Amazing video! My 13yo is totally obsessed by this -- enough so that he's dragged me down the hole. I ended up writing a program to calculate the squareness of countries, and according to my metric Egypt is indeed the winner at 89.5% square, followed by (North) Sudan and Cote D'Ivoire both at just over 83%. Interestingly (to me at least), these seem to be the only countries that score higher than a circle, which scores exactly 2*sqrt(2)-2, or roughly 0.828, on my metric. So rejecting countries for being "too round" may not be valid, at least not if you're interested in finding square-ish countries beyond the top 3.

No. Malaysia. Jay, Malaysia is not a square. But there must be one somewhere. Not in Oman or the U.A.E., and Yemen's more of a rectangle. Yes, I can see. Russia's nothing like a square. Too long as I'm aware. Mali starts off strongly, but right here is goes to pot. Burkina Faso is irregular, four-sides is not. Hmm... Italy's a boot. So is Papua New Guinea. What about Benin and Togo? map men being translated as "男性の地図” (dansei no chizu) in japanese is so funny to me, it's literally "men's map" or "a man's map". took me a while to realise it was supposed to be map men lol. a more accurate way to say it would be 地図の男性 (chizu no dansei), lit. "map's men" the whole thing translates as "dear volunteer, can you translate this sentence? thank you! men's map" EDIT: i just put into google translate basically what i wrote above except with "thanks a lot" and "map men" and it came out with the exact phrasing in the video which honestly makes the whole thing even funnier
