I remember back in 77 and 78, if the trans Ama in St Peters Missouri at cycle World, all these guys were there, my eyes are always on Marty Smith cuz I really like the Hondas back then, I think his bike was a RC 250.... Watching all those guys jump that long straightaway jump, it look like all those guys must have flown 100 ft. Wish I had taken pictures

The last day i rode really fast on a motocross track was on Martys track in Mesa, Arizona.October ,2010..I wadded up really hard, shattering my left leg and ankle. I came to with Marty standing over me....Thru all the hospitals and surgeries, Marty would call to see how i was doing. It was my fourth Marty Class, he was truly my friend. My hero, my friend. My heart still hurts.

I remember racing at Irwindale CMC Night Motocross, Southern California, during 1976-77. Motocrossers were talking about this guy up north called "Magoo." You could say that Magoo was already a legend, before he became a legend. R.I.P. Danny Chandler.

I see why Honda moved the kickstarter to the right side. 1. It sucks, 2. You could bump it in gear when starting. 😳😳

I'm now age 65, and one who idealized Marty Smith during my high school years from NorCal. I viewed Marty Smith as the Rock Star of Motocross and idealized Marty Smith. Back then in the mid 70's I made a Marty Smith scrapbook from the motocross magazine pages which I still hold today. Currently <5/16/24>, I just found out about this devastating news. I'm saddened to know that Marty Smith is no longer with us, but my memories of Marty Smith will always live on in my life. This video was very insightful. I too would like to send my sincere condolence to the families, and thank them for sharing this video.

Back when MX was held on MX tracks and went real fast on wrenched bikes with welded frames and clapped out shocks. They say theres no sence living in the past ,I kinda disagree.

I still loved Suzuki, back then and now! Brad having Simon forks didn't affect Suzuki sales because of Simon's fork negatively. If anything, he helped the sales. We all liked the trick bikes, even if we didn't have the ability to buy some of the parts!! If they cut his pay, he was screwed in my opinion!!

thats a real motocross natural Terran track, not the custom made roller coaster slick smooth tracks we have today that i never bother watching , the 70s and 80s had the largest biggest crowds at MX events, now its just crap big jumps, roller coaster style tracks, best track was namuar mx gp track through a Forrest , it was awesome

I had the great pleasure to know this man, and hear these stories and many others in person. They are almost verbatim here. Also know Molly slightly, but worked for a few years with his ... wife?... girlfriend?... can't remember which - Irma.

Back in 72 and 73, the first Cycle Sport on Marty Smith, I wore that issue out! That was a tragedy but there's a silver lining, Marty and his wife left a big F Legacy!

Very smart to use products right off the shelf that ALL teams have access to, but not smart enough to use them. I could only guess that the other race teams that weren’t smart enough to use the “Hooker” went crying to the AMA about an unfair advantage.

Pacific Jawa. I still have a couple of match books from there. One birthday I got one of their beautiful gas tanks that was shaped like the early red tanks with knee indentations & the swoopy CZ emblems. Coolest tank ever.
