I picked up this book without knowing much about it and the lady from the bookstore told me it was a beautiful story. I thought "Right, she's supposed to say that." But boy was I wrong. One of the most gorgeous atmospheres I've ever read about!

That scene where isopelle opened her eyes and she was in the woods “but to the people of the streets of London, they look like any other pair of lovers” is the most visceral thing I’ve ever read.

The only problem I have with the book is that the way their relationship development was skimmed over a little bit. But I totally agree that it has the most real characters.
@fantasticbeck3938
@fantasticbeck3938 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree. We see that they really love each other, but we don't really see many quiet moments between the two of them. Maybe that's the point, because they really only get to have stolen moments with each other. But to me it feels... not exactly like insta-love, since the novel takes place over such a long period of time, but something like it. Their love for each other develops really fast and we don't get to see a lot of them just getting to know each other.

I kind of agree with you. I mean Marco and Celia's relationship was okay and I didn't mind it, but it felt like it was lacking development. I loved the sections with characters like Tsukiko and Bailey and learning how they played into things

I'm so sad. I really wanted to love this book. And I was disappointed. I loved the magical atmosphere of the book. The writing wasn't bad at all. The characters, some were good some were not. But there was no meat to the plot. Why is everything happening? Why is there competition? why is it important? What happens if they decide not to let anyone win, The previous competition went on for thirty-something years .. Why they couldn't stay together and live without creating dramas that would cause their deaths. There are so many holes in this book. Simple unanswered questions. Which is so sad. Because I really wanted to love this book. In a brighter note... I really like your channel❤

Exactly. I really went with my hopes high but it just fell off, I guess. Celia and Marco's relationship is one of the lamest I have read and also Marco is an asshole (poor Isobelle). Also I was expecting Widget to narrate the whole story ,why everything was happening in the end . I absolutely loved the atmosphere, theme and writing style but it could have been done better Also I love Tsukiko,Poppet,Widget,Bailey and Isobelle . No offense to anyone who likes it. Also I know I am replying late but I just wanted to.

I kinda felt the same way. I enjoyed the book A LOT. loved the writing, loved the atmosphere, it was beautiful. But for the actual story, i feel like a lot could have went differently. I was hoping bailey and poppet/Lainie and Ethans story would get more developed. I liked Marco and Celia but I wasn't very invested in their love story, I felt like more couldve been done to make their story more exciting.

I only had one problem with the book. Literally only one. Unfortunately that one problem happens to be Marco. I found him to be an insufferable asshole. The way he treated Isabelle was just...atrocious. So because I didn't like Marco I wasn't a huge fan of the romance. Celia was too good for him. The setting was frealing finominal though, the circus was absolutely my favorite character lol.

I know I’m really late to this convo but I am almost done with this book and I completely agree about Marco. The setting and concept of this books is great but Freaking marco ruins it. Celia is wayyyyyy too good for him and I find the way he treats Celia to be very cheesy and I think that is why I cannot get fully behind this book.

palmtrees101 I’m really glad someone agrees with me. Marco got me very mad because I felt like this was supposed to be one of my favorite books and the setting and plot were overall very good. I even liked the sinister overtones about the circus but Marco got me pissed. Also I feel like they skipped from them not having any interaction to them being in love. In my opinion the romance didn’t seem too developed though I still really liked the book.

I wish it had a whole series dedicated to it, explaining all the loopholes the whole mechanisms of how the magic worked, the relation between Alexander and Prospero, more history on Tsukiko's par etc etc etc. But, then again, for me all of the unanswered questions add to the mystery and that magical atmosphere, kinda like a world that I was introduced to but could never fully understand, that makes it a bit beautiful and tragic

I found your channel about half a year ago and now I have finally managed to read this book. I just finished it and had to come straight back to this video and say Thank You! I really loved this book. The atmosphere is amazing! Yes, the story is rather slow but I did not mind at all because it gives so much more time to get to know the circus and the people in it. The concept of the circus is absolutely unique and I could see it all in my mind, all the tents, the bonfire in the courtyard and all of this under a starry night sky. If this place was real I would be a rêveur. But since that is sadly not the case I will instead reread this incredible book to enter once again Le Cirque des Rêves.

