And it's good that he keeps pushing the medium in an artistic way in these days when it's more about silly superheroes and sfx than ever.

And it's funny too because the concepts and atmosphere that Drive was universally praised for are, for some reason, what a lot people hate now. I don't get critics or audiences...

+Young Knight Firstly he's talking about "art" in general, not just movies. He's talking about the simplistic denominations of judging art as purely 'good' or 'bad'. Yes you can say a film is good or bad, but that's not the point when you're watching film as an art-form. When a film is operating as a piece of self-expression or art, it's there to make you think, and to make a feel. When you react strongly to something (whether reacting positively or negatively), it means that it evoked something inside of you. That's what art is about --- evoking an emotional, psychological, or intellectual response from you. Whether it's a good or bad response should make you *think* about it, not *judge* it. It's like looking at someone who's crying and saying "you're doing a bad job at crying." It doesn't make much sense, because that person is just expressing what they feel. Whether their crying is "good" or "bad" is completely irrelevant. Maybe not the sharpest analogy, but you get the idea.

Let the visuals tell the story. Like in the film when "God" and Julian are fighting in the temple. I believe that the neon red demon painted on the wall is the Devil. A head on God's trophy wall. The Devil is immobile but only his influence escapes into the world. A human child of God is fighting with him in his ancient temple in sight of God's first child who ended up rebelling against him.

+Eduardo Mandim that's what I like about about his film it actually encourages you to think about what's happening what the characters are thinking why they did what they did and what the setting means

it's a cult classic right now.. it will soon be heavily appreciated in the next 15-20 years and will be released on a Criterion Collection.

Not necessarily but to imply that it is not at-least a decent movie is preposterous purely because of the quality of the visual aesthetic.

Aesthetics alone do not a 'decent' movie make. There are plenty of well shot pieces of egotistical nonsense out there. It appears to me that he now merely contributes to that.
