In this episode of TFBTV, ‪@JamesReeves‬ is looking at one of the most underrated SMGs ever, the Beretta MX4 Storm. Like the more tactical version of the Beretta CX4 Storm, the MX4 is light, short, easy to handle, and features a blistering 950rpm rate of fire. This is a massively underrated and reasonably priced SMG. Unfortunately, it's not available in the USA, but it's still a fun watch, we promise.

James, the CX4 is not only the most underrated SMG of all time, but it was featured on the most underrated sci-fi show of all time…Battlestar Galactica. The CX4 was featured prominently in the remake series starring the legendary Edward James Olmos and Katee Sackhoff BEFORE she was known as Bo Katan. It is for this reason, that the CX4 has never left my collection…if Chat GPT ever decides to continue the cycle of extinction at the hands of merciless Centurions…my CX4 will be ready to kick some Cylon ass. I’m afraid I’ll have to revoke your nerd card due to this oversight.

I've shot a 16" barrel version, and it is a fun little pcc to shoot. My Wife also enjoyed it a lot. It has a very intuitive control layout. Wish Beretta would update the design with a folding stock and mlok rails, I think that's all it really needs to be a serious competitor in the pcc market

If you think about it, having the magazine in the pistol grip rather than in front of the trigger guard makes the overall length about 4 inches or more shorter, so it's like running an AR with a 10-12 inch barrel minus the tax stamp and with more velocity, and no need to worry about a pistol brace

The most underrated PCC is the one that is still sitting on Beretta’s design board. It’s the new and improved CX4. It’s the one with the threaded barrel with an adjustable gas block and upgraded trigger. It should also come with the ability to swap out the 16 inch threaded barrel with a smaller SBR barrel in the event you wanted to go in that direction. The biggest problem with the CX4 Storm is that it is a Good firearm. Good is always the enemy of better. It’s time for Beretta to put their best foot forward and knock all our socks off.

I've owned a CX4 Storm in .40 S&W for twelve years. Being a lefty, it was the first easily converted lefty gun I was able to afford back in 2011. Ejection, mag release, charging handle, and safety can all be swapped over in minutes. The tear down is just as simple as this video shows, making maintaining and cleaning a breeze. Even in .40cal, the recoil is manageable and it's easy to shoot respectably tight groups out to 50 yards. It's not going to have the range of a rifle-caliber carbine, but with the 16 inch barrel, it's got more stopping power and range than a comparable pistol. Especially if your dad has a reloading rig in the basement and you can custom load it with slower burning powder to maximize muzzle velocity and energy. I would love the chance to fire the MX4 variant.

Own a Cx4 Storm myself, and while it does have it's issues (all of which being not up to date features (cough cough Glock)) I think it's my only gun that hasn't had a malfunction, it may have had one but honestly I don't remember at all, and when I started out shooting i would use steel case since i was too young for a handgun. It's a little poppy, and the trigger isn't ideal, but otherwise, it's an easy gun to use, and is both reliable and seemingly pretty rugged. Other than the lack of ability for me to make it more compact or foldable, as well as the trigger, there isn't much I would change about it.

I was looking at a CX4 because it's a good pick for a ban state. Fixed stock, featureless barrel, preban mags exist. I ended up going with one of the 16" barrel HK94 clones from PTR with the intent to SBR it later. Had my budget been tighter, I think I would have been totally happy with the CX4. The manual of arms is absolutely better. I also really like the magwell pistol grip arrangement in a PCC because of the semi-bullpup effect you get on overall length. If you're going to get a carbine in 9mm, it needs to offer something over a small AR and that compact package goes a long way in that regard. The same can be said about the Hi-Point carbine, Sub-2000, or the Ruger LC. Compare those to a 16" barrel Ruger PC9 that has the same overall length as an AR -- what's the point? The straight blowback isn't that much lighter recoiling and it's the size of something you can run a rifle cartridge in.

I have a CX4 and a 96 (of course both in 40). Some may not agree, but having the pistol grip mag feed speeds up reloading due to proprioception. In addition, having a similar manual of arms and the same mags make transition during failure or need to top off rifle or pistol easier since all take the same mags. I am also right handed and left eye dominant. The CX4 allows me to set it up to eject left and charge right. I have shot a lot of semi versions of SBRs/PCCs/PDWs and the CX4, for pistol caliber and pistol pairing, gives you the most speed and flexibility for CQB. I have had no reliability issues either.

@@920utdoors9 Again, I'm referring to a pistol/rifle pair that uses the same ammo/magazines and of which the pistol you can holster (AKA a sidearm). I guess with that criteria (same mags and ammo) and no requirements for reliability, you could pair a Glock 17 with a KelTec Sub2000. And with any rifle calibers you won't have the same advantage of proprioception.

