I'm with Johnny Thunders on this one: "It's just rock'n'roll." I'm not a believer in the idea of "real punk" for this very reason, the only name you need is "Rock'n'roll", but also the Sex Pistols were an update of The Rolling Stones and The Faces. The Ramones were just playing a faster version of the early Elvis and Chuck Berry, doo-wop, etc. I even think Joey Ramone started to sound a bit like Elvis nearer the end. Even DKs were mixing rockabilly, surf, 60's psychedelia & film scores.
