Rolls has used a V12 because of the smoothness and exclusivity. You can produce more power with smaller v8's. Being an EV helps rolls customers experience the ultimate cloud ride in silence. The Spectre accomplishes what Rolls has tried to accomplish for decades. Who cares about real world figures? You might not get what the MPG spec is on their cars but the difference in efficiency exists regardless of tony's opinion. The hybrid will have better efficiency, silly. Jeez bro.

Maybe so, but an electric motor isn’t as impressive as making a v12 completely silent. It ruins the charm, yes it may be more comfortable but it’s just a lot less impressive as a feat of engineering.
@travis3810

I used to agree, but I’ve listened to Matt Farah’s podcast, TheSmokingTire, and he has a different view. Yes, going EV suits Rolls Royce the best. But on the other hand, they are already soft and quiet. Someone going from ICE to EV would see a much larger gain in comfort in something like a Hyundai or Nissan. An economy car with a less refined powertrain.

One thing, Tony a few weeks ago mentioned that dealers offering 3-month warranties are doing this incorrectly / illegally? Can you give us an update in the future on what we should be expecting and be careful of with regard to dealer warranties and whether 3rd party company warranties are worth looking at? Seems to be that most of us do not trust any warranty and are always waiting for the "sorry, that's not covered, it's wear and tear"! When I tried a Wraith Black Badge on a RR Drive & Shoot day I thought it felt quite nimble and quick for its massive size. The nearest analogy I can find is like driving a Transit van with the performance and agility of a Golf R. I Wasn't overly impressed with the quality, I think a Bentley feels much more opulent and luxurious. I also drove a dawn convertible. That's was quite pleasant but not very memorable.

The hybrid on the cayanne and panamera was taken from the 918 hyper car its primary function was to add another 100bhp to the motor for performance it is one of the only systems that has the electric motor driving the gearbox you can drive it in electric only mode has about 25 miles range and you can control mode and recharge it during the drive or charge at home - it will take you a few months to get used to driving it and how get the best mpg also the brakes 1st half of travel is recharge using the diff which again will aid mpg when you get it right

That's the spiel that they tell their customer base. I heard that it actually had more to do with the Porsche n the VW group as a whole havin to offset the carbon emissions thing, the lack thereof leadin to heavy penalties from the EU. Especially considering the fact that their diesel variants are the ones that get sold the most in the world market compared to the smaller number of high performance petrol variants like the Cayenne GTS/Turbo S/GT n the equivalent Panamera variants.
@andrewfuell3254
@andrewfuell3254 3 ай бұрын
No I have one it isn’t like any other hybrid also my cayanne has true 4wd driven via a gearbox from the central diff this is true in electic or petrol mode so it’s always 4wd which isn’t so on most hybrids and the battery boosts the petrol engine to aid overtaking and acceleration it does help the mpg if driven correctly but again you have to learn how to use it and this system Is not on any other brand car so it’s not hype and they don’t sell diesel variants and haven’t done so for many years only petrol and hybrid in cayanne and panemera and now electric in maccan

Personally I would go Porsche I had Audi previously SQ5 loved it but my experience with Porsche is just better and as I discovered you can buy a proper warrenty for any Porsche under 14 years old that passes a 111 point check - Audi don’t do this as far as I know, but I would still suggest you try both and see what you like best

Happy I have something I love, but I fear the younger generation will be turned off fun cars because of the high entry costs and Taxes

Lotus needs a Golf R/GTi rival. We know it works with the GR Yaris. Lotus needs to be smaller, lighter SUV / Hatchback size. As it is the Eletra is just too big. Tony is right, changing a vehicle's GFV is naughty. One trick a Business Manager will do when giving you the initial quote is to lower the GFV, which pushes up the payments. Then, when you negotiate, they simply put the GFV back to the correct level which reduces the payments, often considerably. Most finance platforms do not allow you to raise the GMV above what they believe to be market value as you cannot put a customer in a worse financial position at the end of the term. Think of it all as a seesaw, Payments vs GFV. The loan amount stays the same. Normally, the customer never pays attention to this little trick as they love the new lower payment. Another trick is to offer a lower initial term and then raise it to reduce payments. I wonder if one of these is what they done with you Sam?

@@Neil2022 idk, I get confused by UK terms for loans. All I know is, in general, if you have a lower monthly payment for the same car, it means you either put more money down, you have to pay it off over a longer period, or you found a lower interest rate. In any of those cases, if you want to have the lowest amount of interest, you'll want to have the highest monthly payment (and down payment) you can afford.

The coolest thing with the Rolls Royce Phantom, Wraith n even the Ghost is that you go in thinking this is an ultra heavy barge of a thing (in comparison to the Bentleys which were always marketed as a driver's car that's bathed in luxury amenities) n it ain't gonna do much apart from being extremely comfortable. But then you get on the throttle n it picks up speed in a way that really catches you off guard. I haven't gotten behind the wheel of any of the 4 door Bentleys but have done so in an EWB Phantom 7, Wraith n a few Ghosts. Funnily enough I didn't really push the Wraith but was able to flog both the Phantom n the Ghost. My first experience was in a Series ii Ghost n it picked up pace fairly quickly n I remember looking at the speedo n panicking for a second cos it read 240 KPH. The reason for panic was that you barely feel the speed inside the cabin because of how quiet it is inside n how mental its auto leveling suspension is. On the other hand, the Bentleys that I got behind were the Continental GT Speed n the SuperSports. Considering the name alone, you go in expecting it to be fast n sporty unlike the RRs. Both Bentleys also let you hear a bit of the engine notes in the cabin as well. The SuperSports that I drove had either a Supersprint or Quick Silver exhaust system. So it really added to the theatre n you knew exactly what the cars doin because of the throaty rumbling whereas its literally pin drop silence in the Rolls. Even in their _sporty_ Wraith, you just barely hear engine sounds. But I heard that in the Black Badge Wraith n Ghost they let you hear a lil more of the engine sounds.

I saw my first Electra on the road this week, doesn't interest me in the slightest. Emira is still a headturner, I would love to own one.

I’m just going to say it: Porsche has lost their way. From the buying “experience”, to the questionable quality of modern cars, to the cost of ownership, Porsche has lost sight of what made them such a relative value. The future will be interesting for Porsche.

A general question for all you petrol heads. When speaking on ev’s i keep hearing that “they don’t have any soul” so what should an ev have that would make you as a petrolhead consider owning one?

We have a berling diesel van and a hyundai kona EV not sure the berlingo (19 plate) has a soul, but the kona (24 plate) has auto regen or 1 pedal driving or 3 levels of regen (from max to none) using paddles behind the wheel. So I find it satisfying to use the paddles to alter regen to suite the road/ traffic.

@@brianiswrong So it’s potentially about a level of engagement with the car?

@@Uchejnr To my mind,yes The speed (be it mild or fast ) is silent. The cornering ability is (because of the weight lower down ) the equal if not ahead of its ice counter part, the tech is, as a rule of thumb slightly better (ie our kona has a head up display,which the ice kona of the same trim level doesnt) So for me it's how you engage with the car,because the car gives you very little on its own.

I can picture the guy owning his EV Roller turning up to the motorway chargers, having to spend an hour cueing and having a bad sandwich in the petrol station for 45 minutes. Jokes. Doomed from day one.

Range Rover cant make a ICE car do 500 miles before they break down, so you have no chance with an EV.
