The Oklahoma City Thunder dominated the Dallas Mavericks in game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals, and we got to see the OKC Thunder defense in action against one of the best offensive teams in the NBA.

Honestly this has been the blueprint to beat the Mavs in playoffs for Lukas entire time there. High pick and roll with 3 guys standing around every possession just doesn't work against very good teams. Kyrie is just a worse version of Jalen Brunson at this point in his career who can't really play off the ball. OKC is just a better team and they have been all year.

Yes, but``` any team would play zone against the mavs, every single coach in the whole basketball world would do so, the mavs are built in a very specific way, that all their disadvantages on offense end would be exploited by zone defense. And unlike the clippers, thunders don't have to play harden who refuse to run zone in his whole career.

A healthy Luka would cut that Zone defense up because that's what good offensive players do..An injured Luka and the fact that mavs role players are missing a lot of these 3s is just making it look unbeatable..Okc give up a lot of corner 3s so all it takes is good shooting team..I think the Heat play way better zone defense without giving up as many open 3s as OKC.

Everybody knows zone defense isn’t good against a good shooting team, it’s more of an indictment on the mavs shooting. OKC basically forcing the role players to win the game and they won’t be able to

they are doing that on purpose LMAO. the whole point of this defense is lock down Luka and Kryie to force role players to shoot (which all them are worse shooters than OKC’s role players). wide open looks for mid shooters is the entire gameplan. luka and kyrie CARRY the team every single game and without them… its a L

It’s crazy how much you missed the point of this video and obviously don’t watch the Thunder lmao. The Thunder are only playing a zone against the mavs because the Mavs literally cannot convert outside shots. THJ is shooting like 25% from three and hes the BEST option outside of Luka or Kyrie. The Thunder don't usually play a zone lmfao. They are usually a switch everything defense.

I'd say that injured Luka and Maxi being out are the actual digs at the defense. They're leaving bad 3pt shooters open for a reason lol. Same as mavs punished the clippers for playing bad shooters alot. However OKC had far fewer non shooters in their rotation/more options making that harder for Dallas to return that favor as well. With that said I expect Dallas to make adjustments and come back strong. Still anyone's series. Luka and Kyrie are that good and their size is still an issue. This comes from a reasonable thunder fan lol.
