Gravity Falls is one of the best shows ever made, and its impact on cartoons cannot be understated. But like every other show, it's not perfect, and this is one of my complaints with it.

So I've seen a few counter-arguments for why Anne's death wasn't as impactful as Stanley's memory wipe. You can choose to believe it has less impact, but here are my rebuttals to the 3 common arguments I've seen: 1) Anne's ruined her last moment before death by giving a joke that has no meaning as her last words. While it sounds out of place on the surface, it actually goes along with Anne's character. She's a fun person who wants to make people happy, and she doesn't want the last thing she sees is a sad Sprig. So by lightening the mood, she can seeing Sprig smiling. It's also why as she turned to leaves, she smiles. 2) The long term consequences of Anne's sacrifice were not acknowledged. While it's somewhat true for most of the characters. Anne definitely acknowledges it, hence her line about feeling existential dread later on. While we don't see it, it's implied in the 10 years time skip. Also, the audience definitely acknowledge the long term consequences which is enough to make the scene more emotionally impactful than Stan's sacrifice. 3) The existence of Domino III and it giving Anne a resurrection felt too convenient like Stan's memory wipe. This is the strongest counterpoint, and I actually kind of agree to it. But at least Domino III's existence serves another purpose to the story which is to explain the existence of the stones of the calamity box. Also, Domino III chose to resurrect Anne because of what Anne did and how she convinced it to send her back. So her resurrection felt less of a cop out because at least it's earned. Its not like Stan's memory wipe where his memories come back with no explanation besides "that's how it is according to Journal #3." Edit: there's a 4th argument people keep telling me which is that Stan's recovery from the memory wipe is already hinted at from McGucket who is able to recover parts of his memory back. I'm aware that recovering memory has always been possible. But I still find Stan's recover way too quick. Yes, there is a time skip in between the initial memory wipe and Dipper and Mabel's birthday. That still doesn't really change how it still feels too quick. In my opinion, it would have been better if Stan still had some memory issues by the time Dipper and Mabel leave Gravity Falls, but remembers enough to say goodbye to them before they leave. It would have heighten the emotional scene at the end of episode. So I get that not everyone will agree with me and I'm aware some people are bothered by Anne's death in the same way as I'm bothered by Stan's memory wipe. I acknowledge that Anne's death and resurrection has its flaws like the ambiguity of whether the clone Anne is the real Anne. But I just want to make the point from this video fleshed out as possible because I want to let people know that Gravity Falls is not above criticism, and it's more than fine to admit when a different show, whether it is a successor or not, is better. I've seen so many people give so much praise to GF and while it does deserve praise, we tend to ignore the flaws because of it. The same goes for Amphibia too. It's not above criticism, and I have my own criticisms of it too. Overall, we should be open to admit that you believe one is better than the other because you actually believe it, not because the masses agree with that opinion as if it is fact. Thanks for reading my TED Talk lol

I guess I'm annoying but welp, time to counter counter argument: 1- I can't conceive people find unbelievable Anne cracking a joke in her last moments, like, that's very in character (agreed here) 2- Hard disagree. A one joke line isn't enough to justify all this. It doesn't really imply anything on its own and this being the only thing touching the clone thing makes it bland and incomplete (or at least Hella rushed, like Stan's sacrifice). And I don't think what the community deemed this moment matters, as we are gonna take every drop of content and squash it till the end and the moment, as I've said, doesn't hold together on its own. 3- Kinda agree here. The guardian or whatever is convenient and out of nowhere, but it makes some sense lore wise and their help still feels earned, so it's not that bad overall

@@MarngelRambles nono that's not the point, I actually agree in some stuff. I agree that Gravity Falls could have had an even better finale if it had more time to develop that side of Stan's sacrifice, but I see similar things going on on Amphibia's. Another thing I think Amphibia did better than Gravity Falls is Marcy and Mabel’s fantasy, even though Mabel land has more screen time than Marcy’s fantasy, I still like Marcy’s version more, because she doesn’t need anyone to convince her to wake up, she’s able to realize the harsh reality by herself, and the reason she’s able to do all of that is because she has faced her consequences and has learned her lesson, and she knows it very well that even if she rejects the fantasy, she still has to move away with her family, but she still does the right thing, and the part when Marcy was left alone in the dark, but the photo of Anne, Sasha and Marcy still shined brightly show that even though reality can be dark, but there are still things that can give you hope and comfort….

