14:10 I noticed that it said "Slot Radio" on the Sansa. The reason the music isn't showing up is because people could buy Slot Radio cards (what I assume is inside the player) which would play randomly, but couldn't be ripped to a PC for licensing reasons. These cards would have hundreds of similar songs on them, making them a pretty good value if you wanted a shuffle.

My mp3 player growing up was a black sansa fuze just like the one in this video, It was my birthday present in 2008 and I used it until probably 2012-13. Holy nugget! I had the “Discman” version of that Panasonic device. It opened in a very strange way (like sliding outward before you popped the lid up). It was part of the Shockwave line. You could shake the hell out of that CD player and it absolutely refused to skip. So many memories of traveling with that thing. Thanks for bringing back some memories in a weird way…

The RCA one is some OG nugget. Add your own AAA, mini usb, sd card slot, like in the good old days. the iriver is already a gen newer, switched over to microsd but still mini usb and running on a replaceable phone battery. All the sansa needs is some alcohol wipes to completely remove the coating and then install rockbox and it's still a great player today.

I had the first broken nugget, but it was branded as a "CODY", that baby took me through middle and high school with much pain, until i got to college and bought myself a phone. I remember learning audacity and merging whole albums into a single track so i can have "seamless transition" between the songs, since that thing stopped for a solid 1.5 seconds before moving to the next song

The Lyra was my first ever mp3. A robust 512 megs of storage and every time I put songs on it'd put them in random order so you'd have to memorize where your favorites were
