgun and a ton of magazines. Training opens their eyes to the obvious. Then they realize a lot more. I wish I could record their faces lol

Good discussion. I have a lot more respect for someone who’s given serious thought about their ability to use deadly force to defend and decided they couldn’t do it and doesn’t carry than I do for someone who hasn’t and assumes they’ll just rise to the occasion. Carrying a deadly weapon for defense is something you should take seriously and train both mentally and physically to accept whatever consequences.

I agree always been normal to protect but no taking life has not and never will be normal. Did you know that even back in the Civil War, ww1 and 2 we documented cases of what is now known as PTSD for actions done in combat. And I'm sure that it existed long before but without record. Some of the hardest men I've ever known have struggled with PTS and sadly it's claimed the lives of friends. We've normalized not being okay with what you've done being a weakness. Only recently have we finally normalized talking to someone and it being okay that you've had an internal war. We've finally acknowledged as a society that yes taking out people in combat or in a fight is necessary but it's also okay that your heart and brain say hey this isn't normal
