The Old Observatory | Large Format Photography on location

To become a true film photographer, at some point you have to photograph an abandoned building. It's a rite of passage you cannot escape. I've never really done that, until now! In today's video I forgo my usual landscape photography, and try and become a true film photographer!
In all honesty, I'm just curious about this building. I mean a private build observatory, is just cool. I've wanted to visit the place before, but never got around to it. But finnaly I did. In my bag I packed my "new" Linhof Trchnika V, to capture this building on some 4x5 large format goodies. I also packed my Contac G1 and snapped some 35mm photos as well..

Loving your format - well presented and interesting. Maybe try a 139 instead of the G1 - it's actually smaller (slightly) and a tenth of the cost! I have a soft spot for the 139, and the RTSII for that matter.

Thanks, I appreciate the support. The 139 and RTS was on my radar before buying the G1, they look like great cameras! I might pick one up in the future. For now I'm trying to stop buying new cameras, I have enough! (He said while browsing for a Leica monochrome ;) )

Yes, your movements were the correct way of doing it when you don't have enough front rise. 😊

Love the way the photos turned out! You've got me all motivated to go out and shoot 4x5 again! Also, which film stock were you using in the G1? Your tones look similar to what I get with Kodak Double-X! Thanks for the video!

Thanks! Hope you get out with the 4x5, it's a nice way of shooting. Fompan 200 in the G1, pushed one stop. Developed in t-max for 9 min (instead of 6,5 min). Even though Foma says you don't need to, I get better results that way.

@@O.Persson Thanks for the quick reply! Love the way they turned out! I think I'm going to try to shoot a few portraits this weekend. I have a couple of film holders that have light leaks, I've now labelled both sides of each and I'll run some tests to get rid of the bad ones haha.