This is a good point as with Amphibia, it gives a much better lesson of growing up being much harder and tricker to control, and that as well you're not really able to go back and so are forced to keep moving forwards. Whereas in GF, it is completely open to more shenanigans and hijinks being able to happen as opposed to the 5 year later scene in Amphibia showing the actual long-term view of growing up.

Let us not forget that True Colors and All In were much better at following through with the 13th birthday conflict from Dipper and Mabel versus the Future and Weirdmageddon Part 2: Escape From Reality. Mabel ruins Dipper's 13th birthday for Wendy, Marcy ruins Anne's 13th birthday for Sasha, and in Twelve Forever, Reggie ruins Todd's birthday for Esther.

While this video does make good points about both Gravity Falls and Amphibia, I do partially and respectfully disagree on some points regarding Stan's sacrifice and Anne's sacrifice. When it comes to Stan's sacrifice, it was partially set up by what happened to Fiddleford Mcgucket. Fiddleford used the memory gun on himself so many times that his mind was permanently damaged, yet by seeing his true memories, he did recover somewhat overtime. That sets up Stan's recovery from his sacrifice, and it was a sacrifice. If Stan hadn't done the memory wipe, Bill Cipher wouldn't have been defeated. Stan may have recovered quickly, but it doesn't take away from his sacrifice, and how Stanley Pines, the twin that people thought wouldn't amount to anything, ultimately saved Gravity Falls and the entire world. Also, there are hints and theories that Bill Cipher survived, with some thinking he's somewhere in Stan's mind, while others think he may be in another form. Like you said, that's a whole other topic. As for Anne's sacrifice, I agree that it was more impactful, but I don't agree that the Anne Boonchuy that came back is NOT the same Anne Boonchuy that we've been with the entire series of Amphibia. The series and Matt Braly himself left it too ambiguous and up to interpretation. Plus, the wrong shoe on the wrong foot reason isn't enough of an argument to suggest that the resurrected Anne Boonchuy is a different entity entirely. Even the guardian deity said it was sending Anne "back" to the land of the living, implying that Anne is still the original. It can be argued that Anne was resurrected in a different body. There are existential implications for Anne's resurrection which is a consequence of Anne dying, but I personally think that the Anne that came back is the same Anne Boonchuy from the start of the series.

I always thought the one thing Amphibia did better than Gravity Falls was foreshadowing, particularly of the subtle variety. Gravity Falls was so good at foreshadowing, it spawned an entire internet community dedicated to Discovering, Decoding, and Protecting its secrets. But the thing is, even though you didn't know *what* was being foreshadowed, it was usually pretty obvious what was and was not foreshadowing. Amphibia's foreshadowing is much different. Sure, it had mysterious books and writings, but much of it was things you would never even notice was there until it came back later. Examples: - Loggle's buff statue of himself in Cane Crazy foreshadowed his actual appearance in season 3 - Anne's drugged-up line about Domino being "the alpha and omega, an interdimensional being beyond all time and space" came true when The Guardian changed its appearance to that of the cat - The poster behind Anne's bed is the location where she met The Guardian - When Anne talks to her parents at the beginning of The New Normal, Polly is hiding in a trash can which also contains Teddy Lovekins (the animatronic teddy bear that Anne tries to use to replace Frobo, and that Polly subsequently steals the batteries from in order to power Frobo) - In True Colors, Polly has an itchy butt all day, up until she grows her legs at the end of the episode.

