The way Sophy can stick to your bumper like super glue is just uncanny while obeying the same physics model and not rubber banding. I really think the races are so short because, in my opinion, a human would lose a race of attrition under that kind of immense pressure. I don't think most humans would be able to withstand relentless pressure for half of an hour. I hope that Sophy can be tweaked and eventually rolled out as the standard AI. It will take a long time, but one can hope.
@mkaleborn
@mkaleborn Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the goal should be to give players a challenge but one that resembles a human challenge rather then a grinding attrition vs a perfect opponent. Adjusted for players skill level obviously. It shouldn't be hard to bake in some realistic 'tenths/hundredths' human reaction times for the AI, rather then the microsecond-perfect reaction times they are able to operate on. With the way AI modelling works, you should be able to generate a couple dozen different AI drivers with a diverse skillset that apes the mixed bag of skill, error-proneness and aggression levels of humans. Given enough exposure to how humans drive. So this month of Public testing should be really good to help train the Sophy AI in all of the ways humans suck, or excel lol.
@some_doofus
@some_doofus Жыл бұрын
@@mkaleborn it would be awesome to have more interaction between the other AI drivers. In every GT game so far I’ve never really payed attention to the other racers. They all just felt like obstacles rather than unique drivers, so I never even bothered remembering their names. But imagine an entire field powered by unique versions of Sophy, with unique driving styles, skill levels, even rivalries between each other and the player that change between races. Suddenly each AI racer becomes worthy of attention, just like irl. You’ll have to actually learn their names, and their strengths and weaknesses. There could even be a whole section added to introduce you to the other racers, providing backstories for each of them about how their racing career started, etc. It would massively improve the immersion in the single player career. Imagine having a dedicated rival system similar to Shadow of War where every time you narrowly beat a particular driver, or have contact, or cause them to crash out, they become more determined to beat you in later races, or become more aggressive towards you. Would add some really interesting dynamics to the racing.

@Aative
@Aative Жыл бұрын
@@trumplostlol3007 a game of chess is far simpler than a race because there are significantly fewer possible scenarios for the AI to learn. In this 1v1 scenario? Sure its basically a time trial for the AI to run optimal laps. In a 14 car race? There are many more variables to consider as each car will be making its own independent decisions that will affect other cars on the track. Hot-lapping doesn't translate to pack racing, but if PD can mock up "player scenarios" where the AI has to deal with races from real people and navigate through the pack, it will improve in its decision making and planning which makes better AI.

@@Fosten12 You need to understand the term "reinforcement learning" in neural network. ALL learning AIs today are based on Bayesian learning (neural network). Racing AIs reassess probabilities of things that may happen after racing with humans or itself or other AIs. Racing AIs are just like chess AIs, Go AIs, ... AIs don't need human input any more. They learn things by themselves. Say some chat bots only need to be given books. You don't need to teach them grammar. They learn grammar all by themselves. They will learn how to read and then talk over time, all by themselves.

Looking at the incident at 19:00 it feels as if Sophy saw you coming up full steam from behind and was trying to avoid a punt, so it held off braking but ended up overcooking it and didn't slow down in time to make the turn. This was an incredible experience to watch though, aside from some odd quirks Sophy really does feel very organic in its moves and decision making, it doesn't have that weird robotic stiffness and dangerous reactions that plagues a lot of conventional racing AI
@user-bt8xr5si9y
@user-bt8xr5si9y Жыл бұрын
What I noticed is that Sophy, since it's a computer, is able to stay bumper to bumper but still not run into the back of you under heavy braking. If a normal player would have raced him here instead of Sophy I guarantee that player would have run into the back of Steve so many times simply because they are so close together and there is no way a human would be able to do that consistently throughout different classes and tracks. This gives the AI the advantage of pretty much always being close enough to do something rather then being too far away. Well that and the fact that it can maximise every corner consistently aswell. Really it's all about consistency lol

I completely agree with this. I think this Sophy Violette AI model is a basically cheating. It's not realistic in the sense that no one can be on the bumper of a player through a hairpin braking zone and come out of the apex sparkling clean. This bullshit trickery from the model. Save the compliments for when Sophy replaces the current abysmal AI that’s in GT7. These Sophy races are essentially just a month long demo, and ONLY if you’re playing on PS5 can you even do them. Forza’s AI, while flawed, still offers better racing than GT7’s AI in the single player.

This is the only Sophy video I've seen, but I'm curious if you'll see a difference over the next few weeks or so in online races as more people spend more time in these challenges. Kind of seems like it slightly encourages less than strictly "sportsman" like tactics. I can see some bad habits getting made then bleeding over to the actual racing. But then again, what is sportsmanship? 😉

@TSEDLE333 That's what I was referring to, maybe next few days would be a more appropriate time frame. I haven't yet tried it, but i do like where this is hopefully headed. I imagine it being somewhat like how you 'controlled' your B-Spec driver in GT5 - you had no direct car input, but you could manage the current pace of the driver at all times. Passive for fuel/tyre saving and slower pace, neutral for regular driving and agressive for pushing and overtakes, with the caveat of occasional mistakes. The times i'd go and make a drink mid race after asking my guy to push only to come back and find he's 3 positions down cos he got on the grass while passing were always fun XD Point is if they're able to program the AI to have these features on top of other's suggestions here it'd be a hell of an AI to play against! Great vid as always dude!

Why no penalty system ? I understand it's a special event showcasing the driving skill of the AI, but having the penalty system active could: - showcase if Sophie ever gets a penalty, for cutting a corner, punting someone or sth else - invalidates the losses of the AI that were made with illegal moves to give meaning to the races won fair and square by human drivers.

I think a really good thing with this A.I would be helping people practice offensive and defensive driving offline. With the base A.I, you can really only train yourself on inner skills like breaking, acceleration, etc. With an A.I that could drive differently depending on the players skill level, I feel you would see people utilize offline mode as a better practice for almost every aspect of the game, thus having the general skill of players rise. Really cool to see

Problem with AI is they can have all the ability without physical constraints. They can mimic ABS without turning on ABS because there is no physical pedal to pump, its all 1's and 0's. They can pull off all the drivers assists because why not (like traction control, know the perfect RPM and timing and whatever else a human doesn't notice). The perfect AI will be unbeatable if only it can be unpredictable and predict everything you do. It's like those Chess AI's, humans can't beat them now from my understanding. The "perfect" AI is the one that is slightly hobbled so the best of us can stand a chance and have fun lol, ie replicate human imperfections at a near perfect state.

Speed was never really the issue with AI, it's always about whether you can get them to race sensibly against a human. This looks at least like a step in the right direction (so long as you treat it "fairly" I suppose) but who knows ... other footage I've seen looked honestly a bit more promising in terms of its racing capabilities, there's probably also worse out there. Guess it kinda depends on the player speed and style whether it "fits" well.

There was an article on Sophy a while ago where they said pretty much this. I'll try to find it later but the team pretty much said that learning it to not be ultra aggressive took a lot of time, as it would dive into every tiny gap. The fact that it can back off already seems better than what they described.
