@@hitmixhyepock9405 I have OJ elite 101’s on the majority of my park boards. Can’t say I haven’t had a pair flat spot. But also can say I’ve had a pair for 3 years never get flatspots. The thing I find with OJ’s is they just chunk. Spitfire classics are the king of flatspots. I can’t get through a sesh no matter where without flatspots on them.

sometimes its not even just that but how they grip on the top deck/and lip when doing lipslides...to pop/pivot back into the bowl....some wheels just DO some DONT....and same to nose/tail slides and smith/feeble lock ins...for me its all about the speed/grip ratio and the lock-in/edge profile forsure. ESP for wall to wall combos. To each their own let the rippers rip its what i love most about setups. GENUINELY just being like DANG you rock these and those and RIP on em. Knowing i couldnt or so on. Its like tuner cars or hotrodding. Just watching ppl operate their rigs from grom to old heads and the ranges of gear. Up until they start tripping and you can dish out a few TRY these brands/sizes

I've skated the Oj mini combo elite 101, no flat spots at park or street so it's likely an issue with the outer adhering to the inner core. 97x have a divot here and there but definitely seems like a happy medium and wonder of it uses a dual duro of some sort as well. Another great video, Thorne! I almost pulled the trigger on these because I was waiting for an Xformula that's 60mm+ I'm nursing torn meniscus and can't take much vibration. TBH, I also tried 87a OJ keyframes and they felt much harder than 93a Dragons.

It's that B-Scale fuckery. 87a Keyframes probably *are* about the same hardness as 93a Dragons. IDK if that applies to the OG formula Bones or not - my 95a Mini Cubics are less grippy than my 99a STFs were. Also they're fast as fuck those Mini-Cubics and I wish there were more similar wheels like that. STF's coulda been flawed or something tho

I got those wheels when they came out and FWIW I really like them. Probably one of my favorite wheel so far. I’m mostly on rough concrete, so can’t speak to the slippery point, but I do like their loud bark on slides, and they feel really fast. I noticeably push less and hold speed longer. First time I have OJs, and will probably buy them again.

Im assuming he got a flawed set, I only skate 103 Bones STF and 101 OJ Elites those are the only that I have never been able to flatspot. These ride like a soft wheel but slide on ground/ledges very very well. Before these came out I skated the Dragon wheels and hated them, people seem to be under the impression Dragons slide like hard wheel but they do not. Dragons are smooth and a relaxed ride but only really slide (real power slide) not a speed check on perfect smooth surfaces.

Dragons are awesome for everything that is not smooth skatepark, and they are still pretty good there. Andy Anderson currently has a new wheel in the making, 97A nano cubic, basically a harder dragon formula shaped like a freestyle wheel. kinda stoked, when they come out, I will probably try them and I am definetely hyped for your review already ^^

I think any OJ double durometer that is 95A on the inside, is actually not soft enough to really deliver on the promise. I do think any smooth surface skatepark will not handle 100a / 101a wheels very good actually. It's kinda of why the standard 99a exists. Maybe OJ Double durometer 99a/85a would be a better combo. The other thing is how wheel size _matters_ quite a lot on rougher grounds too. I think my 97A Seismic freestyle wheels that are like 55mm or so, are best for rougher grounds. Even compared to Bones Rough Riders 56mm. Those are kind of too soft for tricks IMHO.

only actual realworld/skate application this wheel struck me as....was a DITCH rig....cutty/choppy ditch spots bank 2 ledge spots...where you want 101a to generate all the speed you need bank to bank into that eventual trick...while also having good/harsh grip on legit CRETE(vs that smoothed out skatepark concrete)....and the 101a slide ability for those bank 2 ledge tricks. Otherwise i dislike 100a+ in most of my parks bc theyre typically too slick...same to if im at an indoor skatepark or non concrete surfaces/ramps. I like the "idea" ....but typically i ran cores back in the day for 101-104a inner cores....to ADD speed in the park/flow. With 99a or softer outer duro...for grip. Autobahns were the SHIIIIT back in my era of skating. Thin 50mms for ideal street/park/ledge tech skating. But many of us have grown out of that ERA. Been running SFW99 since the manderson wheel came out...and havent touched F4...bc back in the day Pre F4 blend Spitfire had the FABLED F1 blend...XD or would be "park blend"....also ran those as emburns Duel duro 104a innner 99a F1 outer.....F1=FLATSPOT MACHINES. Worst wheel blend of skate history. But hey at least now everyone makes the CONICAL/FULL shape. Lately im on some ghettochild conical fulls, and satori 101a conical full shapes. Not bad. One day i may try F4 but i swipe up my wheels on deal...and 40$ is something id rather spend/save towards swiss bones or if they ever made reds big balls ceramics. hell id rahter save that 40$ and throw them at something "NEW" like ace AF1 60s since ive never skated aces and ride my friends setups like its my own.

