My Radiology Professor, Lindsay Rowe, always used Beethoven as an example when he talked about Paget's Disease. This is abnormal growth of bone after adulthood. Often the first sign is that the hat becomes too small as the skull grows. In Luigi's case, the auditory canal started laying down bone, gradually crushing the auditory nerve. I treated a patient with Paget's that wasn't caught early and he suffered from excruciating joint pains. I'm greatful that Beethoven gifted us his music despite his hardships.

My favourite Beethoven pieces: Piano Concerto Nº 4, Symphony Nº 3 together with Piano Eroica Variations, Violin Sonata in A minor, Grosse Fugue String Quartet, Piano Sonata Nº 32, and Rondo in C, Op 51, Nº 1 (was obsessed with this one as a beginner)

My most favorite sonatas of his are the Pathetique (no 8) and sonata no 3, especially the first movement of both.

Love the Emperor Concerto playing in the background during your commentary. Really geeky trivia re: the theme of the 5th Symphony; in Morse Code, the letter "V" is represented by dot-dot-dot-dash. If you hear it actually transmitted on a radio at the right tempo, it evokes the theme very precisely. It tied in nicely with the "V for Victory" slogan popularised by Winston Churchill, as the allies adopted music from a German composer to symbolise their determination to ultimately overcome the Nazis.

Will you ever do a video about more obscure composers of the 19th/20th centuries such as C.V Alkan -or- O. Respighi?

hi allysia, i wonder if you can help me with an advice, im currently playing the 30 studies in technique of czerny, but i dont know how much time spend daily in a etude, i hope you can help me. sorry for my english and greetings from chile

Hello! If you're practicing an hour a day, I wouldn't spend more than 10 minutes on an etude - maybe 20 minutes at most. So 1/6th to 1/3rd of your total practice time.

I've yet to actually listen to much of Beethoven, oddly enough. I should really get to that. But I do love the Moonlight Sonata! Well, the first and third movements. I'm not such a fan of the second...
@PianotvNet
@PianotvNet 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah the second movement is just meh. It feels like it was just thrown in there for the sake of having a second movement. At least it's short!
@danielcarstairs9311
@danielcarstairs9311 7 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ! Having played both the first and third movements, I definitely feel the second movement is a much needed breath of air. The outer 2 movements are brooding and emotional, which is great, but it looses its edge when over-done. I find the 2nd movement cheerful, with its semi-syncopated rhythms and bold octaves. Just my opinion, I'd love to hear why you dislike it :) [by the way, loved the video, as always]
@TheHeroRobertELee
@TheHeroRobertELee 6 жыл бұрын
It's arguable that it's even a Sonata, because the first movement doesn't follow the sonata format - Fast Movement/Slow Movement/Fastest Movement. It's more like Slow/Slow/Fast

Awesome video, but the notation of the 5th symphony is incorrect here. The theme is introduced by strings and clarinets (instead of flutes).

No, the second mvt in Moonlight is ingeniously interwoven. But it doesn't stand independently. The 3rd mvt comes in and destroys it. So dramatic.

Definitely not one off his favorites. That sonata was so popular in his time that he demanded: “Why do they always recommend that piece!? SURELY I’ve written better things!”

beethovens late sonatas are "kind of fun" ? You should realise a lot of people, not including me, take you very seriously. A lot of statements you make, in a lot of your videos, are totally wrong. Please care more about integrity and historical accuracy than about the amount of subscribers you have.

Music should be enjoyable and if she thinks it’s fun then that’s how she sees it, I know you probably aren’t against enjoyment of music but if it’s fun for her then that’s fantastic!
