Great video. Adding a rear locker adds a huge amount of traction and capability. Adding front and rear lockers will cost more than my Ford Expedition is worth, so I am going with a rear locker and just stay with the front limited slip. Thanks man!

I have a Mahindra pik up with an Eaton rear locker (Detroit auto locker)... i think the diff remains open (unlocked) until there is slip in difference between the hubs, in which it then engages and locks the diff. It’s auto because its constantly always ON, but only engages when the conditions are right... automatically...
@-Awareness
@-Awareness 3 жыл бұрын
The only negative I’ve found... is when cross axled and slippery with mud, the rear locker will engage and if the front has lifted on side, it can snap the diff lock in and pick the whole front up and turn the rig, landing in an awkward position (torsion bar IFS front end). Avoidable, but can certainly catch you off guard if you’re not ready for it...

My understanding and experience with them is they're always locked, but allow either wheel to go faster than the other. IE: the outside when when turning can go faster.
@TylerThompson90
@TylerThompson90 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I originally thought the same thing but upon researching it seems an auto locker actually remains locked all the time, then unlocks when it needs to, eg corner. Here is an example www.whichcar.com.au/gear/what-are-automatic-differential-locks Thats what I understood of it anyway

Timely vid Tyler. The Misses and I just came back from an early season camping trip on Vancouver Island, BC. We got bogged badly on a sandbar. My wife clearly experienced the lack of a locker. This will give her a clear explanation of what a locker can do. The content gave me a great rational for deciding between front or rear, electric or air. Thanks it was really good info. Keep it up Bro.

Ive got ARB twin locked Triton and have no issues steering while both lockers engaged. It may affect live axles more than IFS and you do feel the heavy steering but i can turn full lock no issues. So far have driven heaps of hard tracks with both and have had no negatives. Having the torque split over all 4 wheels makes it so stable and idles over things I wouldn't of believed prior.

Now that the rear locker is in place it's time for a front Autolocker :) Much cheaper than the Elocker, although probably labour is just as expensive to install in an IFS vehicle. I put an Autolocker in the front of my Patrol myself total cost $400 plus some diff oil. Would never have attempted it on an IFS. Result fabulous, I love my locker - same huge smiles as your dad is now throwing :)

I could be thinking about this wrong, but pretty sure there's nothing wrong with saying power goes to the wheel with no traction. Torque is fine too, but it basically is the same problem either way in this specific situation (i.e. the wheels in the air spin and you go nowhere). Would be interested to know why you thought you had to make that correction. Also, I think if I were going to go about it, I'd be installing an air locker in the rear, and auto-locker in the front. Air-locker seems to behave a little more predictably than an E-locker according to what I've heard about it.
