I told this story before but I had my channel reviewed by Dan and them when I had 500-600 subs I forgot the exact number. Literally almost a year ago to this date. The advice they told me was to get better at storytelling because everything else was super unique compared to other channels. I took the advice and instead of making random funny gaming animations I changed it to funny longer animations with a written story instead. That advice got me 350K subs 12 months later right now. Full Time KZfaqr now and just a year ago i was unemployed coming off a job washing dishes in a supermarket. Don't matter age or anything, anyone can make it.

Probably the way it was put together, the editing. There are frequent sound effects, frame changes and music changes, video basically has adhd. It is difficult to maintain such energy over a long video, also people, who watch adhd videos, may not necessarily be able to stick throguh something longer and less energetic.

Amazing video, you earned a sub! Even though I don't consider myself a beginner anymore, I still remember getting started. It was a tough journey. Of course, things are a lot easier now and I'm super grateful that I didn't give up and stayed patient all the way through. Hard work and strong will (I had to use a little bit of famester as well, but I don't regret it honestly) is the key for growing your channel, and it always pay off at the end.

This really spoke to me because most people giving KZfaq advice are people who have only grown a following by saying they can help you grow a following or from old KZfaqrs who are disconnected from how it is growing a channel recently. I have 13 years of learning KZfaq and spent thousand of dollars on courses from people like Sean cannell and I’m still not able to go full time on KZfaq

"just start" i enjoyed this video so much - relatable on so many levels. Inspiring. my confidence never stays around for long, but it is much better than it used to be, i had the courage to start again, had a few hiccups with fear and zero confidence. i am so glad to have found this VidIQ community, you are all so helpful - sometimes kind ;) and just want to share your ideas. i am testing mainly myself, recording things that i find interesting, to build my confidence to be able to create what i ultimately would like to try - wildlife documentaries, and chats about wildlife stuff.... i made a tiny start, in that my vids are showing how to learn about wildlife and some gear too, slowly SLOWLY. VidIQ gang I appreciate you and the community you have built :)

Editing. A skill derived from understanding the software. Having the software. Spending about 6 months learning how to do the various things THEN spending the rest of your life knowing when something is useful or just jangly frills. True editing skill comes from learning less is more. In this video the presenter had a nice presence and tone. He could have probably been more effective with minimal editing here. But he was showing off. So it's understandable

You guys are geniuses for hiring that man. John is on point and I live so many things he said. Storytelling is at the center of what I do and I emulated many creators and compiled styles to create what has become my own. I started my KZfaq channel like three years ago and it languished, so I stopped posting. But just three weeks ago one video that has been on the channel for a while took off and lifted several others. Subscribers started pouring in and responded to the storytelling. I gained over 13,000 subs in just three weeks and was monetized in a flash. VidIQ has been a go to channel for me and this video is among the best I've seen of all the vids I've watched so far. As I'm growing,, this channel continues to educate and inspire me.

thanks man, this is really what I needed, this video had a lot of the best advice about youtube that I ever heard. It is so hard to keep posting videos when your not getting any subscribers 😡. But I do have a question, how many subscribers did you have after a month of creating? And I have always loved the little ammount of editing that I can do, but like you, I want to learn more. I am good with computers, I just want to learn to use the ability that I have, anyway, I love the editing in this video 😉. Great job and good luck!

1 month in I had less than 10 I know that.. In my head I figured if I make several videos, it will build a catalogue and when subscribers DO finally come, they will have videos to watch! Little did I know, what I was really doing was just improving like crazy with each video and that's what really started to get attention.

Loved the video! Incredibly Inspiring story for someone that's literally started a channel 4 days ago! That's a great note to end tonight's session of 'how to for KZfaq channel building' bender 🤩 Also loved Malcolm in the Middle 😅

Hi John! Love the video! I've got VidIQ Boost, and have been looking at upgrading to MAX, but just can't afford it right now, so I'm taking advantage of everything that Boost has to offer until I can afford to upgrade. Absolutely LOVE the 2nd half of the video as well! So much good advice!

Love this video. I wish I saw this vieeo before starting my KZfaq journey. I started making KZfaq videos 7.5 years ago. Tried a fancier editing program, got stuck, started second guessing myself. I got lost trying to get better, and randomly uploaded for 5 years...until i needed a distraction so I started uploading 2.5 years ago. Point is, dont wait, start uploading. Some people catch on sooner then others. But the sooner you start, the sooner you'll start figuring it out.

Very inspiring. Great points I strive to share with my audience. I remember Ira Glass talking about the crap gap -that's where most creators lose hope and focus. So just keep experimenting with new tools or a new perspective and you'll finally discover your own winning trifecta.

That was a really good, down-to-earth, and honest advice. You really made the goal of starting a KZfaq channel so reachable. Thank you. (And also left me thinking 'All those amazing transitions...How does he do it? ' 😀 But thank you for the message. Most encouraging 🏆

The editing is incredible and the talent really shines through! However i think that when it comes to editing like this, the audience may split. personally it was so overwhelming to watch and follow what was being said because i felt bombarded by all the effects 😹 i could follow for the first 5 minutes or so, but then everything was a bit much and i felt out of breath by the end hahaha. the youtubers i watch make edits but not to this extent (not even Kurtis Conner goes this hard lmao). while i want to keep my audience engaged in what i have to say, i don’t want to attack them with 5 different things happening in a span of 1 minute, whether it’s visually or with audio. idk how many people prefer this type of editing but it’s important to keep in mind who you want to appeal to. most commentary channels have minimal editing, or two/three things happening at once, while still having an engaged audience. i guess that’s where my audience lies as well. :) target audience is key! still, congratulations to you & your skills have gotten you so far as to work with VidIQ! The talent is extraordinary, for real! So good job and keep at it !

Thank you for this video, I have been doing the KZfaq thing on and off years, I get motivated and ready and put out a bunch of content and nothing happens and then I disappear again.. I've tried using everything I know from my day job as a motion designer and video editor to using bare minimum too. There's just something in the process that I'm not understanding somewhere and I can't figure out what that is either.. I think it's worth noting that doing it on your own is really difficult, especially when you're a much slower learner than others. I'd love to connect with a community of creators that are helping each other out but I can't afford getting through the month let alone have the disposable income for expert advice.. it gets hard sometimes, really really hard, to keep myself going.
