They will lose LOTS of customers because not everyone would like to buy the ULTRA version of something....but if they bought the ninja or ninja + they would feel its an old OS....Very stupid marketing move from Atomos in my opinion to say the least.

I won’t buy be buying any more external recorders

This have been their strategy for the last years. Pushing faulty equipment out with no support. Also since many of the faulty stuff is hardware and not possible to fix by firmware. Stuck with lot of faulty stuff now. Like the different Connect monitors and add on to ninja living there own life. It can not be trusted in any semi or professional environment.

Hi Chinois, Thanks for your comment, we understand your concern regarding the LUT issues and green tint. Regarding LUTs, may we ask whether you're utilizing the Legalize function on your device? Here's some info for you to consider: When do I enable Legalize? Legalize ON or OFF? All of this really depends on your post-production workflow. For SDR/Non-LOG (Cinelike D, Natural, etc.): If you're working in an application that can manually set luminance levels, such as DaVinci Resolve, set up the camera to output in FULL range and keep legalization turned off. If you are working in an application such as Premiere Pro or FCPX, where you do not have the option to define the clip attributes/luminance levels: You can choose to set the camera to output legal range and keep the Legalize function turned OFF If the camera output is fixed in FULL range and does not allow the user to adjust the range output, like with Fuji XT, you will need to turn the Legalize function ON For HDR/LOG (V-LOG, S-LOG, C-LOG, etc.): Conversion to Legal range (via the Legalize option) should NOT be applied if you work in LOG. The majority of LOG based workflows such as Sony S-LOG, Canon C-LOG, and Panasonic V-LOG all use Full range levels. As a result, the LOG signal sent out via HDMI gets recorded in Full range by the Ninja V. You can see this extended range in the Waveform of applications such as Premiere or FCPX, where the levels will extend beyond 0-100. For a Rec.709 project where you require the ability to work in Full range, you can apply a simple LUT to convert the Full range to Legal range In DaVinci Resolve, you can set the clip attributes to Full range and use the Full range of data in the clip If you require a Legal range workflow for your LOG recordings, you should NOT enable the LOG/HDR function. Leave the Ninja V in the Standard-Rec.709-Rec.709 setting and set the Legalize function to ON. With this in mind, you should then choose to use a LUT for your workflow that uses a Legal range input and output. If you apply a LUT that expects a Full range input and output, your color pipeline will not be correct. If you would like to use your camera's LOG output with AtomHDR, you will need to maintain your color pipeline as Full range to match the intended LOG workflow. Regarding the green shift, like any monitor, colors will shift naturally over time, so we recommend calibrating your device at least once a month. We partnered with Calibrite to open up professional display calibration to all filmmakers using our products with their ColorChecker Display Plus and ColorChecker Display Pro. I have been asking Atomos for the EL Zone exposure, which is very useful and better than false colors. They have now delivered, but it seems that they want to force us to spend $799 on a new Ninja ultra to get something they can easily add to the Ninja V via firmware. Honestly, if they do not add it to my Ninja V I won't be buying from them anything else.

@@maxsautner Yeah I’m using the FX6/3 also and it’s great for some applications, but even without punching in, you can see how PR Raw is more detailed where the internal codec softens everything a bit. You’ll see the difference on a 50+ inch 4K OLED. Ive been meaning to make a comparison video showing how the 240 mbps XAVC-I codec actually has much LESS chroma detail than the 100mbps XAVC-S. It’s something Sony should fix and/or provide some higher bit rates - they’re the worst in its class for bit rates. Or better yet throw some X-OCN internal raw in there. 🤤

@@AtomosChannel Those all sound like great improvements, but you haven't mentioned why the old Ninjas can't run the new OS, especially the V+. The fact that old Shoguns are getting OS 11 as a free upgrade proves there's not a hardware limitation. It's just hard not to see this as a disenfranchisement of your customer base.

If your camera has a clean HDMI output, it should function. Based on the external specifications of the camera, the resolutions and frame rates that should indeed be supported for external recording are as follows: External Recording Modes: 4:2:2 8-Bit via HDMI UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) at 23.98/25/29.97 fps 1920 x 1080p at 23.98/50/59.94 fps 1920 x 1080i at 50/59.94 fps Therefore, you should be able to connect the new Ninja with your camera. As far as the A1 it’s isn’t Atomos fault. As an A1 owner, Sony has intentionally been not updating that. Camera to avoid cannibalizing their 8k cinema line. The sensor is dual iso, got insane dynamic range 8K 24/30p and has minimal rolling shutter. if it got RAW support through a recorder it would cannibalize their cinema camera line. Which is why even the 4K output from that camera is like skipped. It’s so garbage of Sony to do so. But that’s the truth of the matter

@@RiceCubeTech I believe some are true but as I understand the HDMI chip in A1 is way more powerful than the CR5. And capable of higher bandwidth. So some is probably “blocking” by Sony. We are waiting for some real 8K monitors to get delivered soon and we will test one of the A1 if we can get some samples. We have stopped all purchases of Atomos since everything is very messed up with them lately. We were even on a pre firmware team but everything crashed and no support at all. And suddenly now they are pushing new gear instead of fixing and updating the faulty ones. I believe Canon wanted to get into the race with the customers using external monitors so i believe Canon and Atomos made an exclusive deal. Second, I don’t think actually Sony cares so much of the semi pro or more professional line competition. They have in fact the real professional cinema industry that another story.
