I find it's always best to pair these older graphics cards with monitors that are 1366x768 native and not to use 1080p or higher resolution monitors. That way the 720p settings look a little better due to pixel density.

You make a good, and sadly, often overlooked point regarding displays. People assume bigger is better, and that faster refresh is important. It is for the latest and greatest games and tech that can take advantage, but not for older games or old tech that can't.

It's really interesting with the more "off the cuff" commentary rather than the more polished script you usually use. It's great to see your thinking in real time about what settings to use, and the honest surprise to the card's performance. Good video. Been using this card ever since it first released back in 2015. I wouldn't ever recommend anyone picking it up now, and I only just recently did somewhat of an upgrade to the R9 380. That being said, the card holds up surprisingly well. Don't ever expect it to run any newer games, say 2019 and upwards, but for games from around its time, at low settings it can produce a decent framerate, and responds really well to overclocking.

@@Bdot888 I got my friends used 280X to play Dragon Age Inquisition and it felt very powerful at the time. It was far from my first PC though. That one has a Radeon 9600PRO 64MB. Interestingly I just learned that the 380 is not a rebadged 280 which was a rebadged 7970 like I always thought. The 370 has the same GCN1 as the 270 but the 380 uses the much newer GCN3. Seems based on the 285 rather than the 280X. Back in the day the 285 and 380 was weaker than the 280X but it might have held up better today thanks to real DX12 support.

I have an RX 470 4GB card, and I recently installed Hogwarts Legacy. I can tell you, FSR saves the day. In the beginning of the game it ran the shader config, ran a quick benchmark and used the recommended settings. It certainly looks like mud for me a lot of times, but if I wait and stand in one place for a few seconds, the textures are loading up properly and it looks incredible. It's true that I've installed it on a 75% health HDD (wih quite a few bad sectors) instead of SSD and I can clearly see that sometimes that's contributing to slower loading assets. All in all, if it was not for FSR, I wouldn't be able to play the game, and I was a huge Harry Potter fan in my childhood, and since I've avoided all spoilers before, didn't see any videos, didn't know what to expect, and I can tell, I'm in love with the game. I started playing at 7PM to see what it looks like, the next moment I checked the clock, it was 3AM 😁

The Witcher 3 suffers from an issue called "shader compilation stutter" where it basically compiles shaders in real time as the game is running. This is, to my knowledge, entirely dependent on the CPU and even a 13900K shows stutters in these games. This is only something that can be fixed by the developers with something like a long shader compilation on the first game launch. Also you forgot Doom Eternal 😀.

The 750Ti is just better supported by games apparently and drivers has been really iffy most of its life. It was supposedly a bit worse than the GTX 750ti while its brother the HD 7850/r7 265/r7/r9 370 was a bit faster than the 750ti but with higher power consumption I have the exact same board design on an HP GTX 1050. It's a slight irony that the"green team's" card has a red PCB. It has the same display outputs with the only difference that the DVI port is DVI-D and not DVI-I. If you search online for hp GTX 1050 you will see the similarity

You had the VRAM maxed out almost at all the games. The card is capable of a stable 30fps, but with a little more of memory available

When benchmarking (assuming Riva/AB) how does your loading and deaths not affect the 0.1% - I benched marked SotTR and got a decent framerate etc but the 0.1% starts high near 10FPS (avg 60//min 1/max 62/1% 50/0.1% 2.9) every time I pause to view an object it lows the FPS but the gameplay is smooth.

Wow.. So what cpu is this best paired with and what should one pay for this card? Always looking for an affordable way to eventually build a pc for my nieces.

I can't recall which brand offhand, but I'm running a R7 360 2GB too. Kind of cool to see it can actually still play a bit if paired with a modern CPU. Mine is paired with a CPU of it's time, the FX-8350, so it's not a monster gaming PC for sure. ;-p Luckily for me I only play old games so it's just fine.

When you are not able to choose and you have to select based on the money I think this is a good choice. BTW the GTX 1050 OEM looks the same. i keep confusing them 😅

Cyberpunk has turned out to be such a great game in the end! As far as performance is concerned it runs on a lot lower spec hardware than I thought could be possible, by a lot!

I bought a used R7 360 in early jan 2020. Right before the pandemic for only $25 locally. It served me well for about 4 months. Played HUNDREDS of hours of GTAO on it at med-highish 1080p. Also played like 25 hours of vermintide 2 on it. Never had an issue with it. Once the u.s. govt sent out the first wave of stimulus checks i bought an eVGA 1650 Super for only $160 (this was like weeks before all gpus were sold out or doubled in price) I managed to sell my 360 for $40. Got a few hundred gaming hours out of it and turned a $10 profit lol.

At first i thought, that it would be impossible to use a card this slow, but then i remembered that my GPU is about as fast as this one 😅 I just don't notice because I've gotten used to playing older games.

Always cool to see these old cards hanging in there. Still irritated and dropped official support for them since modders who are doing it for free are managing just fine
