This was another fascinating chapter! Edwina really does seem like she was a trainwreck. I mean, how does one FORGET where you have left your children??! I'm beginning to wonder if one of her "gynecological issues" was actually either a full hysterectomy or at the very least had her tubes tied. Because surely, you can't continue to have so much unprotected $ex (presumably...it was the 20s and 30s after all) with so many partners and not have a high risk of becoming pregnant. Given that she obviously seemed uninterested in anything to do with motherhood I think she took care of the matter, allowing herself absolute freedom from nasty consequences to continue her hedonistic lifestyle. Mother of the Year she was NOT. Would love you to cover other mediums on this channel Cheere...I really enjoyed your take on the whole Baby Reindeer phenomenon. After reading about Louis & Edwina, Harry & Meghan, and David & Wallis, one get impression that all royals lives hedonistic life but Princess Alice was very different from all of them. She lead life of duty and service. She is my favorite royal and I think if any royal who was more remarkable than Queen then it was Princess Alice. She had tragica life but she never complained and held her head high and dedicated her life in to service of others. Her story is very tragic and it's also give insight in to prince philip's tragic childhood

Saying that Edwina had wanderlust is a huge understatement - LOL! Thank goodness Dickie was such a nurturing father, but I'm sure with his naval career, nannies were left to raise his children the majority of the time. I was surprised to hear the author mention the custody trial of Gloria Vanderbilt, possibly only for historical reference, because it did not seem to have anything to do directly with the lives of Dickie and Edwina. Cheere, I enjoyed your review of Baby Reindeer, and I would definitely be interested in any other movie or television documentaries you may be considering reviewing. I've grown weary of Harry and his 43% Nigerian wife (LOL!), but sadly, it seems like dysfunctional and polarizing individuals will always attract attention and viewers. Robeson (1898 - 1976) was not only a fantastic singer and actor, well educated (Degrees from: Rutgers, Columbia, London University) as well as being a genuine humanitarian; *he was a dyed in the wool Communist!* (from a young age). Although both International Communism and National Socialism (Nazism) are creatures of the political Left. At the time, Nazism was viewed as less dangerous than Communism. Of course this was before WW2. (imo: both are equally abhorrent) Regarding the "Penthouse:" Children and grandchildren of the Gilded Age's Robber Barons liked to live large. Edwina was no exception. (Their incomes were the equivalent of a billionaire's nowadays) EDIT TO ADD: I agree with you about changes to your channel's content. The hardest thing about biographies of the BRF is keeping track of the family links. Wikipedia articles can be helpful to remember who is who. For Example: Louis Mountbatten's parents and siblings were: FATHER: " *Louis Alexander Mountbatten, 1st Marquess * *of Milford Haven* (1854 - 1921) Formerly Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg [until 1917], was a British naval officer and German prince [from a morganic family line] related by marriage to the British royal family. She married one of the younger sons of the King of Greece and Denmark of the royal house of Glücksburg. They had 4 daughters before WW1. Their only son, Philip (1921--2021) was born after WW1. Her son became Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh when he married Princess Elizabeth of Windsor, later known as Queen Elizabeth II of the UK. Before his marriage Philip had to give up his family name (He adopted the name Mountbatten in 1947) as well his royal style of HRH of Greece and Denmark when he married Elizabeth. [Law = No foreign titles] He had been given the title of Duke of Edinburgh, by his future father-in-law (i.e. George VI) hours before his marriage to Princess Elizabeth of the UK, the Princess of Wales. After he had been married to Elizabeth II and after their first child, Charles [later Charles III], was born; Philip was crowned a prince of the UK by his wife and received the style of H.R.H. (His Royal Highness) of the UK In other words: Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh *(2) Louise Alexandra Marie Irene Mountbatten* (born Princess Louise of Battenberg 1889 - 1965) was Queen of Sweden (r.1950 --1965)as the wife of King Gustaf VI Adolf. "Born a princess of the German House of Battenberg, Louise was closely related to the ruling families of Britain as a great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria and of Russia as a niece of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia, wife of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. *She was also an older sister to Lord Louis Mountbatten,1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma. By all accounts, Louise was an excellent step-mother to his children. For both Louise and Gustaf it was a middle-aged marriage of mature love and deep respect. *(3) Captain* [Royal Navy] *George Louis Victor Henry* *Serge Mountbatten, 2nd Marquess of Milford Haven* (1892--1938) Born Prince George of Battenberg, styled Earl of Medina between 1917 and 1921, was a Royal Navy officer and the elder son of Louis Mountbatten, 1st Marquess of Milford Haven (Prince Louis of Battenberg), and Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine. Cheere I nominate "A Woman of No Importance" a biography of Virgina Hall, American (Baltimore born) + arguably the most effective spy of WWII. Just saw the recap of her life on KZfaq + the comments RAVE about the book. She was was an unambiguous WWII hero + also paved the way for women in the State Department. After all this strange behavior, a breath of fresh air.

Dickie knew he was trapped with Edwina. Fortunately, aside from interfering with his ocassional paramours + getting herself into legal trouble, she largely left him to his own devices. (Thank goodness.)

50:29 “Sins of our Mother” is a Netflix documentary about the Lori Vallow-Chad Daybell case. I’ve been watching the Chad Daybell trial and it is unbelievable. I would love to hear your take on that one. TBH I don’t care to hear more about the Harkles saga.

Even though Mountbatten worked hard a good military wife can and does help a military office move up the ladder if promotion. One that's a discraced, missing, or a bad hostess/socialite can stunt a career.

Simple: she was never named in a lawsuit as the co-respondent in a divorce suit involving Hutch.

The Royal family really disapproved of divorce and divorce lawsuits especially. (Remember their hatred of the DOW.) Mountbatten needed the Royal Family on his side for his career.

I read an article years ago that Dickie was not very good at being intimate with women.

The stories imply he preferred small boys. Perhaps that will emerge later on in the book or will it be a whitewash biography.

Robeson’s political views were not popular with the ‘upper’ classes. He was, however brilliantly gifted in many areas from sport to intellectual activities as well as having a wonderful voice. Politically not so ‘safe’ and probably beyond the pale for most of her society and family friends.

I would really like to see you mix it up with reviews of shows. As for this book, I had a hard time slogging through it. Not because of the actual material but because of the behavior. I have found that this time period is just so bizarre in many ways. The societal moraes and dissatisfaction reminds me of current themes though, so alot to learn.
