The Ocean Claims Yet Another House In Rodanthe NC

Strong winds and rough waves have taken another house into the ocean. Years ago when these homes were built the ocean was about a football field away, But as a barrier island does it migrates. At the 3:30 mark I got low and close enough to see inside the house. At about the 4:15 mark I went a little up the beach to see a couple other homes that are in peril.

What's amazing to me is not that the ocean has claimed another home. The island has been moving forever. It's that there are still realtor For Rent signs on the other homes. Thank you for sharing these reminders of nature's power.

Nature is awe inspiring and always wins. Every time I see one of these houses surrender, I can only imagine all the happy times and restful getaways they've witnessed through the decades. Thanks so much for sharing your work with us!

Wow. Those houses used to have 100 yards of sand and dunes in front of them in the 1980s.

That's the nature of a Barrier Island. It's nothing but sand and it moves at it's own will.

There have been several comments regarding a house called the Black Pearl in Rodanthe I wish that those commenting knew the facts and would stop assuming things and then.posting inaccurate info.... #1. That house is not abando ed...2 mind you not 1, house movers took the contract then last minuted backed out for easier jobs and believe this or not, the last company had a written contrat.... #2. That house is NOT hooked to power.... #3. The plan, as it has been for the entire past year, was to move it. After waiting for 3 months for a company that agreed to move yet canceled last minute and then waiting another 3 months on written contract a company back out and actually was on another job when supposed to be moving it... So, please, if you care to write or send video info out make sure you have the FACTS😅 thank you

These home owners can afford the loss. 🤣 I know a couple cottage owners. Some have 4 or 5 beach homes plus 2 homes in Virgina's subs. So don't worry they have lots of cash.

How far inland is the ground sand? Where does rock or more consolidated ground appear?

Seriously, once the house gets to this point, why is it allowed to be washed away like this with little regard for the dangers and the waste? Boards with nails and kids playing in the surf?

Insurance companies won't pay till the house falls in the ocean

Why are these houses still standing? They should have been torn down long time ago!! Why let all this debri wash into the ocean. Make the owners pay for the removal before this happens.

the insurance companies are being insurance companies and won't allow them to be demolished, they have to actually fall into the ocean. it's BS. it makes the beaches an eyesore and also rather dangerous
