Catharina Moh has been to Bolivia to meet people living on what's known as the rich mountain - a silver mine that's home to some of the country's most vulnerable. Bolivia's socialist president Evo Morales is hoping for re-election for a historic third term.
He is the country's first indigenous leader, and has pledged to return more of the nation's wealth to the people, and help Bolivia's poorest.

@@juliobenavides241 Evo's Spanish often sounds mumbled and sloppy to me as an American. Is this because he is Indigenous? Most Bolivians speak a very pure Spanish that is very easy for me to understand, but not Evo. He almost sounds Mexican to me at times. I mostly agree with you because I think he is narcissistic, stubborn, and divisive.

Thank you for choosing to take the time and funds to report a story in Bolivia. As you've probably noticed, our country is so underdeveloped that it hardly ever gets much representation in online mainstream media, so it's really helpful to at least get some stories out there to the general public's eye. Maybe with time we can hope for a brighter future in our country's development, but for now all we can ask for is improving awareness.

how i miss my country...but there are two sides to every story... bolivia throughout its existence has struggled with political corruption, falsely appointed dictators and huge scandals..once the richest country due to its natural resources is now the poorest in south america...the struggle between the classes of the people has left the country divided for years..evo morales has supported the poor farmers, which is good, but has neglected the poor people from the oriental side of bolivia which further divided the already existing struggle..we are far from reaching a solution, one can only hope.

Thank you for the information. The Spanish started this. Like what usually happens when they come around, in Potosi alone, over nine million Africans and indigenous Bolivians (slaves) died in these mines over three centuries. Socialism had nothing to do with it; it was the European. I guess that's their way of expressing gratitude for Bolivia sharing the potato. The Spanish did the same thing in Mexican mines, killing millions.

Can you imagine? This is double standard christianity, which The Lord hates. Lack of faith in God is a sin too. You don't believe the creator of those minerals to protect you down there, but can only protect you up there. Let's not put God in a box.We should keep our faith in him strongly. Yes it is true that the devil controls those things down there ,and he's going to fight you but ,yes he's always in costant fight with the children of God but,Jesus said with faith as little as the mustard seed you can say to this mountain move and it will move. Faith abandoned or neglected is fear tolerated as said by Jesse Duplantis. Faith is the thing.

Christiana Kwofie I think they’ve got bigger concerns than whether they’re sinners or not, or where a god may or may not protect them. Working in this mountain is a hell, and they place their faith in whatever gets them through the day. Judge not.

I am Canadian and have lots of south American friends who say that Canadian mining companies are taking advantage of them. If this is what the mines looked like before we rolled in and started modernizing the processes, then well I am glad that we are investing in mines there. If the mineral resources is rich enough for these fine people to make a living there then just imaginge the kind of prosperity that can be realized if machinery was brought in to do this work and strict saftey laws. The miners would be more healthy, the mines would be more safe, minerals can be processed more effectively and with such profits, even environmental pollution can be paid for by the mine.

There needs to stronger regulation when it comes to child labor along with better access to education for these children and increased working conditions for the miners! Even a mask or lights or other safety equipment could help. Insane how basic safety equipment is not even utilized to aid the situation there. I hope things improve for everyone there and that no child ever has to work in the mines again!
