Such a cool product. Is there a D4 coming out or will the D3 be current for a while yet? Also, since it uses GPS and synthetic vision can it be used as a backup navigator like a Garmin 396?

The D3 is our current flagship portable. We don't really comment on future product plans before we unveil/make announcements. Think of the D3 as a portable backup attitude indicator that can come with you and isn't tied to the airplane. It's definitely a capable bacon-saver - and has some saves to its credit already - if you ended up in a partial-panel situation in a "classically" equipped aircraft. The synthetic vision is terrain-only (ie, it doesn't have airports), so it is best to pair it with a companion mapping and navigation solution.

I love the product. This would be a no brainer purchase if it had a magnetometer to give a heading and not just GPS ground track though. Can you tell us what happens if it looses GPS signal in flight? Is the AHRS engine capable of just using the internal accelerometers and gyros to continue giving pitch, attitude and compass data?

GPS is required as an aid for attitude. If GPS is lost, attitude will not be displayed after a few seconds.

@@DynonAvionics Ah, ok. So the compass will continue to read GOC while GPS is lost though?

@@will-7073 No. The direction indication on the D3 is GPS-based. Without GPS, the slips/slid ball and turn rate indicator will continue to function.

At least in my D1, when it loses GPS it just goes black with a red X in the screen. You can't really trust it.

Be careful. I bought it last month....I fly in France and when there is no GPS signal you cannot use this device because horizon dissapear. In my opinion italienne is good Just in case of critical situation but not for ifr flying