@dragonstormx Жыл бұрын
In defense of Stan getting his memory back McGucket also got his memories back and that was after using the memory gun on himself so many times he turned into a shell of his former self. The main thing I take Amphibia doing better than Gravity Falls is Marcy as a character compared to Mabel. Marcy falls under the similar role of the hyperactive funny girl, but Mabel had a large number of moments where she is downright selfish and never gets called out for it. Dipper gets punished for pursuing his obsessions and chasing girls, Mabel on the other hand gets to chase after as many boys as she wants with no consequences while Dipper often has to make sacrifices for her sake. Sock Opera even pointed this out, but Mabel didn't make much of a sacrifice she decided her boy of the week wasn't worth it. I have nothing against Mabel being tricked by Bill in Weirdmaggedon. She didn't realize it was Bill at first we've seen Mabel tricked by people less crafty than him. The issue is how it's resolved. Mabel is convinced to give up the paradise Bill gave her not because it's wrong to hide away while the rest of the world suffers, but because Dipper promises to always be with her. Marcy in contrast is gradually set up to have a dark side, which in True Colors comes to light with the reveal she intentionally got the Calamity Trio sent to Amphibia and he had been planning to make sure they NEVER returned home so she could keep exploring new worlds. All to ensure she wouldn't be separated from her friends when her parents moved away. When possessed by the Core, Marcy is confronted with the same temptation as Mabel; hide in a reality where she can have whatever she wants. In particular she is given copies of Anne and Sasha who will obey her every desire. Unlike when Mabel was presented with a copy of Dipper in Bill's prison who obeys her, Marcy rejects the whole thing. She realizes that the real Anne and Sasha would want to do whatever she wants to do, with the copies being rightly presented as creepy. Mabel was presented with a reality she could hide away in, and was convinced to give it up with the promise Dipper would stay with her. Marcy was presented with the same offer, and she accepted that it would be wrong to hide away in it even if she had to deal with being separated from Anne and Sasha. It's like Marcy was written in response to the criticisms of Mabel. She's criticized by characters and the narrative for her selfishness, while Mabel got an episode that said she was above criticism.

People keep saying that what happened with Stan after fighting Bill made no sense...but I have something that challenges that idea. I recall a near similar situation happening in Futurama, a long time ago. In the episode Fun on a Bun; Leela goes about getting rid of her memories of Fry, after believing she ate him by accident. But the woman working the memory machine explained that all those memories would still BE there, she would just be cutting the mental links between them. It took a kiss with Fry to re-establish those connections and thus, I believe the same thing happened with Stan. Waddles licking him, Mabel reading from her scrapbook, Soos being...well, Soos; all of this helped bring back Stan's memories. At least, that's how I choose to look at the end

@@agustinberto6138 it’s logical for him to recover from the memory wipe, but having it be shown so quickly felt way too convenient that it cheapened the initial sacrifice. I’m still convinced that only her original body died, while her consciousness survived and transferred in a new body, like a file in a computer is transferred in a USB card and vice versa. Or Baymax’s motherchip being put in a new robotic body, after he secretly removed it from its original body. Or SPOILER ALERT… Roxas, Namine and Xion having their hearts (and in Xion’s case, her memories) put into new vessels in Kingdom Hearts 3, so they would come back without injuring their procreators (Sora and Kairi) It’s a case of “New Body, Old Soul”. Memories returning was set up in GF. We saw McGucket regain his memories as well. You might say that it was because he saw the memory tube play, but thats no different than reading the memories in Mable's Scrapbook. It's not like McGucket was hit with a "memory restoring ray" that used the tube to give him the memories back directly. Alex also said that the memory restoration process would take longer than what they showed in the show. That's why there's a time skip to their birthday, and he implied that that work would still be done after that to get Stanely back.

@@RedDeadDepressionist First of all, many lgbt+ people recognize themselves in cryptids, the "freaks", the creatures that society considers different and "wrong". In their characteristics and particularities, they are unique and special. I don't want to give you any spoilers, but in the finale they will all unite together against a common opponent. Then there are the canonical queer characters, like the two cops (Blubbs and Durland…? I don't remember) and I think Wendy Corduroy was confirmed bisexual by the author. Then there's Dipper, constantly teased for his lack of virility, who according to some head canon could be FTM transgender. Mabel, obsessed with having a boyfriend, but then not feeling comfortable with her when she gets one, could be an example of the pressures society and culture place on queers. And other. I hope I've been helpful to you, and maybe made you want to watch Gravity Falls.

There as something an artist pointed out about the epilogue for Amphibia that I agree with. See it's around the anniversary of the invasion and Sasha and Marcy are celebrating Anne's birthday with her, except it wasn't her birthday, at least not the Anne we knew for most of the series. The timelines did not line up there and there was no mention of it so it would be weird for that little fact to be brought up in the epilogue unless they acknowledge the Anne they are meeting is different since the original Anne died and the new Anne was born.

