Thx. I had a Trail 90 at Kunsan AB, S Korea when stationed there in 1970. Bought a yellow one for $217 USD in Japan on the strip outside Yokota AB, broken down by dealer into 6 crates to fit into the door of the centerline aux pod of the F-4D to get it back to Kunsan. Spent 2 wks putting it back together in my modulux BOQ. A few parts left over, one of which was the pinion for the speedo. Put it in, got some low octane mogas from the motor pool and rode the rice patty trails for 8 mos. Never figured out what the other parts were for. A blast. Sold it to the base dentist just before DEROS who promptly crashed it. Bought another same in States for ~$450 I recall, put ~5,500 mi on it before moving up to a CM200T. Used to attach a "BobbyMac" to the luggage rack to tote around my infant kids, great pacifier! Great memories. Now that I'm old, maybe get another one to replace my HD XLX Sportster and relive the good-old-days.

that quiet muffler will not piss off neighbors or hikers! When the Honda Civic hit our shores, I called up a dealer, +before+ he was a dealer (I had a friend with Honda contacts), and wangled an order for the first Civic in our area, an orange one with the trunk, not a hatchback...man, we had fun with that little car, put 1200 miles on it the first weekend.. I also had a Honda C100 Cub, a Sport 90, C110, and on and on ;-) Have a nice Christmas, Juan!

Nice. You can see it's C50 antecedents. The original step throughs trailing link suspension won't be missed. We had a C90 on the farm here. It had everything stripped off and got left outside all winter and would still start first time on the gas in the tank. It frequently ran on no oil until it ceased up, and would restart when it cooled down. Amazing machines. Thanks Juan.

From the NTSB report: "PIC ventured into IMC around the hangars and did not maintain separation from persons and the Airport kitty cat. Although a CVR was not required equipment, numerous whoops and yells heard by witnesses indicate the PIC was preoccupied by laughter and failed to initiate the brakes. Several impact holes through hangar doors resembled a human male on a motorcycle. Crash debris included a long laundry line with clothes picked up after loss of control through neighboring backyards and one dog house. Cylinder head inspection showed signs of liquor ingestion after impacting the airport manager's file cabinet."

My first dirt bike was a Trail 90 with a cheater sprocket. My dad worked for Flying Tigers at Tachikawa AFB and I brought 3 Trail Hondas deadhead in a CL44 back when I was 15 years old. I'm 71 now. Fun bike for comfort. That slippy clutch will get u about anywhere. All u need is some knobby's and your cooking with Crisco

JB is #1 again! This brought back memories of my Trail 90. Cost $366 out the door. My dad lost a bet about the neighbor's escaped parrot coming back and true to his word he drove me down to the Honda shop and bought me a red one. That was 1966 and I was 12 years old. I could unbolt that rear sprocket and move it over, add the length of chain for the low gear in minutes in near darkness. I still have a Trail 110 with the low speed gear box in my stuff.

I like rare Honda models. Did the front forks come off via a crank on the headstock or was the frame cut and a couple custom plates welded that would be bolted together. Honda did the first style and a California company made the later.

Still riding today and plan to for many years. It’s in my blood! Thanks for this great review! Glad you managed to get it. My first bike was a Honda moped in southern Italy that I sold in Las Vegas and replaced for a safer - for LV - and faster Honda CM450 that I put 10,000 per year on. Just changed the oil every 1500-2000 miles and regular servicing. GREAT bike! Also had a milk crate on the back! Up in the air between waiting for a CT125 or getting the ADV 150 scooter to take out west and offroad next Summer, if this COVID ever goes away.

Reminds me of the Honda 50 trail bike I had back in the late sixties. High/love was accomplished by moving the chain from the small sprocket to the large sprocket on the rear wheel. No electric start, fuel gauge or turn signals. Had a lot of fun putting around Lincoln NE on that bike. Thanks for sharing.

I had both a 1967 ('ol red) and a 1973 ('ol yeller) CT90 back in Southern California. The "High-Low" range (a euphemism even in the 1960's) amounted to an extra length of chain with another master link and larger rear sprocket held over the stock sprocket with four bolts: switching out the sprocket required dismounting the rear wheel from the bike. The Four speed transmission hasn't changed since they started making them: not great shifting, not bad shifting, impossible to destroy. We swapped XR125-160(?) top ends onto the stock CT90 engine to wake them up a bit with a total of 155cc displacement, IIRC (it's been nearly 40 years). Those engines were easy to work on (once you threw the oversize Phillips case screws into the sea and replaced them with socket head bolts).

Had a Honda Trail 70 when I was a young teen. That bike was great. Then my buddy bought a Trail 90 nearly identical to the one you're showing. For years, we literally road thousands of miles through the back trails and mountains of north Georgia. We put those bikes through heck and back and they never once let us down. Nice Trail 125 , looks perfect for where you live.

