Geoff Edwards took the helm as host from Blake Emmons with Rod Charlebois as his announcer sidekick. This duo would continue the rest of the show's run until its final season in 1991.

Geoff Edwards was a seriously underrated game show host

I loved the theme song, host Geoff Edwards, the CBS canned applause, Rod Charlebois ushering in the show and the players, and the fact that this aired on USA during the eighties and nineties (1986-'92).

Very nice to see The New Chain Reaction with Geoff Edwards. I remember watching this on the old USA Network when they had the biggest game show block schedule

Word! From 1985 to 1995, the USA Network schedule was the go-to for great game shows.

My Mom and Godmother were on this show back in the 80's and were the first 5 day champions (from what I remember being told). That was a good Christmas. Lol ❤️

I recall watching this on Global weekday mornings. It was paired up with Bumper Stumpers which was filmed in Toronto and like this version of Chain Reaction used the same bell and buzzer from the $25,000 Pyramid.

Marvelous word game from Bob Stewart. This show has had more lives than a cat.

During the 1986 version's first 4 seasons when the show was titled as "The New Chain Reaction", the font used for the words "The" and "New" in The New Chain Reaction logo signs is called Santa Fe.

This was a Canadian GS but they used the CBS canned applause

The opening montage of past winners like those seen on $25K Pyramid and Press Your Luck never aired on the US airings of Chain Reaction.

Note the long gap between the hotel plug and start of the end credits, which is where fee plugs would have been placed for the US airing.

On a sadder note, Rod Charlebois passed away in May (shortly after his 79th birthday) due to complications from a bicycle accident...RIP Rod, and say hi to Geoff for us! 😔

The Downtown episode mentioned in the end credits aired on 12/6/1986 and was said to air "tomorrow",. so the airdate is probably 12/5/1986

So Geoff was hosting this show at the same time he started hosting the syndicated version of Jackpot?

@Puzzlefan30 Second best for me. I prefer the one with Bill Cullen just a little bit more.

This is from the first season of the Canadian Global/USA Network Chain Reaction. Geoff's first season episodes aired on USA network originally between 9/29/86-1/9/87, and Blake's episodes aired on USA from 1/12/87-3/27/1987. They were repeated from 3/30/1987-7/10/1987(Geoff), and 7/13/1987-9/25/1987(Blake). Geoff's episodes aired again on USA from 9/28/1987-12/31/1987 before the second season with new set colors debuted on 1/4/1988 on USA, but the shows were copyrighted 1987

Im wondering did Geoff really not know the answer or was he just trying to make a joke at the end of each show

Did they even have a real audience in the studio? The reaction noise to them losing the bonus round was really cheesy.
