I didn't see any naked guns in here but I certainly found out how NOT to practice safe sex.
Lieutenant Frank should have his driving license revoked. In fact, I feel that Stephanie can drive better than him! 😂
Plenty of funny scenes in this movie. Take a guess which scene I found the most hilarious (my favourite scene) and which scene I found the most ridiculous. The answer is at the end of the reaction when I share my thoughts.
Do share with me:
1) Your favourite scene
2) The scene you feel is the most ridiculously hilarious! 😝

Yes, Goodyear is a tire company but they used to have a large blimp with their name emblazoned on the side, which would hover of sports stadiums to get aerial photos (and advertise the brand).

Rewatching these films - this style of humor - should be required because there are soooo many jokes, so many references that need time to digest - or simply see.

When the doctor is fleeing, he winds up riding a missile into a fireworks factory. That would seem to be a spoof of the most iconic scene in the movie Dr. Strangelove, where one guy rides a nuclear missile in cowboy-fashion as it plunges towards its target.

There are some jokes referencing the _Police Squad_ TV show. At the hospital, Frank asks “Where’s Nordberg?”, not recognizing that he’s standing beside him. In the show, Nordberg was played by a different actor. The food being spoiled, and the freezer frozen solid isn’t just Frank being stereotypically irresponsible with his kitchen. The show was cancelled in 1982, and _The Naked Gun_ was made in 1988, so Frank hadn’t been back to his apartment to clean out his fridge or defrost his freezer in all that time. Also, it’s every man’s right to fake orgasms. Not necessarily our ability, but it is our right. 😄

Wow, that's cool. Those who know about the TV show would catch on 👍 adds a nice little touch. If a man can do so, sure why not 😂

Almost no TV show has survived on shotgun humor. A lot of shows have lasted on Single-Joke premises (Gilligan's) but not too long. I think the TV show has only a faint odor of the NAKED GUNs... which is kind of surprising. I'd have thought 90min of this humor would be 'too much' but no...

Ludwig's secretary was played by Charlotte Zucker, whose sons, Jerry and David, were directing this. Over the years, she often had a small part in many of the films her sons produced and/or directed. It started for her in 1980 with "Airplane!", when she got all sorts of makeup all over her face.

@@henryellow I remember seeing her mention it in a DVD extra of a film the Zuckers released in 2001, "Rat Race". Also, Weird Al Yankovic ended up making a cameo in all three Naked Gun films. The second one isn't as obvious because he didn't play himself. Apparently he wanted a part in the first film because he was a fan of the short-lived "Police Squad!" series this film was based on.

The movie Platoon was a very bloody and tragic war movie at the time, which no one would come out of the theater afterwards all happy.

In baseball, each team waits in a depressed area at the side of the field, a dugout. The name of the meat company, Dugout, implied hot dogs served at baseball games. (Watched this movie many times, never noticed the name on the water tank.)

Drano is pretty much pure sodium hydroxide, aka lye, plus other chemicals. Sodium hydroxide is also the main ingredient in a lot of oven cleaners. The lye reacts with the grease in the drain or on the sides of oven in a chemical process called "saponification," the formation of a metallic salt of a fatty acid; i.e., a soap. The reaction involves treatment of free fatty acids and/or glycerides with a base. In olden days, housewives used to collect all the animal fats from cooking. They also collected ashes from wood fires. The ashes were leached with water, to create a related chemical, potassium hydroxide ("potassium" - "pot ash), then boiled with the fats. Soaps work because these long organic chains, which are non-polar, will mix with non-polar fat and grease molecules. The other end, due to the potassium or sodium ion, "dissolves" in water, thus in effect mixing water and oil/fat. (Sorry to go on so long but I think this is neat.)

I believe it is also Stephanie, student driver, who falls from the top bleachers and lands on Reggie Jackson, but we don't get a good luck at her.

If that was her, it would be cool 😂 She would be Frank's lucky star, though I pity the things she had to go through (getting windshield shards in her hair, getting shot by a dart and falling off a great height, etc.)

The part with “Lieutenant.” “The feeling is mutual” That you didn’t understand is simply a joke on a socially awkward situation Frank assumed the other guy was going to say something along the lines of “it’s a pleasure to meet you” to which “the feeling is mutual” might make sense But Frank either jumped ahead a line in the conversation by being socially awkward, or is clearly shown to be rude or not be interested at all in the other person by not even listening to their actual greeting, or could have even been jumping ahead one line in the movie script 😊

1.99 for a dozen donuts in 1988 is equal to 5 bucks today. Still a deal though. They were eating pistachio nuts, which at the time of production were dyed red. This was before metal detectors at entrances to ball parks os how the gun was snuck in.

The guy in the beginning who tries to take on 20 guns with just his one was played by OJ Simpson, famous and respected football star at the time. After he retired, he had a short stint as an actor (and most people today who recognize him are taken aback learning that.) A decade or so after this movie, his estranged girl friend and apparently her just-casual male friend were found brutally hacked to death with a knife. Simpson was the obvious suspect, particularly as he was a violent and jealous man (steroids during his football time?) The trial was televised and captivated the nation at the time, called the "trial of the century" (although the Lindberg baby kidnapping trial decades earlier also earned that moniker). Simpson was eventually acquitted among a lot of controversy - some felt he was treated unfairly by the system because he was black. Others felt his celebrity status outweighed that and his treatment was in the other extreme. Several years later he wrote a book "If I Did It" where he basically admitted to the crime and was in effect boasting about it. So people who see this movie after all this enjoy seeing him get so horrible (even if staged) violence in this movie.

Airplane spoofed so many tv, movie, and commercial spots, so it isn't as funny for later audiences who don't know the originals. This movie is pretty much self-contained.

I'm still salty about Police Squad! being cancelled. Just mnsho but the TV show was much better. One reason is that it was making fun of TV shows. So it was in its own medium. The movies don't do that. Which might be why I never cared as much for the Naked Gun movies. Edit: The movie they attended and came out laughing, is a war movie. The joke is that is was not a funny movie. I HIGHLY recommend watching Platoon. One of the best war movies ever made. Might be the best. Edit #2: If you watch Platoon, don't research it first. It would spoil a lot of it. But it has an unbelievably great cast and won a shit ton of awards. And rightly so.