I had a Trail 90 at one time. I liked the high/low feature. 15 or 20 years ago, I was looking at a cycle trader and a logger from St. Maries, Idaho had a Trail 110 for sale IN THE CRATE. As I remember, it didn't sell, he wanted too much for it. I also had a Honda CT-110 (Honda 50 street version) that we put 72 tooth trail sprockets over the existing rear sprocket that were held in place by 4 bolts.(Ya had to have a spacer for the shock on the port side so the sprocket would clear the shock) They also made a 82 tooth sprocket but it made the bike to slow. It would only go about 20mph topped out. Juan, you, Jeni, Julianne and Pete have a Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year. Ya made my day with this video. It brought back many great memories.

This is so freakin cool. As soon as you fired that thing up it brought me back to being 13-year-old when I got my first motorcycle, a ct90 that had been sitting in the woods for 15 years. My dad said as soon as I could make it run I could ride it, which is all the motivation a young teen needs. It took me a full year of working on the weekends getting all the rest out of the tank coating the tank dipping the carb learning the ins and outs of small engine and motorcycle maintenance, and it was a total blast. I'm so thrilled they're releasing this model again.

I have three CT90s: '72 and two '78s. All have the reserve tank and are 100% original. My wife, at 60 years old grew up without motorcycles and was afraid of them. I showed her how easy the 90 was to ride and how she could not hurt it and she was hooked. We now take the back l roads to breakfast (well, until C19) and seak out long scenic, slow roads. She is yet to take it on a trail yet, but she says she is open to it. I am going to wait on the new one until they come out with dual range. The 110 (followed the CT90) and came out with the same logic (no dual range). The market demanded it and after just one year, HONDA put the dual-range on the 110. So I am holding my breath. Congratulations on your epic new bike!!!

Cool! I had a 70 trail bike. I could change the sprocket for road or trail. Took it to Big Lake Arizona, my buddy had a mini bike. Our dads were fishing and we were riding through the campground and I decided to go through a water filled pot hole on the gravel road. They don’t straddle mud holes very good. I was scraped up pretty good and had to lay around camp til we came home. That was about 72-73. Was old enough to know better, young enough to not use my brain. I’m glad you were able to get one. It’ll always be a classic.

Have a '81 XR200R that my daughters and G'kids have had tons of hours of use on just can't seem to find the heart to put it down as a bit of Sochiro Honda's soul still is in it. Congrats on what may be the only new Trail 125 in CA? Cool bike. Nice change of pace in video without NTSB reports and FAA findings and such. Merry Christmas and Healthy New Year to all.

Here in Alabama no one rides that style of trail bike but I remember going to visit my grandparents in Northern California in the mountains outside of Redding and riding Trail 90's with my cousins. Fun times!

Nice score !....we had a yellow '55 Trail in the 60's and it came with an over sized rear sprocket and extra length of chain for off-road stuff and in the early '70's I had the red 90 with the high /low range selector, wish I still had it, fun stuff

Wow! A blast from the past. I have my dads old trail 90 "Suitcase" bike with the original cargo tray it goes into. He bought it because it fit in the back of his 1951 or 52' V-tail N5879C?. Its a gem with only 328 miles. He used to put around the Reno Air Races back in the early 70's.

My father fought in WW2 and was part of the u.s. occupation force. I have made in Japan chinaware that is stamped "Occupied Japan " that my father brought back in the early 60s for my mother. Its beautiful handcrafted ceramics. I was racing dirt bikes in the 70s- Ossa, Bultaco, Montessa. I'll never forget what my father told me " The Japanese are the best copiers in the world. They'll take something and spend years perfecting it" As a 16 y.o. it didn't sink in....until the Honda Elsinore was introduced to the states. Within 3 years one didnt see a Spanish bike on the circuit.

I had the good fortune to pick up a 1968 CT90 for $175 about a month ago, complete, but of course non running and no title, but those issues can be solved. Reminds me of my first bike, a 1967 Honda 50cc bike with a 4 speed transmission that I bought used in 68 for $100. For long distance touring or adventure travel, hard to beat BMW, but for smiles, hard to beat small Honda’s

Awesome bike, my buddy had the CT 90 in the 70's I had an SL 70. He used to find the deepest puddles he could and ride through them with that snorkel, worked great. He only swamped it once, through a big puddle at a construction site. I never laughed so hard watching him push it out, he used to stand on the seat, I refused to get wet. We drained the water from the box and it kicked right over. Fun stuff. We're a little (lot) more gravity challenged (weight) so 8 horsepower, (6.5 for the 70) probably won't take us up those hills like when we were younger.

Juan, the bike i should never sold was a 1982 honda mb5. It was a 50 cc 2 stroke oil injected, 5speed trans , clutch. U I used to drive it daily 40 miles. It would get about 90 to 95mpg. And top out at about 57 mph on flat level ground without a head wind. Thanks for all you do in your videos.
