The Sioux Chef, created by Sean Sherman, is an organization that aims to educate and promote Native American cooking. Sherman started the organization, realizing that knowledge of indigenous foods in North America had been lost. Through his organization, he and his partners are aiming to revitalize indigenous ingredients and the importance of cooking and food traditions for the cultural identity of Native Americans.

This brought me to tears. I remember going on a trip to the Lakota Sioux tribe at Pine Ridge to help build a community center. There is so much valuable culture and knowledge being lost, and it warms my heart to see this chef working to bring it back to life.

I absolutely love the fact that they are staying true and respecting what the Native Americans had used in their meals. I wish they had their own cooking show. And I have yet to see one Native American chef on the Food Network.

The Sioux chef!! Just shows when you stay true to your roots and continue to appreciate what is here, great things happen! Can’t wait to see what comes of the non profit, and maybe get a taste of their food someday soon!

Great Job you are a Diamond.. So happy that you bring back the food knowledge to your people. It is horrible and sad to see what kind of food most people on a reservation can buy. Sorry to say this; its a killer. Yes food is identity. Iam European and in Europe, the home country food is very important. I live in Portugal since 15 years and connectect with the Portuguese especially through the food. I am blessed to live in a very traditional village in the countryside, there is a lot of food to forage here. Unfortunatly people lost a lot of knwledge. Talk to your old people.

I was thinking the same thing. I am half Mayan and Half Aztec. However, I don’t know if any food from my tribes except for one recipe that my mother passed on to me. I would love to learn more about my heritage as well as other nations.

Love your clever twist of words... and Soo glad to see indigenous people regaining their culture and pride... and I have felt for years that one, maybe the main reason diabetes and other conditions are rampant is because the food was taken away and replaced with unhealthy, cheap commodities

I love this video. It would have been cool with native produced music as the background, but I don't think the music is really a problem and it didn't affect my experience watching very much. The filming and angles were great, and obviously the topic and content was amazing.

For Columbus day I did some research on restaurants that specialized in Indigenous foods. Guess what? I didn't find any in the Tri-State area. I hope that changes soon. P.S. The soundtrack for this was way generic and predictable. Otherwise, great post.

Columbus massacred millions of Native Americans. Its in southeast asia history books.

To clarify, I am fully aware of the atrocities that Columbus executed, encouraged and was the herald of. Columbus day has been a celebration of Indigenous culture for me ever since high school.

Nope. Apples and oranges. I've had authentic/traditional Mexican food in both Mexico and New Mexico. But surely you know that various Native American cultures have their own food. It was in no way one size fits all. It would be great to experience that and to give it all a place in our current culture again.

Beautiful view, the Cherokee is the best place to start, that's the youngest generation, food is similar to squirrels, nuts, fruits, vegetables, fish, bear, squirrel and that's about it. YOU are PART of the TWELVE TRIBES, you would be pride of America. Not me, I'm from Italy.

Homeless people are wasting time begging for money when they could be volunteering in the community or creating businesses instead. Let’s change that with the Universal Basic Income. Let’s give everyone over the age of 13 a guaranteed minimum income of $1,500ish USD/month.
