The thing I've learned about Rob Zombie is. He does not care. Not that he doesn't care about what he's making, no. He shows he is passionate about his projects. But he doesn't care if its successful or not. He doesn't care if its hated or loved. He just makes what he wants how he wants it.

The thing about the show was that the joke was (at least when it began) that they're an almost perfect recreation of a stereotypical suburban family that JUST SO HAPPENED to be monsters (mostly) . Fun Fact: Rob Zombie shot the film with a heightened color scheme. "I noticed when the actors were in their makeup and they were just walking around, getting lunch or whatever, they looked like cartoon characters come to life. They were just so insanely colorful. I had to light the movie in the same fashion. It really seemed at all times like a live action cartoon, which was really exciting."

Another cool fact about this interesting movie: The character of Zombo on the TV program Herman was watching was featured in the original series. Eddie idolized Zombo and won a contest that allowed him to visit the set of the show. He became very upset when he discovered Zombo was just an actor in make-up. And, in the fashion of 1950s-60s TV. To be fair to Universal 1440, their Chucky movies are actually legitimately good. Especially since they were written and directed by the original series creator, Don Mancini AND did a fair deal of interesting things with the series. Hell, their success even helped lead to the Chucky TV series on Syfy AND USA.

@Gavin Cox I'd put it second best (A-) of the entire series. Only Bride (A-) is better, overall. Jennifer Tilly's first outing as Tiffany was just...perfect, so much so that it overwrites how much the teen lovers subplot...kind of bites.

Executive Meddling: Universal wouldn't let the movie be Deliberately Monochrome to match the look of the original TV series - so other than the short black and white sequences he was allowed, Rob Zombie went for "the opposite of black and white" by using bright, oversaturated colors. While it didn't affect the direction of the film as much, Grandpa/The Count also couldn't be shown smoking a cigar as he often does in the original series.

I love Chucky, but sinking millions of dollars to make another theatrical release, when Seed of Chucky saw less of a return than Bride, and the whole series attracting fewer and fewer people was just not a sound investment. Bride was the biggest uptick, doubling 3's return, but it just wasn't going to be good for a big studio demanding big money and hoping to make big returns. It's a niche audience, which is typically better served by straight-to-video anyway.

I grew up watching the Munsters with my grandparents in reruns. This was a wonderful, mostly faithful adaptation of the original show, and I enjoyed how carefully the actors studied and reproduced the original characters mannerisms and voices. Did you know that Dragula was the name of the race car in the movie where they inherit a castle in Britain, so I think that Rob Zombie made the movie after his song Return of Dragula as he's most likely a Munsters fan because of the two Munsters connections, and Eddie Munster's actor is one of the morticians

When it comes to Rob Zombie's The Munsters, I enjoyed everything that didn't take place in Transylvania(France, loved the airplane part and everything in Mockingbird Heights). the reactions of normal people have seeing them is a huge part of the Munsters, which is something this film needed. honestly I'll give a Rob Zombie directed sequel a chance if someone else writes it or helps RZ write it. it was OK compared to something like Hocus Pocus2.

To me, the central conceit of the Addams Family is: "We're Normal, just like you." despite their weirdness. The Munsters is more: "We're Normal, what's wrong with you?" One is more about embracing the strangeness, while the other places it on a podium. It's why I prefer the Addams.

I've been a fan of The Munsters since the 60s, and I have nothing but praise for what Rob created. It is a beautiful tribute to the original series, the colour scheme is gorgeous, the actors all do a great job, and the story, while being a little weak in places, captures the spirit of the original series nicely. I have NO idea where all the negative feelings about this film are coming from. Thank you Rob for a fantastic gift to Munsters fans!

Also, while I seriously doubt this is the last time we'll ever see The Munsters on screen, nowadays, there are nowhere near as popular as The Addams family and with the animated films and also the Wednesday streaming series, that franchise in particular is getting a huge boost. Since the original run of the show, The Munsters has not had such a good track record. And unfortunately, I feel like this movie is going to be a gigantic setback for the property.

The Addams Family was all about black humor presented in a light horror version of the nuclear family. The Munsters is the parody of that done for pure schlocky laughs. The Addams Family was tons funnier - especially the movies with Raul Julia, but the Munsters, for all their corny humor and typical sitcom type hijinks, actually was pretty heartwarming. They just really liked each other and really had a lot of fun going through all their adventures - like kids with their new toys on Christmas day. I prefer what the Addams Family can do, but it's just super easy to have a soft spot for the original Munsters. They were harmless and a lot of goofy fun.

Fun fact about Daniel Roebuck: he was at one point cast as Marv in Home Alone. Daniel Stern had quit after being told that filming had been extended by an additional week, and that he would not be paid for it, so they cast Roebuck to replace him. Columbus brought Stern back because he felt that Roebuck didn't mesh well with Joe Pesci.

@@thephantomsplit especially since now when Michael kills his sister its not really as shocking as when he comes from just a normal suburban family. One of the scary things about Halloween is the fact that it takes place in small town USA where most if not all of us know a town that resembles Haddonfield and Michael himself the embodiment of pure evil and a completely unfeeling uncaring death machine was basically Barbara and Ted from down the streets son. Having Michael come from a white trash toxic and broken home you honestly think of course he'd become crazy or at least he would definitely be in prison for something crazy
