Several months in, I actually like it more than the version before. Though I really hated it at first and my wife just quit Duolingo altogether despite her multi-year streak.

@@cuteek I was on level 4 russian and now all of the 'path coin thingys' are highlighted gold, so it doesn't tell me which lessons i need to brush up on or go back to. None of it's labelled properly so you cn't see what to study and I spent literally thousands of accrued gems completing the legendary levels, up to level 36 in the new path. To compete a legendary level, you have to pay nearly 1000 gems as each round you have to use 100 gems each round... I just bought rosetta stone instead and will be using that in future.

ahh that sucks! Yeah I think the guided learning is more in the paid version of the app... even the suggested stories are all the same ones I've done before and I really miss the audio/podcast feature.. I'm going to continue as I just reached streak 777 days but it's not the same. Have you tried studying it on desktop? Some of the same levels only cost 5 red lingot gems to complete rather than 100 blue gems on mobile? Hope Rosetta Stone learning goes well, I've heard good things.

I hate it, what would someone learn a language as long as the end it is after a bottomless scroll? It is extremely demotivating and I am seriously considering dropping Duolingo.

I get it. I do find it better to use on desktop though, you only have to use 5 red gems for levels as opposed to 100 blue gems on the mobile app. That’s something I guess…

I started using the desktop version once all those horrible updates started happening. Then they updated the desktop version to that same garbage interface. That was the end for me! Now I just try to teach myself by putting the phrases I actually want to learn into google translate. Then I practice them on my spanish speaking coworkers.

@@cuteek no it’s still very horrible. Time doesn’t help in this situation. It’s still the same horrible update no matter how long we use it, and nothing can fix it unless it is removed as a whole.

Unpopular opinion: this was a great update. I don’t like choices, I like it when things are linear and not confusing to navigate. The path also lets you better see the progress you’ve made and how much you have left. But, I do think they should’ve at least added forks in the road. But it’s not a TERRIBLE update that everyone’s making it out to be.

honestly I like this update, it's probably me being biased since I barely played around with Duolingo during it's previous phase but I'd rather not have to worry about both paths of something, making sure I get everything only weird thing though is you will constantly get stories using words that you don't understand yet (the worst offenders being the early ones)

This update is awful. Bring back the old layout or at least have it as an option. Offer refunds to anyone unsatisfied with the change. I've requested a refund but was denied :/

@@cuteekno it’s still very horrible. I’m just barely dragging my 400+ day streak every day. I feel as though I’m forcing myself at this point. It’s so unfun. I’ve come close to losing my streak multiple times because of how draining and discouraging the app is. And I just do one lesson, when I’m supposed to do at least 3 or more. It doesn’t even feel like I’m learning the language anymore. I can’t eagerly continue if I don’t have any interest in learning, and this is all because of the app. (The update)

I think you might have to complete level 13 for the next one to show? Also try to use the desktop version, I’ve had better success with that. Some of the levels cost red gems and are less that on the app. Let me know if it works ok

The update is infantile and unusable for a motivated learner. I recommend canceling your subscription and just use the free version. It will get their attention if enough unsubscribe.

I actually don’t have the subscription, my problem is to progress I’m using so many blue gems. On desktop at least I can use red gems which I have so many of.
