Keep in mind that the main purpose of these videos is to help folks learn harmony parts to hymns and not to sound perfect. These recordings will sound a touch raw for a few reasons; I am not a trained singer, I am using very simple recording hardware, my recording 'studio' is a couple of spare mattresses set on end to eliminate unwanted sound reverberations.
If you enjoy the way that these hymns are sang and want to experience them in person, stop by just about any church of Christ and they'll likely be singing them the same way. Without instruments.
My recording process:
-Record each part on a Rode NT1-A to a Zoom H4 recorder
-Some pitch correction in Melodyne
-Mix in Mixcraft 6
-Combine audio and sheet music in Corel VideoStudio X7
-Music is typeset in Finale 2012 by me or borrowed from PDHymns.com

I think we should recognize that different people can glorify God with different instruments, like their voice or a musical instrument. Or both! :) I loved learning to sing and singing with others, and playing with other people in an orchestra. Playing piano at church was a wonderful thing to do too! I thank God for allowing me to learn.

Absolutely. It's unmatched by any other isntrument. As much as I love a piano, it lacks the vocal range of a human and must use specific notes whereas we can create any sound in our range. Not just an instrument is our vocal cords; this it is, but also a means of communication to one another.

“To pardon and sanctify *ME*...”. Don’t forget salvation is personal folks. Jesus went to that cross for YOU! I am firmly convinced that he would have done so if there were only one person who needed saving. I believe overall Biblical principles bear that out. I grew up in a congregation where the worship music was a capella. I miss it. I really don't understand why congregations today have gone to amplified rock bands and loud loud loud !

The Scriptures never authorized the usage of musical instruments in worship. Find one. I can guarantee you find nothing. Note: Do not quote from the Old Testament.

With tears flowing, I am comforted by this A Capella rendition of an all time favorite hymn. Christ's appointment with old rugged cross assures me that my husband's last breath on earth a year ago was his first breath in heaven.

Im so glad He saw me in my sins, and still suffered for our remission of sins. Went to Old Dominion University ,majored In Public Administration but fainted, so God in my suffering you are still God. I can offer overcoming testimony that the blood of Jesus still have miraculous powers. i sang with Sweet Adelines for 15 years. that's the women's conterpart iof men's barbershop a capella singing.

So sorry. The men singing "a capella" (with no instrumental background) reminded me of the men's barbershop organization (SPEBSQA), and the women's version of men singing 4-part unaccompanied music is the organization called Sweet Adelines.

I've seen those shaped notes before, but never learned how they work exactly. I have a hard time reading music that has them because I'm unsure if I see a note on a space or a line. The video maker sings all those notes correctly though. Good job!

Each note is a solfege syllable. Triangles are do, semi circle re, diamond mi, right triangle fa, oval so, square la, ball diamond looking shape ti or "si".

this hymn is not one we hear a lot in Catholic land. It's lovely, and a companion to a hymn I fell in love with this past Holy Week called "My Song is Love Unknown". Mr. Bowman, do you have "Love Unknown" in your hymnal?

Glad you enjoyed the original rhythms. While I don't use 'auto-tune', I do use some pitch correction to make up for my lack of singing ability. And as I progress over time, I try to use that less and less.
