I actually love these new wolf varients. Cats have multiple colors, parrots have multiple colors, horses have em too. I felt like wolves were a little plain compared to the others.

NBT crafting is a big deal! I've wanted this since 1.16 to create an MMO style data pack, let's hope it allows enchantments on the crafted item as well!

Since the results of every crafting type now supports components (old NBT), you can, of course, put enchantments on the result item. You would have to add that as an item because there's no data value for making beds of different wood types, but if you did that you could add a recipe for it now.

@@jonathanmacdonald9609 I'm saying they could add a data value. Make the bed base colourless and add colour to it depending on the planks it was crafted with. Still have the "blue bed", "red bed" as individual items but each bed also has a data value saying which planks it is.

It's more known as a painted dog than a pained wolf too, or as an African Wild Dog. In no way is it associated with wolves irl (and also behaves differently) Hyenas the same, though idk about their behavior, don't know much about em

Actually 4 of them are not 'wolves'. The pale wolf, black wolf, snowy wolf, ashen wolf, and woods wolf are all based off of different colorations or subspecies of the grey wolf. The rusty wolf is based off of a dhole, the spotted wolf is based off of an African wild dog, the striped wolf is based off of a aardwolf, and the chestnut wolf has a coat pattern only found on dogs like the Norwegian Elkhound. - An animal ecology student

@@packwolf445 The African Wild Dog is related to wolves though. Like them, it belongs to the subtribe Canina. Hyenas however, are actually closest to mongooses (including euplerids). As members of the suborder Feliformia, they are closer to cats than to canines.

Wolf variants are the only thing my niece has ever wanted since I introduced her to minecraft a couple of years ago. I was very exited to announce it to her yesterday. Now I only need they add more crops ( which I remember somewhere being mentioned might be in the next update too). Please Mojang please. I would be fun if you modded some new crops too.

the armor isnt really whats making the dogs op, Mojang increased the health pool of the dogs to 24 which is actually higher then the players which makes them extremely hard to kill now, but i will say that they also change the wolf armor so that Wolves wearing wolf armor now take no damage from damage sources that are affected by wolf armor originally wolfs just took full damage, combine that with their previous low health then even while wearing armor a creeper could just walk up and insta kill a wolf before said change happened

For whatever reason, I don't get the point of this update other than the (review) that wolves are now super tanky, and you can have new(er) variants of wolves. The reason why I'm confused is it seems like Mojang made it so you don't have to mod the game anymore to make custom crafting recipes (using normal spawn eggs at the very least). I feel like I'm a bit slow today.

I just realized something disasterous. If i update, my dog will probably change fur to the new style as i got him in a birch forest. But i want a regular old dog and i don't want to kill him but also don't want 2. I now know what politicians feel like.
