I don't like that they removed transitions and interpretation in the PCS score. Skaters like Hanyu who put a lot of effort into making their jumps look aesthetically pleasing will get even less points for doing so now although it makes jumps and choreo more difficult and more enjoyable to watch for viewers. Transitions should be valued more and not less, this is ridiculous

I think they should balance artistic and technical elements better - now it's is reversed. Why not create a separate competition just for jumping (which is really "part of" the figure skating. It's not the whole thing!!). Now a lot skater just do 2 feet skating/cross over all the time to save energy to their big jumps. That's why a lot audience felt boring in between jumps. Now they even remove music interpretation/transitions - a lot people still preferred to see "depth"/"soul"/"emotion"/stories in these programs, now only mechanical elements left.

Transitions already affected the technical elements score via GOE anyway. It never made sense to me why transitions is part of artistic scores. Eteri girls have a gazilion transitions that were even more difficult vs. hanyus like Zagitova's spiral into double axel yet no one thinks any of the eteri girls are particularly artistic. Also, transitions are the favourite topic of hanyu fans and its getting really old really fast. Yuzu's transitions are not that special in his long programs.

@@jamesyu5212 yeah I agree on this point, people love to complain about eteri programs but also complain about “empty” programs with no transitions. Before Eteri the womens’ programs were all quote on quote “empty” and they’d only put interesting transitions on 2A

@@jamesyu5212 A gazillion transitions with poor ice coverage, edges and general skating skills to boot. The question of quality is what is missing in you argument. It's really frustrating that there is even comparisons like this like it's apples to apples. Like as far as they did a "quad" it's the same thing as the men's. Junior skaters can still jump quads in their programs so nothing will get better. The pressure of junior competitions will get more and skaters are going to try hard to be able to land quad just to get an assignment in international competitions and will sadly retire at 13/14 since ISU didn’t make more competitions for junior level.

I personally like the idea for increasing the age limit for adults category. Also, I never understood why the age limit for adult in single figure skating is low (like you can compete as an adult at age 15), but for ice dance is much higher (like you are still considered as junior even when you are 20+)
@Plaspos
@Plaspos 2 жыл бұрын
singles skating you are still junior eligible through age 19 (same with women in ice dance and pairs). People only stayed junior in ice dance longer because the top senior teams stay around for longer and there's less opportunities for new seniors.
@toxic-low-key-ghost7934
@toxic-low-key-ghost7934 2 жыл бұрын
Ice dance and pairs teams just stay in juniors longer because you really need to develop your skills and partner work. In singles now, the younger you are the more jumps you can do the better, but in pairs and ice dance, where all the top teams are in their mid to late 20s and have years and years of skating experience with their partners, being 15 won’t help so they are held back to take more time to really develop. Especially since most pairs and ice dance teams are formed when both partners are around 12-15, very few start so young anymore so there will be no chance of a fresh new team competing in seniors against 20-26 year olds who have been ice dancing/ pairs skating for years

The higher age limit for ice dance applies to male skaters, not female ones... it’s because you really wouldn’t want an eighteen year old male picking up an eighteen year old female on ice traveling at high speeds.

I felt very disappointed about recent figure skating rule changes passed by ISU! I wonder 1) Could ISU consider to create a separate competition for jumping and keep the traditional figure skating - which is balance between artistic and technical elements? The new competition may name ice jumping or ice gymnastic. 2) Could ISU penalize pre-rotation? It's no point to reward whole bunch of non-qualified quads! What it should do is: reward "real"/qualified quads! Same, call for non-proper usage of blade/top pick. 3) Could ISU get retired figure skater to be the judges - a lot criticism has results from inadequate technical knowledge of the judges.
@Plaspos
@Plaspos 2 жыл бұрын
1) I think this is a fantastic idea in every way 2) no because there is no definition of what is acceptable prerotation. Alysa fans say greater than 270 for lutz, Kamila fans say greater than 180, Anna fans say up to 180, Trusova fans say less than 180, Yuna fans say less than 90, Yuzu fans say 0. Even for the loop many fans incorrectly think that it's impossible to do with less than 180 degrees prerotation when in fact Sofia Muravieva has shown loop with about 60 degrees prerotation. Yeonjeong Park has shown a toeloop with near-0 prerotation, so by that standard should Yuna's famous 3Lz-3T be penalized because the 3T has more prerotation? Same with improper toe picking, some say Medvedeva has it, some say Medvedeva doesn't but Valieva does, some say Valieva's doesn't but Khromykh does, some say Khromykh doesn't but Kvitelashvili does, some say even Kvitelashvili doesn't. There's no consistency. Technique is a lot more than full blade assist and prerotation. Kaori prerotates while Veronika Zhilina doesn't but Kaori's technique is much more sustainable. 3) Yes I love this idea

