Yeah, you'll need very specialized equipment and skills to build something like this. I'm fortunate enough to have purchased a soldering station and hot air station combo, but I don't have a spot welder. Soldering Li-Ion cells is out of the question, that's way too risky. There's a plastic separator disc that could melt and cause a short circuit. The heat will also damage the battery. One of those LiPo spot welders is exactly what would do the trick, but they are kinda expensive. Compared to a proper spot welder though, one of those wouldn't even make up a quarter of the price.
@Infection3d

🤣🤣 it took 18 whole mins? I wasn't even going to try from the very start. Just wanted a chance to see the insides before looking at how to buy the finished product.

Actually soldering li ion cells has been pretty much well documented in solar off grid, not ideal, but plenty well done enough to be safe.

@@PunakiviAddikti I bought my spot welder from Banggood for $15 and run it off an old car battery, until I built my 12v 3s LiIon pack to run it. But it's been th best $15 I spent all year. I love making battery packs for various applications

A commercial version is worth making simply because no other manufacturers are making a power bank with expansions, wireless charging, USB-C power delivery and RGB lighting in one package. It's unique and definitely what many people are looking for. One thing worth mentioning: always use redundant ground connections! By making ground connections by screws there is still a small chance of the connection failing. It could be dirt, oxidation or corrosion. Always have redundant grounds.

This is seriously a brilliant design and especially with the module system which have been long since we seen anything modular. Instead of making thing smaller and smaller by sacrificing feature and making it inferior, manufacturer should focus more on feature and specs. When I reached the 9min mark. I realized that I can't even imagine making this myself. The reason is that I don't even have a 3D printer leave alone that Spot welder yada-yada 😂. I have a mere soldering iron(Actually I have 2 good quality ones😅, I know it's not a station) and can source the modules from aliexpress. But, then this guy took that option up the notch by including a custom PCB 🤷‍♂️. And that's when I realized that it's fruitless to continue to watch this video for education purpose. I just saw this for the amazement of making something like this.

Some suggestions: Use a dedicated pd/qc charge and chip with built in charge/discharge. If not use pwn to generate the analog reference for the feedback of the DC DC converter. Try to use the ADC channel of the atmega itself. Use as more as possible chips via the same protocol bus to simplify the design. And use an ldo to power the Arduino an DC DC converter is just overkill and have relatively hi quiescent current. You're using cells in series, your bms does not provide a balance. Over time the pack will go into an unbalance state. The cheapest way to balance it back is using the eta3000 chip. There are a lot of board that uses that chip. The mechanical design is quite good. What I would change for sure: Use a proper battery connector (like the ones used on notebooks where GND is conected first, don't use the relay. If you design a proper protection circuit you don't need the fuse. Anyway, take a look to the BQ40Z50-R2 (battery gauge and balancing) and the bq25792 (usb PD, QC battery charger and PD OTG); IP6518C for QC3.0 and PD up to 20V@2.3A. With this configuration you can create a 4S2P pack with huge capabilities, that BMS have 4 temp sensor input, i2c bus, the charger can charge up to 60W using USB PD and also have two additional power inputs. the same chip can also do USB Pd output on the same USB input port.