@@datpolakmike perhaps you don't understand, it's not about the length alone it's about the cyclic rate. One of the things that affects the cyclic rate is the weight of the bolt another thing is the length of travel. By making the bolt out of tungsten you can both increase the weight and also decrease the length of the air by increasing the length of travel both of which separately would reduce and together have a synergistic further reducing it.

@@theodoreheintz7891 yeah no, i got that part. The point still remains. It's too exotic of a material relative to what you're getting out of it. Economically it's just not a worthwhile trade off.

@@datpolakmike I'll just have to disagree then. By-the-way another benefit is that if they reduce the length of the bolt enough it might be possible to reduce or in some cases eliminate the force of impact of the bolt bottoming out at the rear of the receiver and thereby dramatically improve control.

My favourite underrated and often forgotten subgun is the Steyr MPI 69. A few years ago I got the chance to visit a licensed collector here in Austria who has every gun Steyr ever made and we got to shoot a few nice of the items he had in his collection. I got three mags on the MPI and it was surprisingly comfortable to shoot. And with charging handle also doubling as the sling connector allowed to just charge it by quickly pushing it forward while the sling was looped around my shoulder, which (in my opinion) seems like a nice feature to have, as it makes it easier to use the gun onehanded in the case that your other hand is injured or preoccupied with lighting a cigarette, holding a beer or whatever else the average Austrian service member might need use his left hand for.

@@Swishersweetcigarilo unfortunately the 45 caliber Carbine CX4 takes a different magazine than the PX4 .45 ACP pistol. I found out the hard way after I bought both. I’ve asked Beretta why did they make interchangeable magazines in 9mm but Not in 45 caliber, but nobody at Beretta new the reason for this problem. Do any of you guys know why ?
@aaronfarnsworth7653
@aaronfarnsworth7653 Жыл бұрын
@@Swishersweetcigarilo They did make the carbine in .45 acp. But they've been discontinued for a long time now. They could easily make a pistol version (PCX4?) instead of an sbr. Easier to import and sell while finally getting past that thumbhole stock. Then if the owners want to sbr, they can go through the paperwork and install the thumbhole stock or hopefully the aftermarket would create a folding or collapsing solution. They've been around for decades. It's about time they had an evolution. A good evolution would be to incorporate the easy switch ejection from the ARX. Along with an ambidextrous or switchable (without disassembly) charging handle. Speaking of the ARX, Hey Beretta, the quick change barrel and operating system were good. Build upon that. Change it to a "push button" or cross bolt style operation for ejection selection instead of requiring a tool or bullet tip. Do what you can to make it less bulky in appearance and handling. Please make a larger charging handle as well. You have the pieces and the ability to make a better firearm than what the Italian military asked of you. I await the day you finally do so.

I have the PX4 Storm and the CX4 Storm in 9mm. I bought them both over 10 years ago. I recently saw a CX4 Storm at Sportsmans Warehouse listed for $599.00. That is $200.00 less than I paid 10 years ago. The price on the PX4 Storm is also the same or less then I paid 10 years ago as well. I added a Streamlight. Laser/Light combo to improve those Security Tours after dark. Both have Burris or Bushnell Red Dots and are accurate and pleasant to shoot. The Fake Can adds to the appearance but I am looking for a Threaded Barrel to help install the 9mm suppressor so I can retie the Fake Can.

I've had 2 different CX4s and they were the best PCC for USPSA the early 2000s IMO. That said, the trigger group is 100% polymer and easily the worst trigger I've ever felt. The guide rod that the mainspring runs on is also polymer and can easily be snapped in half if you reassemble the upper and lower too causally like the guy in the clip almost did. That brings me to my point. Sierra Papa. Back in the early 2000s on the Beretta Forums I met a guy who called himself Sierra Papa and I was one of the early adopters of his incredibly well designed and perfectly built all-metal trigger groups. After that he made machined metal guide rods as well as greatly improved delrin buffer pads. I'm not sure where he is now but I hope that he became the Beretta superstar that his skill merited. Hell, hopefully Beretta bought him out and worked his improvements into the CX4 and MX4. If you're out there Sierra Papa, tip of the hat my friend.

The wrap around bolt yoinks the gun forward and back on target, something that has given them a "bad" reputation for "weird" recoil... amongst people who haven't shot one standing unsupported at a 50+ yard target rapid fire. Seeing how controllable it is in full auto just drives home how excellently engineered of a system is inside this undersupported rifle.
