The MIP award isn’t for the most “surprising” improvement, it’s for the biggest improvement. So if a guy wins rookie of the year and then the next year is a superstar and the gap between the player he was last year and the one he is this year is the largest, then he deserves the award. It doesn’t matter if everyone expects the improvement. As long as the magnitude of the improvement is the biggest then that player deserves the award.

JJJ is a good defender but I don’t see him as a DPOY, even last year. He can block shots but usually has to make up ground to do so cause he got beat off the dribble/move. Also, in my opinion, defense is about on ball as well as defensive rebounding, and he’s not good at either.

I think the fact that no one is used to Wemby yet, there are no extensive breakdowns and schemes, I could see him winning DPOY if he continues and grows on his PreSeason performance. I think ROTY is the more realistic option, baring unforeseen roadblocks like injury. I could see the spurs in a surprise low 30’s range, 33-34 maybe. I definitely don’t see them over 35-36 even in best case scenario. I think Wemby will walk into next season as a serious threat. Nonsense. I knew Nuggets would win way before they were favorites according to betting companies. In the NBA finals I distinctly remember thinking "Nuggets can beat them at a 3:2 ratio in Miami" and the betting companies' offers were claiming otherwise, then they change their odds to accomodate what I said. That being said, don't try to beat them or get good enough to beat them as it is an unproductive ability and you will not be able to consistently know better than them. I am not just talking about luck, you can't consistently calculate better odds than them.