Idk for me I feel like measuring quality based on how much "edgy" stuff did (for lack of a better term) pretty shallow. Like "wow this one had a rEaL dEaTh and the character cAnNoT sEe eAcH oThEr eVeR aGaIN, darker and edgier implications so it's better". That just doesn't make sense to me as a point. Don't get me wrong I like amphibia a lot, and I am an advent defender of it to a lot of people who dismiss it for equally dumb reasons, but I cannot call it better than gravity falls just because it had a technically heavier ending. The weight of a show's ending should be propositional to the setting. Gravity falls, while mysterious, has a fairly grounded setting centering around mainly a few key locations that are constantly changing as they are being "intruded" by the story. Amphibia setting has a grander scope by nature, being set in a different world, we naturally venture outward to explore it instead. The endings of each reflect the weight of the setting as they should. Gravity falls frames this as the end of summer, it's the end of an adventure and the beginning of the new year, but it doesn't exude a totality because a grounded setting implies that this isn't supposed to big of a "stretch". Amphibia's ending is framed as the the end of an era, the past is over, just a memory. This makes sense with the grander setting as having the grander setting persist makes it lose its grandure. Both shows have good endings for what they are aiming for. For me the deciding factor really is just that gravity falls is frequently a lot funnier and rewatchable imo, which is actually helped in part by the more grounded setting. I definitely think both are better than the owl house though (here goes I'm ready to get ridiculed). Not going to touch in why here cause this comment is long enough as is and it's not the subject of the video, but if someone asks maybe I will.

Amphibia's sacrifice with anne was similar to that of ninjago's sacrifice. Specifically zane's sacrifice. I still get emotional to this day about the finale to this day. Both had an important character die due to a strong power to defeat a big evil. Both get a new body however its different from their old body. And lastly. Both left behind something that is reminiscent of their passing. The only differences is that zane was found by his friends later. Meanwhile anne's was found by her friends immediately after revival. Zane's body is immediately different from view yet you can stil tell its him. Meanwhile anne was nearly the same as before just only different footwear. And lastly. How they were reborn was different

I feel like there like there are some other problems with Anne’s death like that she comes back to life to find out she will become a god and live forever but Stan’s sacrifice has problems to but in my opinion it does make sense because it was right after and it took a week and I know you talked about this McGuckic got like half of his memories back from like a minute of watching his video logs and it was 30 years after he lost his memory while for Stan it took him a week to get his memories and what they called scrap book therapy and Stanford telling him of his child memories and they should have said this but it was implied that since he started to get his memories back before an hour made them come back faster I wish they just had more time to explain how he got his memories back.

Ehh, I feel like Anne's death gives us more questions than answers. But with gravity falls, it makes sense. But it could have been done better. With amphibia, domino ||| comes out of nowhere, and conveniently erases the consequences of Anne's sacrifice. So the same thing gravity falls did, but worse. And Anne not really being Anne is still debatable, it's something nobody truly knows. But it's more likely that Anne is still Anne, but just in a different body. And it happens very quickly, so there's no time to truly get emotional over it, unlike with Stan getting his memory wiped. And it's not like we haven't seen others getting their memories back after it got wiped, we saw that with McGucket. It just makes more sense than a god appearing out of nowhere, and making a copy of Anne. And in journal 3, it reveals that Stan didn't completely regain his memories, Ford had to show him clips of their childhood for Stan to completely regain his memories. Although, we should have seen that in the show. But there are some things that Amphibia did better, Marcy for example has the character arc that gravity falls tried to do with Mabel.

While I do agree that Amphibia has the superior finale, (as well as just being a superior show in general) I disagree about Stan's sacrifice not being a sacrifice. While it's true that his memory was revived a bit easily, Stan, nor any of the characters, knew that Stan was going to be able to even get his memories back! I think the fact that Stan was willing to sacrifice himself is the truly important thing here. It was assumed that Stan was, mentally, gone. But it just happened that Stan was able to get his memories back. Even if just with a scrapbook. I personally think that Stan's sacrifice was a real sacrifice. Because imo, sacrifice doesn't always mean losing something. I think it actually means your gaining something. You gain trust, respect, you've gained confidence to make such a brave act. I think sacrifice also means being willing to do what's right. So that's why I think Stan's sacrifice was truly a sacrifice. He did what was right, not knowing what would come of it. He knew he was going to lose his memories, true. But he didn't know that he would get to remember again. Stan did what he felt was right, and at the end of the day, isn't that truly what matters?

