Soooo this is the full rundown of what's been happening, ever since I stepped foot into Europe. A very frustrating case of myocarditis, inflammation of the heart muscle, all from a very mild case of that pesky virus. If you're here for bike content then you'll be disappointed, because there won't be any for the next wee while. Looking forward to whenever I'll be cycling, running or gymming again 🙌🏼.

Your story is very interesting. I'm not a proffesional athlete but I am a cyclist who likes to "push on". The same happened to me last year. I was hospitalised though with a suspected heart attack and then in hospital for a week whilst dr's workout what it was as there were no blockages. Hearing your story I think I was very lucky. Unlike your 2 months it took a week for me to find out. I spent that week wondering what new hobby I'd have to do. It was as you say very tough. Then 1 month with no exercise - I said I needed stats. So the Dr said don't let your HR go above 100bpm - which you can do just walking up a hill. Then 3 months of up to 130bpm. I spent most of that time cycling behind my girlfriend :) although it took a while - I felt very weak to start with. I hope your recovery goes well. Just remember in the future it will seem like a small blip in your past.

I’m glad you’re back and I’m glad you’re listening to your body. So many fall into the same trap of trying to override an issue rather than tackling it. I am surprised the team have not been more involved in your treatment, but get well soon and look forward to seeing you back in the mix (when you’re ready).

Thank you for the update and sharing your story. The advice of "don't just do something, just sit there!" has to be incredibly difficult for an elite athlete. But remember, all spectacular achievements are always preceded by dull and unspectacular preparation. Wish you complete recovery after this time and a not so distant future of being back in the peloton.

I am so sorry to hear that you have been through all this! I can't imagine how hard it is to sit and do nothing when you really want to race and train, and just be active. Be patient, and have faith that you will get that fitness back! There is plenty more of the summer, and always more time for riding. Take care.

Truly sorry to hear of this setback for you Ella. It can’t be easy when you’re so far from home and knowing that family want to be there as a support but can’t be. Keep taking excellent care of yourself and hopefully the next video is you sharing good news!

I imagine it's hard being a cyclist and getting a diagnosis like this. As a cyclist you are well-versed in suffering and "pushing through the pain". It's basically glorified in our sport. I feel like if I was in your shoes I would be tempted to go on hikes or even rides, knowing that even if it hurt or was difficult, I would be able to push through it because hurting on the bike is normal. That change in mentality from wanting to push your limits and put your body on the line, to having to shut down those instincts and slow down for months must be really tough. Stay strong, we're all pulling for ya :)

This just showed up in my YT feed and looked interesting so I gave it a watch. I'm sure it's tough as a professional cyclist to not be on the bike training. Your fitness will come back fast once given the go-ahead to train again. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery! Cheers.

I had the same experience. Figured it was asthma reactivating, so used an old inhaler & pushed on with training for months. The symptoms eventually got severe & scary & ended up in the e.r. with a myocarditis diagnosis.

Sorry you are going through this. When I first encountered my own heart situation, it was a bit of a shock. Now I am able to manage it (what my channel is about). The worse part for me in various injures I have acquired that affects my cycling is the "no activity" part. I am always looking to do something and hate it when I can't. You have a healthy attitude about it now. Something I can learn from you. Hang in there and I will look forward to your future race videos.

Hang in there dude!!! Being unable to do something you love and that is your life is one of the hardest things to deal with. At least you have a defined time frame and can prep and plan and tick off the days. Enjoy the time off the bike while you can...i imagine you'll be back with a vengeance and dare I say it, might actually want some time off like you are having now. Maybe as someone else said...don't focus purely on cycling and not being able to cycle...on here and off it...fill your head and heart with other things that bring you pleasure rather than focussing on the negatives and this time in recovery won't be as hard as it could be. Goodluck with the recovery and then the road back to top form!

I recently gotten some strange symptoms where my heart rate would blow up to 100 resting and my blood pressure would go up. I also get head rushes, some twitches, and sleeping is hard. And the worst part is that the blood work does not indicate anything nor heart and kidney scans.

Oh Ella. Please listen to your body and follow the specialists instruction - although I think the Dr when referencing rest, should have said Complete Bed rest for x weeks would have made the definition of rest clearer. It is a tough situation and evident in the way you spoke that the mental struggle of not being able to do things is certainly weighing on you. But you are a true battler and you will get through this. I hope LPW are supporting you appropriately as well. Hang in there - you will make it back to the peloton!

Hang in there, remember that health is wealth. It is not just a cliche. As an athlete, we put our bodies beyond physical norms and especially with injuries that cause inflammation. Eventually, something has to give. Rest and recovery is crucial for increased strength and adaptation, so it isn't just a waste of time. Now if only I could listen to my own advice. Get well soon 🎉😂
