The Notebook Deleted Scene - Read It To Me (2004) - Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams Movie HD
The movie focuses on an old man reading a story to an old woman in a nursing home. The story he reads follows two young lovers named Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun, who meet one evening at a carnival. But they are separated by Allie's parents who disapprove of Noah's unwealthy family, and move Allie away. After waiting for Noah to write her for several years, Allie meets and gets engaged to a handsome young soldier named Lon. Allie, then, with her love for Noah still alive, stops by Noah's 200-year-old home that he restored for her, "to see if he's okay". It is evident that they still have feelings for each other, and Allie has to choose between her fiancé and her first love.

Im siding with the directors on this. Not knowing that Duke was Noah and that granny was Allie made the movie that much better. It created a better story when you had to connect the dots on your own. I appreciate the directors respecting the audience's intelligence here.

I’m pretty sure this scene is supposed to come after we know who they are/Allie remembering and then freaking out. That’s why the dr is checking on Noah and talking about the disease causing patients to get scared at night a lot. You can also tell by the way Noah talks about how that was the first time she had remembered him in months, and also he collapses in this scene and in the movie, he is unresponsive and being rushed away as he’s not well the night after Allie remembers. I personally think this one was a good one to leave in, it’s the scene where Duke/Noah is telling the dr that she remembers when he reads to her and her playing that same tune on the piano that makes it so obvious who they are, even though it’s a really sweet one!

Watched The Notebook over and over and over again maybe 16+ times and will more than likely watch it many times more. But what I couldn't piece together is why Nick Cassavetes or casting didn't make Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling made up to look older. Makeup and hair would've worked. Why Garner and Rowlands? Oh btw Gena Rowlands is Cassavetes' wife in real life.

At the end of the movie they show a note Allie left inside the book it says “read it to me when I can’t remember”. You need to learn to fully and correctly watch a movie. It does make sense because it explains it you just don’t pay attention

It wasn't until close to the end of the movie that I even realized that the narrator and the old lady were actually Allie and Noah. Also there was a time when you didn't know whether Allie was going to come back to Noah or go ahead and marry the rich guy. But I think they must have had many happy years of marriage before she started getting the Alzheimer's, because they raised children together and had grandchildren. But once she forgot who he and the children were, it was like losing her again just like he did in his youth.

I had doubts that they were actually Noah and Allie Like the stories matched so much and it made sense.But at the ending when she forgets him again and panics and Noah is left their crying,it broke my heart.

I knew he was reading to remind her of who she was. The children visit in the movie and I think he introduced them as his children, but spoke to them away from her and they called her mom or something. Not sure how anyone could be surprised that the old pair is anyone other than Noah and Allie

To people saying that this scene should've been in the movie cause it shows that Allie wrote the book- there was already a scene where in the front of the book it said 'Read this to me to help me remember,' indicating that Allie definitely wrote the book. But apparently a lot of people didn't catch that, or even realized that the old couple is Noah and Allie?? Also, I feel like there were many signs that Allie wrote the book throughout the movie.

It had already showed that when her memory comes back it only lasts a few minutes so by the time he crawled in bed with her she would have started freaking out and they would not have just went to sleep and died together so what happened is he saved up several of his strong heart pills by missing a dose here and there by letting the pill go under his tongue and pretending to swallow it at the medication window.And while she was all there they both agreed to pop the pills and check out together.He had planed to do it when they had the romantic dinner and thats why she made reference to all his pills which he should not have had because all medication was distributed at the medication window.He was not able to carry out his plan at the dinner because when her memory came back this time it did not stay as long as he had hoped but he was persistent and finally was able to carry out his plan. You can't think of it as bad for what he did because it had got to the point where her memory coming back was less frequent and was staying for less time when it did come back and he knew when it stoped coming back she would be off limits to him and she as well as him would soon die away from each other. Once you know the whole story the ending makes sense but there were several reason why they could not write the details in but left it to the audience to figure it out but a lot of people never caught the slight hints and to this day have never understood the ending as it really happened.

This is just a movie afterall. In reality, doctor doesnt want to spend alot of time with their patients, or cant afford to with their time restriction. Sometimes the patient is not yet finish talking and the doctor already prescribing medication or writing referral for other specialist.

@@tatyanaharmon7566 It was in the version I initially saw when the movie was first released on DVD years ago, but when I re-watched it in 2022 on TV it wasn't. The ending on TV did show them passing away together, and I have been told there is a version with birds flying over a pond instead of that scene. How many versions are there?
