In this video I will be sharing some hand cutting tools. Why I think it's good to practice hand cutting circles as a mobile rig welder. But if you do need to cut lots of circles you can find the circle burner in our online store at arosswelding.com

I will also be sharing some information about custom hanging a gate on a set of corrals on the farm. We cut out an existing brace and in the video we will be hanging a gate in place of the brace. But our gate hinges have to be modified. Thanks for stopping by!

The great man that taught me welding and torch work 45 years ago always stressed that to do either well, you had to be “COMfortable”! “If you’re not COMfortable, you can’t do good work!”! He was correct!

Austin, today I packed the smoky and spattering Flux core welding machine in the storage trailer and packed my 75 amp lightweight inverter stick welding machine in with the weld gear today. Man I forgot how much I enjoyed using it rather than a wire feed machine.

I hope one day I can understand terminology of welding and know what to do. I start school January and I’m hella nervous. Never done any trade and didn’t really grow up around tools and stuff and I hope I can do this.

School will teach you alot on the technical stuff ,when you get out on the job in the field try to work with as many other welders as you can and pick there styles of welding and use a little of everyone's technique and develop your own , good luck to you, I'm a retired ASME certified welder since 1976 working in maintenance in power plants. You'll ether like it or not

Clean tip is key as well as rate of travel. Travel can be judged by the sound that you hear . It should almost buzz you can hear it as Austin cuts . If you're right handed left hand support of the right hand .The left hand supported on something solid at the elbow . Once you get good at it the cuts can look nearly machine cut . Good cuts make for less clean up . Good vid Austin

VERY impressive free-hand cutting here. Yes, clean tip, right sized tip, pre-heating and travel speed mean a lot but you sir have a steady hand! Thanks for sharing this. Oh, and great idea for the offset hinge mount. A little “two-step” music in the background would’ve sufficed 😄

Preheating before cutting, never heard. But although I've been welding for about 45 years, I've just a couple of time cuts.

Ross: Two things. ONE: What is your favorite coffee? (My dad, a sailor, told me, "son their ain't no bad coffee- the worst cup of coffee I ever had was the best I ever had" LOL TWO: I want to thank you. I have essential tremors, which you've probably seen in lots of people over 55. My fingers, and sometimes my entire hand shakes (I can't fill my coffee mug/cup or it will slosh over the side). Also I have trouble writing and working on small things in the woodshop. I've watched all of your videos and noticed how you brace you torch hand with your other hand of forearm. SO, I tried that and I can write better, and do not have near as much trouble working on small wood projects. THANK YOU I enjoy your videos, and I've never touched a welder/torch.

You have impressed me with your hot-wrench skills every time you cut. Although I have an O/A rig (and cutting torch), I've mostly used it for brazing of thinwall 4130 (with brass and silver) and also I'm out of acetylene. I reckon I'll get it filled when I go fetch some Argon--as I just bought a TIG machine and a plasma cutter. I realize you don't use a plasma cutter mobile because it requires a compressor, but wonder if you have any experience with plasma cutting and might compare it to O/A cutting, which I've done a bit of. I will likely be doing more of everything metal when I get the new gear in place (I don't have a metal shop presently-I'll be building one). I have learned to use guides for cutting any time it's feasible-regardless of heat source. What says Mr. Ross?

Boy howdy those Jack stands are just handy as all get out I use them for everything I’m surprised it ain’t holding up the kitchen table at this point and that’s probably only because mrs B won’t hear of it lol I don’t argue about kitchen affairs

Do your shoes catch slag from the torch. I always wear smooth toes when welding or cutting.

Can you do something about cutting thin material? When I cut 1/8 in. I use a 000 tip but I still get allot of backfill and slag buildup. I think my regs are set at 25 o2 and 6 acet. I am not sure if I need to turn the gas down or what I am doing wrong on thin material.

You should consider drinking tea on the job site. Instead of handling the hot metal you just cut, grab a cup a tea and take a breather so the metal cools down! No more toasty fingers!
