I gotta admit that Justin Chambers has surprised me, quite pleasantly. I didn't realize he had that depth when he was on Grey's Anatomy. This scene was mesmerizing as was the one in a previous episode where Brando is in the mirror and first conceptualizes himself as The Godfather.

Idk about that. Best film ever made about that world and the history behind it? Without a doubt. Best ever? There are a few films that could easily be in the top spot, but its all opinions in the end. Citizen Kane, Casablanca, It's a Wonderful Life, Wizard of Oz, Godfather, Vertigo, Shawshank Redemption, and the list goes on.

I thought it kind of worked better that they didn't do that. As you say we have the original film, and not trying to recreate it in the show helped suspend disbelief. (It just occurred to me that a fun exercise would be to watch the show's scenes where they're set up to film the movie scenes (Michael and Kay carrying Christmas presents, Sonny beating up Carlo, the car exploding, etc.), and then watch the corresponding movie scene.)

not sure who is who in this scene but if this is their first time together the explosion by the Sonny character is a bit unreal and unrestrained. Does not ring true. I understand the directors need to demonstrate similarities between actors and the characters they are playing but this is pushed onto the audience unless I'm missing something here.
@candaces.754713 күн бұрын
I totally agree. Everyone is saying this scene is so perfect but there are a few thuds that just don’t feel right to me. I also happen to think the actor playing Coppola is just downright bad in a lot of his scenes.
@raindogs10 күн бұрын
@@candaces.7547 You guys are nuts! Sonny (James Caan's character) was exactly like that. Have you guys even seen the movie? Did you watch the miniseries? Everything, EVERYTHING rings true in that scene. Al Ruddy has stated that the scene in questioned happened exactly the way that it is shown, without any prompting from him or Coppola, and it surprised him how everyone just fell into character without being asked. Perhaps, if you don't like Dan Fogler's impression of Coppola then you'd like watching him better in Balls of Fury. That seems more your speed.

Puzo gave the family the name Corleone. Coincidentally, Al Pacino’s grandparents came from Corleone, Sicily. He tried to keep it a secret, but finally talked about it on a talk show long after the Godfather movies. The Paramount big wigs didn’t even want Al Pacino in the movie, but Coppola fought for him
