Just 1-3 lbs! Plenty to start. And I’m in decent shape, healthy, and exercise regularly. But I don’t have much arm strength at all and have weak shoulders (had a surgery on one). Thanks for the tip.

Starting at about 1.5-2 lbs with a glass bottle filled with water. It felt easy at first, but once I got to 20 reps was hard!

One thing I appreciate about you besides your educating me about what I can do to improve myself, is that your videos are not all 10.2 minutes long. I know youtubers make more when their videos are over 10 minutes. You get to the point. Thank you. I hope you become very successful!

And despite that they contain the "why", and this combination is perfect for viewers, although not necessarily from the monetary perspective (something with YT monetisation and 10m mark) Explanation: afaik multiple behavioural studies proved that to maximise the amount of people from a given group to actually follow and stick to the advice you have to give people a reason, however not necessarily *the* reason, that is lengthy explanations containing nuance and requiring higher order thinking to understand are to be avoided (the mental effort required makes us turn that off, ofc those are broad strokes and there are individuals with vastly different tendencies)

I really like it that you tailor your exercises for the more senior persons too. Muscle weakness can creep up on us so quickly almost without even noticing to begin with. It makes so much sense to constantly keep our muscles toned ~ after all, that's all that's keeping us from collapsing into a heap on the floor!

Everything you said in this video has been true for me! I started with 3 lb dumbbells and now I’m up to 8 lbs. interesting how strengthening my back and shoulders made my upper traps feel less tight, they were really weak. Good stuff!

Oh yeah. I had two experiences around the age of 40 that impressed upon me how crucial it is to maintain the shoulders. First of all I developed a partial tear of my rotator cuff by overtraining on bench/dumbbell presses and not doing enough of the opposite exercises like rows. I was prescribed a good set of physical therapy exercises by my doctor and even without any guided therapy I was able to essentially reverse that. A year later I had a bad accident while riding my mountain bike and hurt the same rotator much worse, but was again able to dramatically improve the condition via PT and never required surgery. The joint will probably never be back to exactly 100%, but with continued therapy I basically keep it fully functional. I keep a kettlebell in my car and I do rows and overhead presses sometimes to kill time if I'm waiting somewhere.

@@Uprighthealth I am 68 yrs old, still working, 30+ years at a desk. Trying to get in shape, and it’s so hard! Where do you begin when you’re starting from scratch? I started out concentrating on cardio based on heart cath results. Now I want to build strength and flexibility to make my older years safer and easier to remain independent for as long as I can. I don’t know what to work on first and what the progression should be.

I hurt my shoulder by repeatedly pulling down a heavy hatchback door on a station-wagon for a period of years, with one arm, while holding groceries with the other arm. How do you know when exercising it would be harmful rather then helpful. My shoulder hurts all the time , but I’d hate to have to have surgery.

@jsedge2473
@jsedge2473 2 жыл бұрын
@Lin Hisit It's actually normal to do a row using both arms. Look up a barbell row (you can use 2 dumbbells at the same time in this manner). Doing single armed and leaning on something just provides more stability, it's the "easier" version of the actual exercise. I personally like using both arms better.. I get a better feeling in my back. But if someone is just starting working out or they have mobility issues, leaning on something and doing 1 arm at a time may be the better option.

It took you over 2 minutes to actually begin to even start demonstrating the first exercise. You pack to much talk in and never shut up. You look uncomfortable as though you are in a rush. This video could be tons better if it was more paced and you talked about 70 per cent less. Also the fact you are wearing a dark top obscures some of the movements. Verdict Very unprofessional.
