Lol I never realized the mushrooms were Chinese when I was a kid. Yeah, I know now this is the Chinese dance part of The Nutcracker Suite, but I had no concept of that when I was little. Never realized the flowers were doing the Cossack dance during the Russian portion. Lol They were just cartoons to me.

It should be noted that Fantasia SAVED BALLET! By 1940, the ballet was a dying medium, originally destined to be forgotten, as no one wanted to see it anymore, but Fantasia's rendition of the Nutcracker Suite was got people to see a ballet...

*of/from the Nutcracker suite composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. When you stop and think about it there are 3 Russian composers whose works feature prominently in Fantasia (Stravinsky and Mussorgsky being the other 2). It's amazing that this probably could not have been made even 10-15 years later due to the red scare of the brewing cold war.

This was animated by Art Babbit. The same guy who animated the Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. He left Disney after conflicts over work and pay. He worked with Richard Williams after Disney.
