The thing about this election, it’s very obvious why each candidate would win and why the other lost.

Agreed, it's odd. It feels like both have cemented their reasons for losing and also paved their path to winning reelection as well, no matter how you may feel about each candidate.

@@ThunderTheBlackShadowKittyunless you consider there has been no real change in US policy since the 90s and the drift into decline we are in will likely continue no matter who is in charge and our foreign policy will likely stay the exact same.

@@historyrepeat402 That's simply not true at all. We've seen a drastic change in domestic, foreign and fiscal policy over the past 30 years, however these fiscal changes have largely NOT benefitted us but instead the upper class. Who is in charge ABSOLUTELY steers the course of our policy in all ways.

I hate to go a bit off topic, but, as someone that experienced several electoral cycles in Mexico, I can assure you that while the law has very strict limits on campaigning, all political parties are very adept at skirting around this legislation. From billboards featuring fake magazines promoting "interviews" with candidates, propaganda meant for primary elections being broadcasted publicly (with very fine print stating that it's for party members only), to even the president outright attacking candidates from other parties in his own conferences (Which is illegal in Mexico, funnily this law was proposed by the now president's party when he was a candidate). In short, the last three or four mexican electoral cycles have also felt never ending, imo, currently the country looks like it's emulating the worst aspects of american politics

Politically speaking I dislike both candidates deeply for the same reason. Neither address issues that would benefit my demographic. There is a epidemic of male loneliness that needs to be addressed before it causes any more harm. Young white men feel disenfranchised with their future. They get told by the left that its because their time is coming to an end and they need to become allies of their ideology or get lost. Meanwhile the right demands that they accept wage slave jobs and that they aren't working hard enough while they pander to the emerging right wing latino and black communities. I don't know what can be done I'm a nobody but I can assure you that if this continues there will emerge a far right racially focused movement in the west if left unaddressed for much longer...

I feel like this nation has been in a state of utter confusion since that "fateful day going down the escalator" like I want to get off this wild ride. I want stability, I just want a break. But I also want a country that actually works for everyone and where real wealth is attainable to all, and not just a country where a bunch of insiders have a huge sway over our government and politics. But how can you achieve the latter without going through breaking down the former?

To be fair, part of the reason for America's relatively long election cycle is logistical. Elections are ran at the state level and primaries for a November general election are independently set up for each state at different times and can happen as early as January of the election year. Meaning without changing how we fundamentally choose candidates for the general election in this country (that being the primary election process ran by the individual states on their own independently established schedules), if we used a 90 day rule for presidential elections that still means between the first Iowa Caucuses and when candidates could announce would still be in september/October of the year before the general election (a whole 14 months before the big general election). Now there is a lot of excessiveness in American politics, like presidents basi ally get their first 100 days in office to really push out any big changes before it seems we judge their whole presidency and start to think about the next election (or, as some have put it, it's never not election season in the US due to the sheer number of elections we have when you combine local, state, and federal election calendars for all eligible offices, every house of reps seat alone gets relelected every two years with the same primary process, and some local offices, even if uncompetetive, have yearly elections)

I don’t think there will ever be a return to “normalcy.” Politics will be forever changed by Donald Trump’s presidency, whether he wins this election or not. The best that we can hope for is that Biden, and/or whoever gets elected in 2028, is that they will be a strong and effective leader to handle the coming new era.

Broadly good cultural analysis, disagree on Biden's problems + think not enough criticism for weird ways our populist/outrage culture contribute to the fake vibecession stuff, think ultimately people are tired of the political climate that Trump created from 2015-present and will vote for Biden just to bring the chapter to a close, regardless of how polarizing against the right-wing coalition he is or uninspiring to the far-left, the liberal coalition still outnumbers the Trump coalition--evidenced by the latter's losses in the popular vote in '16 and '20. Being an incumbent usually only helps, so can't see Trump genuinely improving on his prior performances--people know who he is, and they don't like him, even if the fans he does have are diehard.
