In this video I share with you the negative side of owning a Honda Goldwing motorcycle that many Goldwing owners don't want you to know. I also share my additional thoughts about purchasing the Souo 2000 by Great Wall Motors also known as the Goldwing Killer.

I am back.... I am 1 of those guys you mentioned about getting rid of their GW. I traded in my 2008 GW for an HD Trike several years ago do to medical reasons. What a MISTAKE... I am getting rid of the HD now and looking for another GW (Trike}. YOU are 110% right. I NEVER should have gotten rid of my 2008.. By the way I am 76 yrs young. LIVE & LEARN ... lol It feels GREAT to be back in with the most RESPECTED motorcycle again. Got a lot of catching up with your blogs.

Preach it preacher! 100% agree. Love my Honda Gold Wing DCT Tour! My 3rd. Man when you dropped the segment Wing Ding Rally’s you brought back such great memories. You added so much flava flave, style and class. The Litchfield, Illinois Rally you were referring to is put on by the Wing’D Rider association. It’s called the Wing’D Rider Rally. Now back to the the Gold Wing. My brother. Your Gold Wing sets a standard. Thank you for representing such a standard. It inspires. You are the man Chris. More in 24! Let’s go!

Gold wings are awesome but what I don’t like from the wing is if you are not a mechanic incline or don’t have the space to do it is that you pay around 600.00 just to replace the air filter that cost 30.00 part. That is a big negative from me why Honda after making a 30,000 bike don’t do a air filter friendly accessible ?? You have to pull apart half the front bike just to replace it .

Chris you are so right about doing your research before getting a bike. I rode a Yamaha Venture Royale during the 80-90's did over 90,000 miles on it. Loved the bike. I decided to get back into riding a touring bike. Did my research about all the bikes out there now... I decided the wing was the best choice for me. And I am loving the bike and the fellow GW riding family. What you said about the bike is so true....

I'm now in my 70s and all of my Goldwings (2008, 2012, and 2021) have been very reliable and I still enjoy long-distance road trips on my DCT. I agree that a negative side of riding a Goldwing is that I can't join an H.D. club and don't have hot babes wanting me to take them on a ride. On the positive side, when I get back home from a ride my wife won't force me to sleep in the dog house.

Goldwings have always been the OG touring bike in my opinion. I have seen some with 6 digit odometers still on the road and definitely is well respected. I am looking forward to getting one myself, I have always been a Honda man. I have had 3 bikes out of 7 that were not honda, 1986 Kawasaki KX80(raced), 1994 Suzuki GSXR 750, 2006 Yamaha 600r. I still ride Honda today as I own a 2008 Honda CBR 1000rr. My other Honda bikes were 1989 Honda CR125, 1992 Honda CR250(both raced), 1987 Honda Hurricane 600. Stay safe out there Chris!

My Honda Goldwing is at 174,900 plus miles. I plan on keeping it till i get into the 200,000 club and beyond. My friend owns a Honda dealership and is always trying to get me into a new one. One day i will but i am keeping my 2001 Apollo Pearl Blue Honda Goldwing for as long as i can! And to say how great they are mine is all original motor wise. Only thing been changed was the right radiator cause of an accident and the trunk cause it was cracking. This is the best bike ive ever owned and will continue to own. Thanks Chris and ride safe!!

Chris, you definitely are an ambassador for the Honda Goldwing. I saw the original Goldwing (1975 model) in August of 1974 up here in Ontario Canada at Cycle World on Dundas St. Toronto. It was the GL1000 back then and like American made cars they would bring out the new year version in August of the previous year, in this case 1974. Back then to buy it would cost you $1500.

Initially, I was very impressed with the concept of the Souo 2000cc engine and the eight speed transmission. These features should provoke honda to come up with some interesting answers in the near future. However, since I started riding bikes in 1980 in San Diego, I have never owned anything but a honda. I and my wallet have always been happy with the honda brand. That said, after listening to and considering the points made in your vlog, I’m content to wait for Honda’s response to the Souo 2000. In my final opinion nothing compares to owning a honda goldwing with its proven reputation for performance, reliability, affordability, parts availability, maintenance schedules, comforts, and good resale value!