As much as I love amphibia I don't agree it's better than GF. First, those long term consequences for the sacrifice are not acknowledged other than by an untrascenting joke and is not given any sort of place in the narrative, which imo does make the undoing of the sacrifice as disappointing as GF unerasing was for u probably. Does this mean I think GF is perfect, or that Amphibia isn't better than it on some aspects? Absolutely not (for example, I consider Marcy's Arc to be a better executed Mabel arc) but I don't think the resolution to Anne's sacrifice is more satisfactory or better executed than Stanley's.

@Howlingcookie_Wolfz despite everything that you listed, she did the same. She did a selfish act in a moment of desperation which brought huge issues to everyone around her. Difference being, she never really was confronted or apologized by it. She was tricked too, sure, but so did Marcy (we see in the sneak peeks or her journal that she was manipulated by Andrias not to tell Anne and Sasha when she found them) but the latter faced the comquence of her actions and had to actually go through a character arc, which I'm afraid to say Mabel never completed
@agustinberto6138
@agustinberto6138 Жыл бұрын
@Howlingcookie_Wolfz that is not what facing the consequence of her actions is (first, cuz both siblings were struggling to escape it's not like he just picked Mabel). It means realising your mistake and decide to fix it and do better next time. We see her trying to stop Bill, but we don't see it's because she wants to fix her selfish actions, just because it's the apocalypse and has to be stopped. Marcy, on the other hand, regrets and apologised multiple times for her mistake. And when she was given a perfect world to stay forever, she rejected it. She realised it was doing the same mistake again and she wasn't going to do it. She grew, and she faced the reality. Mabel didn't (even worse, she KNEW it wasnt real but didn't care, and even even worse, she shits on Dipper once more with Dippy Fresh), until Dipper had to give up something YET AGAIN to make her willing to get away from Mabeland. Yes, she later says it's not really necessary but, imo, it isn't satisfactory way to solve her arc. She didn't own it and get better, she just...was there.

@Howlingcookie_Wolfz the difference being, Dipper got bitch slapped by life more times I can tell! Specially in Season 1. Mabel almost never had real consequences to her poor behaviour like dipper did (the only exception i can think of is Sock Opera) It's not that dipper was an angel, far from that, but he actually had to grow from his mistakes and flaws. With Mabel we never could complete that arc like we did with dipper, which is why I say Marcy has a similar but better arc to Mabel's, simply cuz one was concluded, the other not really

I admit, i never thought I'd find an opinion like this! It's nice to hear about such a different perspective and it made me smile to hear how much you cared about amphibia. The only reason i disagree with stan's memory recovery being too convenient is less of a technical one but an emotional one? It's because mabel throughout the ENTIRE show has been working endlessly on her own "journal", the scrapbook about this last childhood summer. She's shown working on it just as consistently as dipper working on the journal. Stanley always put family first so it was nice to see it wasn't an invention or mysterious phenomenon that helped him, but mabel's own way of putting family first. Mabel, who so desperately wanted to have a happy summer that would be worth remembering, was the one to help him because it was- it was a summer worth remembering to stanley.

