The MOST IMPORTANT Traxxas Slash 4x4 UPGRADE - HD STEEL Driveshafts - Are They As Good As MIP Shafts

In this video I talk about and install some HD Hardened Steel Driveshafts that I purchased on EBay for My Traxxas Slash 4x4 VXL Brushless. Anyone who is familiar with the Traxxas Slash knows that the Stock Driveshafts are probably the biggest weakness of the rig. It’s gotten to the point where I have been breaking driveshafts nearly every time I run my Slash. I do an in-depth install as well as talk about if these driveshafts are as good as the MIP ones for only HALF the PRICE.

They are front and rear specific…I assume you’re referring to the pins on the stub axles? You can see in the photos how the front and rear stub axles are different….unless they accidentally sent you all of the same…you might have put them backwards which is why it wouldn’t fit

There is washer (spacers) that go on the inner axle by wheel bearing as well, just like the outside. There is a total of 2 per wheel on the axle. It's how to fix some wheel play if your missing 1. It will also cause more abuse on the bearings when it has more wheel play. Have a good day, #slash4x4
@RCKnockout
@RCKnockout 3 жыл бұрын
I figured that out after awhile lol 😂. Thanks for the info though. I used one on one side because there was hardly any play with that axle. The other side I did put one on the inner and outer sides of the bearings. You have a good day as well 😉

I never had issues with the plastic shafts unless I was running 3s and pinning the throttle on the landing, as well as hard launches on pavement. I have since upgraded to 3S, and had to upgrade the CV axles because they kept breaking (too much power). I went with the Traxxas Steel Axles. I haven't had any issues with them, and I drive quite a bit and hit some huge gaps at the track.I recommend the Traxxas Steel axles.

On the coil retainer types, cut a piece of shrink tube to put over the coil retainer and shrink it down. It’ll keep the coil and pin in place, and looks clean
@RCKnockout
@RCKnockout 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good idea but I have a feeling it’s still somewhat likely to push through the heat shrink tubing. It’s a lot like the Traxxas upgraded axles. The pins on those wear through the rubber boot and fall out. I’d just be very surprised if that could hold it long term.

I got about 8 sets of them cheap ebay shafts, brand new when I bought my stampede 4x4. I bought a set of Traxxas shafts for both front and rear and haven't looked back. But on my 2wd slash, I put the 4x4 slash plastic drive shafts on it and they hold up great on that truck, but a lot lighter though. My uncle is running the plastick stock shafts on his stampede 4x4 and they've been holding up really good on 3s and he floors it a lot, although he mostly drives in our shops gravel parking lot, so its rare it gets a ton of grip.

How are the driveshafts holding up? I need to get different shafts also. My 2wd plastic drive shafts on a 3s vxl system have held up great for 3 years. Now every other run on my 4x4 I keep breaking them. It must be because of the weight difference between the 2 models.

Yeah the weight combined with the power going to all 4 tires. They have held up well but now that the driveshafts aren’t breaking my wheel hexes are getting destroyed instead. Which is probably a worse issue. I’ve tried loosening the slipper clutch to see if that will help save my wheels.