Even though I’m a second-language learner, the enigmatic ambience the author creates is out of this world, I particularly enjoy her descriptions of all the smell of food and leaves.But the most impressive part for me is when Tsukiko said that her lover smells like ginger and cream, I suddenly remember several chapters before the description of the her room scent was also ginger and cream! It literally gives me goose bumps! I thoroughly adore these details and foreshadowing:) BTW you are so sweet and cute

Am I weird? Idk. I just didn’t have a strong connection to Celia but I loved poppet. Here’s me coming to this video two years after you’ve posted it but I’m currently in the middle of it and wow. Just wow. It’s incredible. Honestly, I’m taking my time with it because I don’t want to finish it! But there’s one scene in the book that is staying with me because I believe it’s the most realest thing I’ve ever imagined and that’s when Celia stabs herself with a dagger in the game room of Chandresh’s house. I could literally see the straight face she had when she did that and I saw the healing of her wound take place in my mind and I was stunned and amazed and had chills all at the same time ? Like wow it was so special . It was really like it was taking place right in front of me. I don’t know why that scene stuck with me so much but I gasped when I read that because it felt so real. Anyways there’s so many scenes in this book that are just mesmerizing and this book is really just one of a kind.

I finished this book three days ago and I liked it a lot. It isn't my favorite, because I had a problem with the pacing. It jumps around a lot and I lost track of what happens when and what didn't happen yet even if I read it happen. You know the thing with Tara... I was confused two chapters later and had to remind myself about the time jumps. But that's the only "bad" thing I can come up with right now, because it was so good. I never read romances because it's often really cringy, but this one is so well written! Even though Marco is a bit of an asshole... I never read a book that was able to keep me interested without telling me exactly what will happen. I didn't know what was going on until maybe I was 70% trough this book and it hit me so hard! I was so upset I couldn't talk about it. I literally read their lifes happening and than this turn! Oh my God! I gave it a 4 out of 5.

I actually did wish it was more flowery, but thats because im a sucker for pretty descriptions (my favorite book is the book thief) i thought how everything wrapped up was pretty clever. i didnt get what bailey had to do with anything until the end. i quite liked celia and marcos relationship :)

Rereading this book for the fifth time and came across this. I felt exactly the same way after I first read it. So incredible, still haven't found anything like it. Waiting for her to write another. Have you read any of her Flax Golden Tales? So short yet such atmosphere.

I’m only quarter of the way through and already am so intrigued with this book, I can tell it will become one of my favourites as well. I read a lot of thrillers and crime but also love very magical books as well, I mean Harry Potter is and always will be my favourite series! 😂❤️

Thank you SO much for introducing "The night Circus" to me. I picked up a book after God knows how many years and I told myself I would only read a few pages but I ended up practically living inside them. I love it SO much. I just finished reading it and I miss all the characters. I miss the Circus the most!

Found your channel about a week ago and decided to go to the very beginning, because I hope to make a booktube soon as well, so I wanted to do some research. Then I found this video. This book is honestly the only book that I can call my "favorite" book. I have read it 4 times, and I even bought Erin Morgenstern's new book The Starless Sea as soon as it was released because I was SO excited to read another book of hers again. I definitely recommend reading that book if you love Erin Morgenstern as much as I do. It is definitely a lot to take in and is kind of all over the place, but man... it's incredibly written. So.... hello! Sorry to delve so deep into past videos and post such a long comment XD

couldn’t have said it better myself. the moment i finished the book i had to just sit and process everything that had just happened whilst my mind was utter mush. i have never felt so connected to a set of characters in my life. i was and am still in awe over everything that happened throughout the plot. the romance is everything i could ever want and more within a novel. i typically read YA books, so the thought of this book was slightly nerve wracking for me. picking it up was the best decision i have ever made. i can’t wait to read it over and over again until i have memorized each and every line :)
