Yep, unfortunately a very small proportion of prodigies end up having an exceptional musical career. Past a certain age, most of them disappear from radars. It's sad...

@@MissTwoSetEncyclopedia This s because success in children's competitions depends on accurate following of the set of exact teacher's instructions, so it is like tetris. For being an adult soloist, what is required is to create the music on the spot, be able to sound different each time, depending on the occasion. It is a different set of skills.

I can explain: it is not too hard, but general violin learning in total is hard. Some people have their fingers just running, especially left handed.

I will never forget when I was 17 there was an 8 year old prodigy at my piano recital. I said to my mom that I wished I could play that well when I was 8 and she responded “can you even play that well now?”

That's the only video I could find of him. I googled his name and he lives in China, which would explain why he isn't on KZfaq. But I saw that he has been selected to participate in the next edition of the Grumiaux Violin Competition (who takes place in Belgium), so hopefully we'll know more about this young man in a couple of months.

I've started practicing daily again like I did when I was a music minor many years ago. Thankfully I got into med school and have since finished and gone through residency and fellowship. I was talking with one of my Neurology colleagues who played piano and was also a music minor and we are going to get back to our highest levels and try to push beyond. You guys and this kid inspire me to stretch my limitations further and go outside my comfort zone. Maybe I'll even find a teacher and see if they can help.

Yes, it's about practice but about practising smart, not hard. Finding out what you are doing wrong and correcting it, being efficient and not repeating over and over your mistakes. Those who become child "prodigies" are the kids who have good teachers and good intuition, no miracles here. You can advance faster if you evaluate constantly what you are doing right and what wrong and correcting it.

Thank you! It does not include quantity, just quality! My teacher always gives me critical tips and tells me that I should practice in an efficient and technical way, not for many hours. I get more distinctions in Rcm and more success this way.

Hey Twoset! I've seen the video of you guys talking about your subreddit, lingling40hrs,has been taken. I know that now the subreddit isn't technically yours, but the people in the reddit are still Twoset fans. I know someone that is a really good cello player. He's only 8 and he has won the concerto competition twice already in his youth orchestra. His playing has a level of maturity to it that is amazing. He is already playing a level 9 concerto. But he chooses not to post himself on social media. So i wonder, how many "prodigys" are out there.

There are some :) I am not a progidy, but I played this caprice at 11 y old, original bowing, live television recording. Prodigies are people whose parents like to show them everywhere and put into every competition. My parents are not like that.

Hi Brett, it is getting too expensive in Toronto for my friends son to continue at the Conservatory of music. He is 15 Japanese and speaks fluently. Is it a good idea to find a place in Japan to continue his violin? Thank you so much. You really have changed the classical terrain.

I feel like some pieces are so hard and just hard, like listening you can be like ‘Wow that’s awesome cuz it’s hard’ but it’s not as pleasing to the ear, like I feel like it would sound nicer a bit slower so you can actually hear what’s being played, like it’s music, no matter the difficulty it should still sound pleasing right?

That kid looks like he's watched ALL of Maxim Vengerov's masterclasses where he teaches that incredible bullwhip bowing technique. It looks very similar, with the right arm so relaxed and the hand somehow soft, but heavy.

Only people with certain right hand placement can play this caprice, you are right, it is Vengerov's hold. I play it , too, you need the hand not to reply on the first finger

O, cute child! How calm and collected he is! Fascinating and good to remember and maybe copy that kids often not know when something is difficult or something is ImporTant or SerioUs, especially if noone told them, intentionally or unintentionally... just going with the flow, playing this and that haha This piece, never seen it, wavy Paganini, associate him with waves for some reason, trrrm up trrmm down, a little trr-trr-trrm on the spot haha all around could drown you or could make you surf, ride the highest up towards the sky.

I dedicated like a month of my life trying to incorporate the original bowing into pag 5. I kinda started getting it at around the 3 week mark but ended up shelving it so I could focus on an audition. It is ferociously tricky. Even without that ridiculous bowing.