Prerotation was ALWAYS unlimited! It is a part of the jump!. Even your "saint Yuna" has that usual 180° of prerotation on all her other jumps beside that 3Lz! I think ironically some of the changes are unfair to current skaters but the impact on the sport are very different: Raising the age limit is going to be unfair for skaters like Sofia, who are already trained to be fully prepared to enter seniors when suddenly the age limit is imposed. Indeed it is unfair to them, but the effect of that age limit will be beneficial to all future skaters because they will actually be given the time to polish their basic skills before rushing into seniors. BUT Reducing the PCS to 3 is an unfair change not only because it is unfair to skaters like yuzuru hanyu, who spent so much time polishing their craft, but it has no long term benefit to the sport at all. Unless someone can kindly explain how reducing those elements actually benefit the sport and encourage skaters to take on more difficult challenges without attempting dangerous elements. I see no actual benefit in reducing the PCS to 3 when in fact transitions and interpretation are individually different and are crucial in their own right. Try imagining a program with no transitions or interpretation! It will look awful.

Many skaters such as hanyu and trusova (i like her artistry, fite me) are there working their a** off to create a piece that just not talk about the JUMPS and their values but also creating stories with all of them. 2. without those interpretation and transitions, i am very sorry but it will be just be a very bland sport. 3. I$U focusing on the jump sequence is good too but again, increasing the BV of each jump will also decrease the artistic level of the athlete's program (based on my observation and understanding), they should also increase the value of the transitions and not remove it :') 4. removing the step sequence is another wtf, what's the point of the jumps if u do not look at how the athlete will executing the jumps, whether it be a spread eagle or rockers, etc., because those still gives depth on how the skater will fully execute their jumps in and out. that's all :') can someone please please PLEASE, fix I$U :')

@@Jeremy-wp4yh Daria and Anna will recover, they will probably have the whole season for recover because politics need to be mixed with sports like always and Kamila is not a druggie, she is the best in the world at the moment either you like it or not... and even if they gave her something she would still be the best without that so called drug

Well none of them are skating internationally soon anyway. But Kamila's suspension for the doping test is very unlikely to last more than a year at most retroactively to last December. I would predict that whatever suspension she gets will finish before the Russian ban is removed. She will probably compete in the fall in the domestic events. Anna is no more injured than she was at the Olympics. Daria has returned to ice and will have all her triples back in the fall. Maya Khromykh is also around as is Adelia Petrosyan who will be in seniors. Akatieva is the first Eteri skater to be affected by the new age rules. If anything Sasha is the one who might be taking a break from competitive skating.

Remove transitions: 👏👏👏👏 it will set us free of random leg kicks, leg extensions or spirals lasting 0,01 seconds. Remove Interpretation: 👏👏👏👏it will set us free of weird faces or exaggerated arm moments or sorrowful expressions, specially from pre-pubescent girls that actually look constipated…

They removed transitions and interpretation to favor more jumping and obviously boost American athletes once again ruining the artistic side of figure skating

I'm so super tired for these totally incompetent and sooo very bad and biased judges that I who really love FS stopped totally to watch to all what ISU shows when Yuzuru retired! The all ISU wifes qualify to judgeship and it's totally under the line today! So retired figure skaters to due honor and they must be the referees in the every competition if ISU intends to survive att all! It's no more than very,very right that Yuzuru Hanyu is the judge in the future competitions! He knows what is a real figure skating and he is honest! He is a person who have no one as "a lap dog" in advance in the FS but everyone gets a fair review! I'm sure that the audience also wants to come back and throw a Pooh Shower on the Ice on honor of such an Awesome Super Judge! 😊😅🎉❤🫶🏽🙏🏽
