I am from Nepal. I didn't knew that this much calculations is needed to make our flag. We just used to draw some lines forming two triangles and randomly drew the sun and the moon. Thank you sir for making this video. Proud to be Nepali..🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵

+Joost Schenk Another ape ancestor!? For Linnaeus and Darwin's sakes, all humans have ancestors that, of close enough, will be considered apes! (obviously if you go 50 millions or so years in the past our ancestors are not going to look anything line any modern-day ape) What's "another ape ancestor"even supposed to mean? And whatever it is, the answer to your question is most definitely "NO".

Aadarsha Ghatani They probably did. In the same way people meticulously describe borders. It's one of those things because of witch people are like "Okay, let's sit down and describe it in such a way that one could ever misunderstand what we have in mind." Well, as said this approach is usually saved for borders, but with flag design like that people had to be meticulous about it.

The crimson red color represents the bravery(nepalsese known as brave Gorkhalis) and also the color of rhododendron (our national flower) and blue represents the peace ( country of Lord Budha).The sun and the crescent moon(which means our country gonna shine untill the sun and the moon lies) had the human faces which was removed during modernization...😊no doubt the most unique flag and the prettiest too..I have my exams in a week... Wish me luck 🍀

INVENTION may be a wrong word to use. But definitely it is ingenuous. I have read that the flag shape was used for astronomical purposes as well. So cool of Nepalis to keep the ancient astronomy alive through their flag. Kudos!

I am from Nepal . We draw it free hand. I never knew our constitution had a whole article that describes how to draw our national flag. Thank you so much Numberphile. I am amazed to know how mathematical our flag is.

I think that was a bit too easy.... It needed some more steps along with some trig calculations... A 2 inch thick manual would be appropriate.

First thank you numberphile for the wonderful video. Really appreciate the hard civil engineering work you did to showcase how Nepals flag is made. Second, all Nepalese viewers share this thing, especially to 9 -10 graders who need to make nepals flag all the time. At least they will begin to appreciate what it took for the creators.
