The Wars of the Roses were an incredibly turbulent time across England as the country was plunged into civil war for decades. The House of York and the House of Lancaster fought for military supremacy and for the crown, and one figure who can be seen as a victor during this period was Edward IV. He had inherited the Yorkist claim from his father who was killed in battle, and he was known for being a very good military leader. In a number of battles, Edward IV slaughtered thousands of enemy soldiers and with this his he became the King of England dethroning Henry VI. He was briefly dethroned, however much of Edward's reign was documented, but one incredibly mysterious part of his life is his death.
Very little is known about the death of King Edward IV which has led historians to speculate what actually killed him. It was said that he was ill for roughly around 10 days before he passed away, but some people have even blamed that the King was poisoned. He did have a number of enemies, but other causes of death have been attributed to have been linked to a stroke, or most probably that the King's diet and eating to excess had a major role in his death. Contemporary accounts stated that he died from 'apoplexy,' caused by eating too much food constantly. But when Edward passed away there were no noticeable wounds or marks on his body, leading doctors to just speculate about what killed him.