Well… I actually think the opposite, I actually think Sasha’s arc is better, because her redemption arc is given more time. From how I see it, Sasha’s redemption arc began in "Barrel’s War Hammer”, when she faced the consequences of her actions for the second time. The first consequences is her fight with Anne, but she still refused to change, so she faced her consequences again, and we can see her doubts in “The Third Temple”, but she still didn’t change her ways until "True Colors" when she faced as many consequences as possible, first she lost her best friends, her plan is ruined, and Marcy gets hurt… I have to admit “Turning Point" which is the episode that Sasha get redeemed, is really short, but her redemption arc isn’t, even after that episode, she still has things to work out with Anne ("Commander Anne”). The finale of her redemption arc is actually in “All In” when she faced Darcy, I feel like it’s actually Sasha vs the past Sasha that was still a control freak, and that’s when her arc was completed, at least for me. It’s just my opinion. Pacifica’s arc is also great, and I like her ending, because she does face her consequences, but it just feels like a small arc, I think she needs more screen time.
@roo1014
@roo1014 Жыл бұрын
@@user-hr1mb8tx3b I DO get what makes her arc good and constructed, I didn't think it was terrible, I just felt it was . . . meh. (Again, MY PERSONAL OPINION) My biggest issue with Season 3 is the depth given to Sasha's character went from complex and interesting to underwhelmingly simplistic. S1 did a good job of quickly establishing her character flaws, S2 did a great job of exploring her character flaws, showing small areas of growth in places and setting up / foreshadowing her redemption arc. Then in S3 when her arc comes to full circle -- it kinda goes up in flames Admittedly, *Turning Point* was really good episode. I was expecting to see more of Sasha working with Wartwood, and putting in the effort and struggle to change herself along the way, but we don't. Instead we see her again next in *Commander Anne* after "she's already changed" and her and Anne instantly get along just fine again - like, WHAT!?!! I feel like they skipped an important part of her progression, and as a result it felt rushed and half-assed. Another nitpick I have is her arc was really in-your-face. There were so many times where Sasha blatantly said "I changed I changed I changed I'm a good person now blah blah blah" -- not a terrible way to express character growth, but a lazy and redundant one Lastly I didn't appreciate the way she was giving Marcy flack in *The Beginning of the End* . I'm not saying that she had no right to be angry at Marcy over what she did - but after a whole half a season of her excessively going on about second chances and making amends it does make her look incredibly hypocritical In conclusion, I thought Sasha's arc was pretty lame in terms of the criteria a certain character's redemption should meet. I think the effort and determination was there, but it wasn't executed too brilliantly. That's only my own opinion though, I'm always open to other people's opinions as long as they're backed up by evidence and constructive criticism

That is not the only thing Gravity Falls did wrong that Amphibia did right in the series finale! After Dipper and Mabel versus the Future and Escape From Reality got many criticisms from many current and former Gravity Falls fans in 2015, and still throughout 2016 when Gravity Falls ended, for ignoring giving Mabel any meaningful character development, and dancing around the entire problem of Dipper questioning if he should leave Mabel to be Ford's apprentice, Twelve Forever and Amphibia, to a much greater extent than Twelve, stepped in to fix that problem when they had a pivotal storyline about a character's 13th birthday, which was also a much greater focal point for the rest of the show than it was for Gravity Falls. Mabel Pines, Reggie Abbott and Marcy Wu were afraid of growing up and growing apart from their family and their friends, so they made a very bold move in order to force them to stay together, to ruin the 13th birthdays of Dipper Pines, Todd and Anne Boonchuy, which they were going to celebrate with their family and one of their closest friends: Wendy Corduroy, Esther Hopkins and Sasha Waybright. To make three long stories short: Gravity Falls started something it did not want to finish (which is why it can use a third-season revival in the next summer with the Pines twins back in Piedmont having other GF characters visit them), Twelve Forever taught us what could be done better to resolve that conflict between three characters, and Amphibia went above and beyond by making a whole show out of it. Both in the metaphorical sense that it made a much bigger version of that storyline than Twelve Forever originally had, and in the literal sense that the entire series was built around that conflict when Marcy was sad to hear the news about her family moving away on Anne's 13th birthday. That is why she got Anne and Sasha stuck with her in Amphibia, but we viewers to not get to know this until the end of Season 2.

