The title made me a little skeptical. But this truly was the most interesting Endela review I've ever watched. My grandfather used to grow onions in the alley. A tradition my brother still does. You're absolutely correct about onions being easy to grow. Whilst planting them in the alley, my other brother started chucking little bulbs at him & many of those onions survived.

Well, here is a comparative onion-growing presentation: My grandmother and my father grew their onions from "sets" or tiny bulblets most of the time for yellow (brown) onions, and from "slips" or matchstick size tiny plants sold in bundles of 100 for white onions. However, in order to have onions to store for later use, the ancestors put youngsters (me) to work. I was to dig or lift the entire onion plant from the soil, lay plants out to dry for a few days till tops were browning, then tie the onions into bunches of 5 or 6, leaving enough string to attach to a nail in a basement rafter. The tops were left to dangle as dried wisps. Bulbs were cut from the bunch as needed. If the tops were suitable, I sometimes braided the onions into strands and hung those from the basement rafters. Actually, I suppose, they were joists. But pay no mind. I am Southern, and we digress quite freely. I would think cutting open so much of the flesh of the bulbs as you show would allow much of the remaining exposed flesh to dry out and prevent long storage. Are onions different in the Southern Hemisphere? Or do you pickle your onions, perhaps, in order to preserve them?
@CedricAda
@CedricAda 2 жыл бұрын
These seem to dry and seal quite well at the tops when I season them and when I move them to the cupboard I take them back to almost looking like a store bought. If they don’t last as well i’ll leave it all intact next time. Great to see another fellow onion enthusiast

@@kylemccaffrey3003 Other than the choil, the stretch is much more filling in the hand. Neither are particularly comfortable for any hard or extensive work, but the stretch is definitely better in my hand. They also feel about the same in pocket, so the extra handle width doesn't really come with any downside. My zdp189 stretch 2 is one of my most used knives, while my zdp189 endura could probably pass for new, if that means anything.

I use red (but actually purple) onion for everything now. Doesn't matter what the recipe calls for, I use a red onion. Gets just as sweet when caramelized and isn't as pungent when used raw. Vidalias are good when you can get them but red onions are available year round. Also I wish Spyderco would offer the super pointy tips again on the Endura/Endela/Delica line like they did in previous generations.

I'm been trying to get a K390 one for a while now, but Norwegian retailers only carry the VG-10 ones that's also always out of stock. I probably just gonna order one from Finland since they are a lot cheaper there, but then there is the lovely 25% import tax we got + handling fees. But it still will probably be cheaper than to buy one in Norway (or about the same price). So I just have to bite the apple, since it's more than likely the fastest way to get one. Nothing against VG-10 but sometimes one just want to try something new and I currently don't own anything in K390,so that's another excuse for me to get one 😋

Green onions are my favorite because they're the easiest to grow and use as a seasoning/garnish. Just put them in a cup of water or dirt after you buy em from the store! (Although they must still have the stems attatched)

Sure, white onions are versatile. But can they be used to slice a held sheet of paper?

when properly cured an onion would be able to, if launched with force, be able to punch through a sheet of paper. Alternatively you could stew the paper in a large pot with some diced onion, celery and leek. Make sure the water is salted. Hope this helps

Is it true that serrated onions taste stronger alongside the more fibrous vegetables than plain onions?

Per Gaye et al (1969), the world is just a great big onion. The conclusions drawn in that (non-peer reviewed) thesis are that we should plant love seeds. Evidence from the Magistrates Court suggests this is not a course of action to be followed on allotments.

I learned somethign new, people refer to yellow onions as brown onions. I grow crates of them every year, and shallots, a whole nother review of course, and all my life they've been yellow onions, plus white and red.
