I'm closing out April with the new Michelin Defender LTX M/S Review for 2021! You'll see it has a symmetric tread pattern like the old Michelin defender LTX M/S, but with an updated compound. I think you'll find this review helpful if you've been thinking about getting a set of these tires. They are quiet, smooth, and last a long time, but they are on the pricey side. The tire shown is a 225/65/R17 and retails for around $196.99
As always let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Thanks!

I've been using LTX's on my Land Rovers for many years, and if you only look at the price point they appear to be expensive. A set of tires will last 2x to 3x longer than the comparable Goodyear's, Firestone's, Continental's, Geolander's, WHY. I've driven many miles from hot, highway conditions to snow covered forest service roads, and never had a moment when I even questioned my tire choice. They perform better than the tread pattern would suggest off road, IMO, they're well worth the money.

I just put a set of these Michelin Defender LTX for my wife’s Infiniti QX-80 because they just started making this tire in 275/50 R22. Had them on about a month and wow! Best riding tire I have ever bought and if they go 70k miles it will be worth the money. They are expensive but so far worth it and they look great on this kind of SUV. Thanks Matt, your tire reviews are always great!

Great tire. I've put almost 10k on my set (09 Nissan Frontier V6 4WD, manual). Very smooth and quiet tire that has stayed in balance and has excellent traction on wet roads or light snow. They're an 800 A-A tire and act like it. They show very little wear at this point.

Looking to replace my LTX M/S2 after 70k miles on them. I didn't believe the tire salesman when he told me I'd get that many miles on them but I did.. I could actually probably get another 10k if I didn't get a screw in the drives side. Looks like I'll be going with a set of the Defenders now! Thanks for the informative video!

A buddy of mine had a set of these on his truck. When I tell you I’ve never been more impressed with a tire… I mean it. He drove through a alley in 2-3 feet of snow with these things, they didn’t even flinch. He drives daily on gravel roads too, it’s just the cost that holds me back as well as the plain sidewall look but they do stay nice as black.

Every time I switched to something else, things went bad, and I had to go back to Discount Tire and have LTX M/S put back on. While using them I have never had a reason to think, gee if I only had some better tires on here. All the off-roading I have done they worked fine and were not the limiting factor in my ability to get in or out a place. My wife's Honda Pilot needed a new set of LTXs and I let someone convince me a different tire would be better for her Pilot. She doesn't know anything about tires or cars but the next day she didn't even know I put new tires on, but she did say "What the hell did I do to my Honda! it doesn't drive right" I said I put better tires on. @@mikerzisu9508 The Premiers were great wet grip tires but, like you, I averaged about 35K. I've already got 20K on my LTX's and they hardly look broken in. I expect to get well over 50/60K from the looks of them.

A few months I spent countless hours viewing and attaining info on tires for my 2021 TRD PRO Tundra, my first truck. The truck came with Nitto Grapplers, looked incredible, however I was concerend on wet weather and noise, and MPG. After many video's this video and some of your others were the reason I went with the Defender LTX MS. They are NOT sexy by any means especially on a trd pro tundra, but oh man that ride! Living in Florida, all city an highway driving with summer rains this was a practical choice. THANK YOU for that! That being said, we do go to our cabin, Blue Ridge Mts, for winter. Although not CO snow there is some, but mainly gravel driving up the moutain, wet weather an agan some snow. What tires would you recommend considering a 9 hr drive there, Fuel economy, road noise yet a slight more aggresive for handling harsher conditions? Im curently looking at KO'2s, AT3's, Toyo's and yes maybe even the nitto's again although I hear they are not great in wet weather. Thoughts??

Nope. You are good with what you have. If you do change, I would try the Continental Terrain Contact AT. The others will be too aggressive for you.

Great review. Appreciate how in-depth it is. You mentioned that it is a good tire for CUV. It looks a lot like a truck tire to me (not an expert) and I'm wondering if you think it would be a good match for a 2013 FWD Toyota RAV4.

@@CampusautoCo I went ahead and got these tires. I couldn't be happier. These tires are AMAZING. By far the very best tires I have ever had and the best I've had on my 2013 RAV4. I drove 3,000 miles within 2 weeks of getting the tires and I couldn't believe how great they were. The handling was noticeably improved even in perfect driving conditions. In one leg of the trip we drove through torrential rains. Very confidant handling. Thank for the video and advice. I greatly appreciate it.

I like your review of the Michelin Defender LTX but I decided to go with the new Nokian Outpost APT and we're about $250 a set cheaper.The tire has almost identical specs as the Michelin but has the Three Peak Snokflakes rating. The tire is a little louder the the stock Toyo touring M&S but seems to be quieting down after a few hundred miles.

I drive a 2019 Ram 1500 in FL - torn between this tire or Continental AT/BFG KO2. Primarily city driving, & boat towing. I prefer the aggressive A/T look but don’t wanna sacrifice road noise & too much fuel economy. Which would you suggest? Thanks! 275/60R/20

Id like to see a video on michelins agilis cross climate for passenger and LT's. As well as your opinion on which would be better for a heavy duty truck 2500/3500, agilis or defender, for part time towing.
@lemoncide
@lemoncide 3 жыл бұрын
The Cross Climate product line is designed with snow performance in mind. If you're in a climate where that's a serious issue, those will be the higher value option for you. But you do lose out on treadwear. Non-LT CC tires are consistently 600 treadwear rated vs 800 for the Defender LTX. So any CC tire will give you 3/4 of the treadlife of a Defender LTX. LT tires don't have posted treadwear ratings due to use case, but in my experience they perform as well as their non-LT counterparts assuming you're not pushing the boundaries of your truck's GVWR on the daily. In terms of comfort, I haven't had any complaints after putting CCs on customer vehicles. Tire Rack's testing falls right in line with that experience. The main tradeoff I see is life span vs snow performance.

I am not from the USA unfortunately.. but.. I still need some advice please.. I have a 2018 Ford Ranger 2.2 supercab/kingcab/ cab and a half.. It came standard with continental 255/70/R16. I was able to squeeze around 40K mile out of them.. I'm looking to go to Michelin's. What I can get here in South Africa are the LTX Trail ST.. Are these higher millage and great grip wet and dry? I'm not too worried about road noise but am more worried about safety and longevity.. we dont have snow like you do and I dont do off-road much, but if I do it would me a normal hard gravel road. Please could you give me your professional advice... Great videos by the way..very detailed and informative..

Balancing well is very important. It is annoying when there is a mystery vibration as it can be hard to track down the cause, and don’t need more potential causes of vibration. This is why I am hesitant about your favorite pick, the Continental TerrainContact AT. If Continental would address this issue I would buy them immediately. For now I may stick with this Michelin Defender LTX or try something new and different like Vredestein Pinza AT. One question - does the LT version of the Michelin have much different road feel vs. the P rated version? I am tempted to move up to the LT version for even better cut and puncture resistance on sharp gravel.

Do you have any videos where you have tires installed and measure actual performance on snowy and icey roads. I have a 2019 Ram that after 40K I have to replace the duelers...I'm looking for the best roadway tire for icey and snowy conditions as well as rain and dry road conditions with tread life between 70K and 90K...I have landed on the Fireston Destination LE3 thru my research,,,but I'm still getting ideas that the Defender,,,or the Bridgeston Alenza Ultra are better...Please advise with your professional perspective on this.