Hi Chris. Long time subscribe and viewer. I just came back from the Wing'd Rider Rally in Litchfield, IL. It was a good time. Chris I'm now riding a 2007 Goldwing, I've owned many other motorcycles in my younger years, and up until recently i rode a Harley Davidson witch was stolen so I used my insurance payout to purchase my now Goldwing and I love it. Now question for you, I'm 66 year old and until now although I have admired the Goldwing through the years, I would not have considered owning one, I always viewed Goldwings as a older persons motorcycle, I believe you are about 20 years younger than me, Well I guess what I'm trying to say is are't you a bit young to be riding a DCT Goldwing, I mean that Harley nose and banging gears with a clutch seem like to me would more fancy a man in his forties. Lol ... I'm funning... I'm enjoying my Goldwing but I still like Harley as well, I was at the Rare Breeds Annual this past weekend here in Southern Cali where there was predominately all Harleys and I pulled in with my Goldwing and had no issues at all, As a matter fact some people showed interest in the bike and wanted to learn more about the Goldwing, Later that night the Drag racing got started and i was asked if I wanted to stage up against one of them Big Displacement Hogs ... Lol ... But I'm to old for that, Them days is long gone ... Anyway I've learned a-lot from your videos and i just wanted to share my thoughts ... :-)

Had a 2007 Goldwing and a 2014 Street Glide at the same time. Rode the GW way more than the SG. The GW was more comfortable and handled better than the SG. Sold both to buy a 2024 Goldwing Tour DCT and don't regret it at all. Having a trunk that both our helmets fit in is a huge win and the DCT is a game changer. My wife comments on how good the DCT is every time she's on the bike. Having the newer technology, suspension, and DCT will keep me on the newer GW.

Excellent video Chris! Love the analogy of the Alligator and the Hippo. When I was riding my 2012 FLHTK Harley Davidson there was a 2019 GoldWing Tour trying to come out! When I purchased the Honda GoldWing it was confirmed. Amazing machine. When I do Grace my former riding club with my GoldWing presence respect is definitely given and yes I even see a tenge of envy in their eyes. Probably due to the high maintenance cost they just paid in order to make the ride.

I have owned multiple gold wings , I love the engine very strong and the infotainment system has improved by leaps and bounds , but I hate the driving position, tall riders will have issues with comfort on long rides , I personally always purchased an aftermarket seat that helps ,and I am not a fan of of the starter reverse system . I think the Indian challenger is a nice alternative , but not a Goldwing killer . there will probably, never be a bike that is a Goldwing killer. When you talk about the new Chinese bike, the biggest problem for me would be, who will fix it, if you break down on a long ride where will you take it ,as far as technology, I think they have really looked and studied the Goldwing and probably has improved on a lot of things. Don’t let it get in your head that because it’s made in China. It’s not good but more important is Service after the purchase and true it will take a long time for them to prove that they could be as reliable as a Goldwing, or the Yamaha or any of the other Japanese bikes ,the question is, would I try it , yes if they sent me one , would I buy , at this point, probably not.

I had a 2005 GL1800 30th Anniversary Edition. I loved the bike, but I had a lot of problems. A lot of problems. The engine had been out twice, and was going to have to come out again. The early 1800's had an overheating problem. Mine did. I couldn't ride it to work because if I got stuck in slow traffic, the bike temp would start to head for the red. I would have to get off the freeway and ride side streets to get some air over the bike to cool it off. There was a hesitation that no one could figure out. There was an awful fuel smell from the bike after I would ride it and let it sit for 1/2 hour. My wife was afraid it would catch fire in the garage. One day riding with some friends to breakfast, the front timing cover bolt came off and oil was everywhere. I was fed up. I had the bike towed home, I fixed it and traded it in on the 2018 Tour DCT. My 05 only had around 53,000 miles on it. That was in Sept of 2018 so the new wings had been out for a while. I didn't just rush down to buy one when they came out. I can tell you without a doubt, I love the new Goldwing. I am not a big guy, only 5'7'' and this bike is smaller and fits me great. I ride it every day, unless it is over 100 like it has been the last week. Riding in that kind of weather is just not fun. It would be nice to have the newer improvements they have made, but I am happy with what I have. I have been riding Goldwings since 1989, my first one a 1984 GL1200. I have always had a Goldwing in the garage for the last 35 years. I now actually have 3 Goldwings in the garage so I guess I am hooked on Goldwing fever! Ride Safe.

I agree with you Chris, and for the simple fact that everyone wants to buy a Harley simply for nostalgia, because America wants to celebrate something made here, but If I was charge of Harley, my mission would be to make an American bike that was superior to any other bike, in reliability, aesthetics , performance, and have the balls to offer a warranty like Honda on every bike produced! I don’t buy Harley simply because everyone has one, in fact, I don’t like them, and my person wouldn’t ride anything other than a Goldwing😊