I suspect these were rushed out in response to Powell's dragon wheels, I thought NHS did something similar with the ricta speedbands way back. Shame they didn't work out as there's a demand for new types of wheel tech.
@burger1113
@burger1113 Жыл бұрын
Yeah i gotta say companies other than spitfire and bones don't have the tech to make really good wheels... Even the OJ 95a nomads by itself aren't that soft, so putting a hard urethane layer on top is obviously not going to make that soft of a ride feel. That makes me think... Maybe if powell made a wheel that is 93a or even softer on the contact patch area, but 100a on the SIDEWALLS, then it would ride soft, slide well, and still won't stick when doing pinch tricks!

OJ Insane-A-Thane were really nice wheels IMO - do they still sell those? I also have a set that are just labelled "OJ III 101a" - and they're a very similar wheel to Spitfire Bigheads/Classics, but a bit better than those.

I am in Philly area and minus some parks or plazas you pretty much when skating around spot to spot or just cruising are mainly on rough grounds, train tracks, dodging potholes and etc. Been riding the OJ Nora V pro model wheels that are from 2-3 years ago and they still are holding up really well. Minus losing size they don't got flat spots still and no chips. Personally I think the whole hybrid wheels like these or Dragons are not worth it. Rather just get the good regular OJ's.

I think you're being a little dramatic. 101 is always going yo be slippery in a Dusty indoor park. They were $60 and you can't take your mom out to dinner for $60. I agree they kinda feel like a 97a but 97a isn't going to slide like the double durometer. Great wheel

So you say the wheel skate feel like a 97, so I don’t really understand why you are saying they don’t work? Do you expect them to skate like a 95 or 90? a 101 that feels less chattery is a win in my book. I think you’re being dramatic.

They don't work because OJ claims the wheels combine the benefits of a soft and hard wheel, but they don't perform as advertised. Explained at 12:57 I would've been more forgiving to these wheels if they were marketed differently as explained in the next chapter. I don't believe I'm being dramatic by holding the product to the expectations it claims.

XD as someone whos tried a few different Spitfire CORE blends and "designs" XD bc im that guy that loves trying stuff out just for teh HOOT of it all. F man....spitfire/dlx was really fucking aroudn with those....teh harder outer duro wouldnt last for shit....and the F1 blends flat spot after 1 blunt/nose slide in transition. Ive never felt so cheated by a "core skate brand" that since ive yet to touch F4....and i stan MANDERSON shape 99a SFW wheels. So now i just ride conical full shape anywhere i can get it for 20$ or less. Hell even pig is making conical full...and i grew up in the "you gotta get the flip sidecut" wheel era LMFAO....that ran PIG asymmetrical GUTTERCUTS. Still wish i had some FRESH guttercuts for a quiver setup from time to time NGL

nah man when you go to that shop you gotta hit the bargain bin deals...15$ conical full ghettoschild and satori 101a conical fulls for 15$....XD 6 ball rush bearings 10$. Id never have a solid quiver w.o those deals. I usually buy my decks/trucks at my local which is like the best shop there is...socal skateshop. But when i need quiver gear like wheels/bearings....zumiez has the bargains and terrible management buying up their overhead...which NEVER gets MOVED XD. If you gon buy nice "things" like bones wheels F4 spitfires swiss bones etc hollow trucks XD kinda stuff...best get it from your local to generate some income for the core/shops...otherwise ill move some product through zumiez if i know theyre selling it at a loss.

never rode ojs other than 87a keyframes for a cruiser...they got a pretty flooded team too. Just that "appeal" of their team being so sick made me wonder if theyre just riding fresh/product....vs the product well eventually have breaking down/flat spotting etc. Keyframes were "chill" but the ricta clouds are honestly more ideal for "tricks" and actual skating with a softer wheel IMO i was even able to do nose/tail slides with the clouds. Ive never rode F4 Myself just classic 99a spitfire SFW shape....or nothing....on ghettochild and satori conical fulls RN...IDK spending 40$ for some Trendy spitfires when most posers are rocking the F4s these days with their indy/hockey setup thats un scratched and always Bran spankin new...is something i didnt wanna F with. Plus i rode gold goons/hubba/autobahns back in the day, BC my experience with Spitfire Duel duro options were MEH at best...as a benchmark for "what happens" when spitfire tries....to break their own mold of 99a...=trash just like their F1 blend.
