As a proud 4th generation “Carny” I have always known Gibtown as the Mecca of our kind. I have heard story’s all my life of the interesting life and times of Gibtown. Centered mainly around the Showtime bar. My family was in show biz in Texas so we weren’t a part of the Gibtown scene. As a young adult I would hear stories from my family’s friends that live in that area of Florida and they occasionally would include stories of the lobster boy and his fighting ways. This story brings back a lot of those times. Thanks Scott.

You are one of my favorite bloggers and KZfaqrs! I started following you many, many years ago in the early days of FAD. Took a tour of yours in LA. And I'm happy to see you still doing all this, so many years later. I have such an appreciation for the time and effort you've put into your work and I think you are just such a gem of a person. When we briefly talked at your museum, I could feel your enthusiasm for your work. You were funny and engaging. Thank you for all this and I wish you continued success. Please let us know how we can support your efforts!

Scott, Grady and his son was here in Ottawa Ohio back in the 70's they were the side show of a circus and I got an autograph picture from him and I watched him autograph it, he wasn't very friendly and didn't say much in fact if anyone said anything to him he would stick his tongue out, he was a very scary man, I am a big fan keep up the great work, your biggest fan Roger Kistler

I live in Arkansas and my daughter was a member of a dance school in our town a few years ago (Searcy). I actually met a lady there who's daughter also took classes and she had adopted a little girl with this condition and would bring her to classes and visit with us parents. She was so adorable and she got around so easily with her arms and legs. I was mesmerized by her. My first thought is I wondered if was kin to the Lobster Boy and this family somewhere down the line. I'll always remember her and how happy she was.

That man sounded like a legitimate piece of 💩 and definitely had karma coming his way. It's a shame that his lips weren't fused together rather than his fingers. It's too bad that the jury didn't show the family any mercy or understanding regarding their situation. I'm glad that they are out from underneath his abuse and violence, but I hope they are able to lead a happy life once they're out of prison.. the exception, of course, being the son who was sentenced to life. I hope he is either granted clemency at some point or is able to get out of prison in some way so that he can lead a happy and prosperous life himself. Thanks for sharing this story, Scott. Super interesting and gives the family members a little bit of Justice as we're able to better understand their reasoning and know that they should not be in prison. Someone should find out their inmate numbers so people can send them money to put on their books. Just a thought. Anyway, great video sir!

"Dirty pillows" from Carrie. That movie could never be made today, with its depiction of full, female nudity among so-called teens. The life of a carny is adventurous and mysterious. I remember many years ago when the State Fair of Texas removed the "freak shows." I understand why, but it seems to me that they obliterated a source of income for many of the performers.

A big traveling carnival came through town. It was fun, a dozen big rides, took my kids, fantastic fireworks show. A local guy, Mike, biker kind of guy, big mouth, drank too much, he was missing for a month right after the carnival left town. He was found, 3 months later, hanging from a tree in the woods across from the field where the carnival was held. A half skeletonized thing in a leather jacket. Mike was a lot of things, but he was never accused of being suicidal. I, and others, think the carneys whacked him. We were used to Mike's ways, tough guy, leather jacket, threatening, big mouth. He was a pain in the ass, but hell, he was grandfathered, so we put up with him. He was mostly talk, buy him a beer and all was cool. I can imagine him telling a dozen carneys at the local pub how he was going to fuck them up after he changed the oil in his Harley. RIP Mike.

You also have to understand the performers were all taken advantage off and the they would get screwed over and not get paid what their worth...they would take most of the money. Nowadays if you want to see Oddities and Performers...I refused to call them Freaks... Well if want to see them nowadays, all you have to do is watch the TLC network. At least they get paid more and better on TLC network 🤣🤷‍♂️some are getting work on American Horror stories series.