I never quite understood this criticism about sacrifices. I get the point, but I think the thing that bothers me is that the character doing the sacrifice didn't KNOW that it was going to be undone. If they knew it would be a different matter, because if they knew then it wouldn't really be a sacrifice because they knew they could come back. But they didn't. Anne for example, she didn't know she was going to be able to come back, when she made her sacrifice she thought she was going to be gone for good. And though your right that it will have emotional implications for her in the future, that still doesn't change the fact that she got to come back and see her friends and family and live the rest of her life. I still consider her the same Anne. She may be a clone but she still has the same memories, consciousness, and emotions as Anne. She is still Anne in all the ways that matter, even if she technically has a different physical body. That aside, my logic can be applied the same to Stan. When he wiped his memory, he didn't know he was going to get it back. As far as he knew, he was giving it up forever. The meaning of the sacrifice, at least to me, doesn't come from the action. It comes from the fact that the character was willing to give up something important to them, from their knowledge forever, for the people they love. It seems silly to me to say that just because they were given the chance to come back, means their sacrifice was invalid. Because they didn't know that would be the case. I mean, it seems silly to say that they can't accept the offer to come back, of course they want to come back. They love the thing that they gave up, so if they had the chance to get it back of course they would. If anything, that just shows how amazing it was that they were willing to give it up in the first place. The sacrifice is still meaningful to me because of what the character meant behind it.

Character deaths and sacrifice is hard to get right in cartoons since characters often come back to life either right away or many episodes later. It would be interesting to look at Deaths in cartoons in general since Im not shore what ones fall under sacrifice and then do a topic on that. Okay so a few things I would like to say: 1. Stan’s sacrifice was not meaningless. He did sacrifice his memory to defeat Bill Cipher and that’s is a moment that I will always treasure. If you know what I mean. 2. It has been stated that Bill will return in another form. He could be a bird, a dog, a cat or even a human. It won’t necessarily be because Stan got his memory restored. 3. While a lot of people think that Anne is dead forever and she was replaced by a copy of herself, honestly I don’t believe it. It’s very possible that her soul ended up in this new body that the guardian made for her. So no weirdness there. 4. Both Gravity falls and Amphibia had great finales with the main character making a sacrifice so the villain could be defeated and everyone would be safe. 5. I honestly can’t find anything wrong with theses shows. They both started well and ended with a great finale. I have no doubt that The Owl house will give us a satisfying ending as well.

Stan's sacrifice never meant to be a real "sacrifice". Let me explain: in the start of the show Stan isn't such a "good guy", he isn't evil but still a bad guy. Later on you find out that he spent 30 years trying to save his brother, or In other words someone that cares about family but still - bad personally. Fast forward to "mazes, mazes and more mazes" (I have been watching at a different language so sorry if I translated the name or anyting else wrong) he apologized to his family, which marks for Stan's personality finally starts to change. And at the end of the show we see it finishes with him sacrificing himself for others, being a hero at the cost of his life and saying that the biggest mistake Bill has done was that he messed around with his family. The sacrifice meant to show Stan finally finishing to change into a good person and also after they win Bill Stan talks to soos like somting familiar... Want a clue before you guess? Weird jokes and helping soos achieving his dream... Stan realizes that soos sees him as the father he never had (heartwarming when you realize it too). And also Stan last auctions & sentences when Mabel and Dipper are leaving shows that he still trying to stay a little bit like the old Stan but because of what he has done his family knows his true self and also in the news when they say that Stan recovered his memories, he is mentioned as "hero". In amphibia Anne's sacrifice meant to just begin a sacrifice (also I am unsure if losing somting without noticing it counts as "paying a price" for your sacrifice) That's, sorry it took so long and thanks if you got here. PLEASE TELL ME YOUR OPINION ABOUT THIS

I believe both their sacrifices were not good. I say this because even if Anne’s body was destroyed she still lives a normal life and looks the same and everything, just like Stan. Comparing Anne after her body is destroyed and before, they are exactly identical, just like Stan when his memory was fully recovered. To me, these sacrifices are basically the same

_uM, AcTuaLly_ 🤓 Before Anne's death, she's always been missing her right shoe (while in amphibia ofcourse) but the 'copy' (from waking up on the floating island to leaving amphibia) is missing her left shoe. So technically they *aren't* exactly identical lol

Yeah, I'm going to get a lot of hate by saying this... But I thought Amphibia has a better execution over fear of leaving behind your friends or your family was a lot better than Gravity Falls (I hate the preultimate multi-part finale episode Dipper and Mabel vs. the Future and part 2 of Weirdmageddon with a passion).

I agree. However I personally thought that it was Anne, and the body was a clone but with her soul in it? I don’t know, but everyone’s theory’s on it is very interesting!

High key, this may be a hot take, but Marcy's scene in the Mindscape with Aldrich is basically a better executed version of Mabelland. Fight me.
