This story is from Brad Lackey's Motocross File which was the first episode of the highly acclaimed series. It originally aired in November of 2005. Brad Lackey was the very first interview for the series promo in 2003.
This story was taken from the show and highlights Brad's final run for the championship and success in August of 1982 against Belgian, Andre Vromans. The strategy for Brad to win against a Belgian on their home turf is something they make movies about. Amazing research from his crew and confidence in Brad's ability that day.

Brad made us all proud to be Americans that season. He persevered through some very hard times in his career and never gave up. You could make a movie out of his career.

Thanks again to motocross vault, this guy I heard of and knew of his quest for holy grail of I think everyone in America new Lackey, and USA MX riders and fans quietly knew Brad was gonna win the world championship,My Motocross Action Magazine kept aware, but now I just learn a knew twist,a fan clubbed another 500 cc contender and broke his,arm Noyce was champion,no?That's crazy what Brad had to pull off in those last laps to get by the fans,I'd heard they hold hands across the track to block competition's way,I sort of believed it but,now it must be true, whoa that insane when your going 70mph plus...holy strombolly..nice job Brad, the other thing I didn't know was the suspension deal, more important than anything the forks and shock don't work absolutely perfect,no traction and you won't last 10 minutes let alone 40 minutes...I would have told them to kiss this too...or bite this...congratulations from America, brad and thank you.

Good shit ! Man those were great days, all the bikes looked different and were. The Suzuki’s were sketchy at best, some guys liked em, they always tried to hurt me.

I still loved Suzuki, back then and now! Brad having Simon forks didn't affect Suzuki sales because of Simon's fork negatively. If anything, he helped the sales. We all liked the trick bikes, even if we didn't have the ability to buy some of the parts!! If they cut his pay, he was screwed in my opinion!!

Had Alabama racer and Maico factory rider Furman Gray not had a career ending wreck in 1979 at the Winter Fl. AMA's, it would have been a different ball game. A younger Furman Gray would have been in his prime then. Furman's first PRO race in 1975 Anaheim Stadium-cross 500cc class, Furman had just turned 16.

+Tide12NC - Perhaps but GP racing is much different than racing Nationals. Ask Ryan Villopoto. I certainly wish Furman had not been injured. It's a dangerous sport as we all know. Even when you are at the top of the heap, strange things happen quickly sometimes. (David Bailey, an outstanding multi-class National champ.)

+Racer very true statement, I agree 100%. Furman was my moms brother, all the tapes, stories and what little I can remember shows me how close he was. So many like him had the speed and skill, but not the lucky break. Kind of like Canard of today. Many would have long walked away from it. He's a special guy.

david bailey never would have made it on the world scene because he was arrogant self centered and overall just the biggest asshole ever to disgrace the sport. He also did not like black people. At Carlsbad after winning both motos a blackman approached him offering to shake his hand ....he wouldn't just turned away. Now that's what I call karma at work, there will be no more riding for him. Unless the Acme wheelchair co. gives him a factory sponsorship. fuckin factory wheelchair magnesium wheels, inkinel spokes, remote colostomy reservoir nitrogen cooled finned, lightweight aluminum frame heli-arced, gatorskinned tires, fuckin Kevlar bulletproof seat, remote oxygen resrvouirs with aircraft braided line pumped directly into his helmet should he become winded. not to mention contingencies from phizer labs, depends, Johnson and johnsons Your fuckin A right....visualize it.

You sure about that? Bailey always came off as being soft spoken. But then no one ever knows the true nature of someone until you get close to them. Which is why I never glorify people or use the word "hero." The US military and DHS better known as the Dept of Homeland propaganda are corrupt af. 9/11 was an inside job.

Yeah, bottom line was they Vroohmans was getting works support, and Brad got ooh gots as we say in Italian, shit ...you woulda thought the factory,Suzuki, would give they right arm to have 500 world championship bragging rights, they don't do that any more, pretty sure...safe to say Honda would have done that, not from what I have seen in twenty-five years I've been around pro motocross?Brad was in position to win title, dah.no brainer.
